NeFeB anisotropy bonded magnet has proposed a new paradigm of weight reduction of small motors by replacing the conventional ferrite permanent magnets with its high magnetic property of 25 MGOe during last five years. It has also advanced by leaps and bounds in the field of motor industry for automobiles and electric power tools. And it has led a new innovation of fifty percent weight lightening compared to its current motors by correctly focusing on fuel performance improvement through weight lightening that automobile industry chased. There was, however, another price skyrocketing in 2011 after China had announced its export regulation in rare earth materials in July, 2010. And this price change has an extensive impact on the industries that consume rare earth magnets. This environmental change has caused technical challenge to improve the performance by using least amount of rare earth elements in NdFeB anisotropy bonded magnets, and led to make a new technical approach to a new applied field. In this article, we will show how each nation deals with this industrial issue, and introduce development trend and application of anisotropic NdFeB bonded magnets, so-called MAGFINE made by Aichi Steel Corp.

The DNA-binding protein from starved cells (DPS), originally identified as a DNA binding protein in Escherichia coli, is known to play an important role in DNA protection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the functional roles of DPS in E. coli against various kinds of external stresses by comparing the properties of wild-type E. coli cells and dps knockout mutant E. coli (${\Delta}dps$) cells. Under various stress conditions, we measured the cell growth of the wild-type E. coli and the dps knockout mutant E. coli (${\Delta}dps$) cells using a UV spectrophotometer. The growth rate of the cells was compared to investigate the functional roles of the DPS protein in E. coli. In comparison to the properties of the wild-type E. coli cells, the dps knockout mutant E. coli (${\Delta}dps$) cells showed highly sensitive phenotypes under various stress conditions, such as heat shock, acidic pH, nutrient deficiency, and different concentrations of reactive oxygen species (ROS), suggesting that DPS plays key roles in E. coli in combating diverse external stresses. The DPS DNA-binding protein in E. coli plays crucial roles in bacterial cell growth and in the protection of the cells from environmental stresses by tightly binding and preserving their DNA molecules.

The material properties of Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) were evaluated according to heat treatment conditions. The special focus was made on the color control of cedar wood by heat treatment. The difference of color between sapwood and heartwood could be reduced by heat treatment at a temperature above $170^{\circ}C$. Long heating time was more effective in reducing the difference. The Equilibrium Moisture Content (EMC) of heat-treated wood was as low as 50 percent. The result obviously indicates that heat-treated wood is more dimensionally stable in the change of moisture condition than the control. The heat-treated wood was also effective in increasing the durability against wood rotting fungi. However, more study is required to develop heat treatment as an environmentally-friendly technology for wood preservation without chemical. The mechanical properties of heat-treated wood showed relatively higher performance than the control in general. Meanwhile the dramatic decrease in impact bending stress due to the loss of ductility may limit uses of heat-treated wood in certain cases. There were no significant changes in microscopic structure which may cause changes in mechanical properties. Further study on the chemical analysis of heat-treated wood is needed to scrutinize the causes of changes of material properties.

We studied a bonding at low temperature using polymer bump and Non-Conductive Adhesive (NCA), and studied the reliability of the polymer bump/Al pad joints. The polymer bumps were formed on oxidized Si substrates by photolithography process, and the thin film metals were formed on the polymer bumps using DC magnetron sputtering. The substrate used was AL metallized glass. The polymer bump and Al metallized glass substrates were joined together at $80^{\circ}C$ under various pressure. Two NCAs were applied during joining. Thermal cycling test ($0^{\circ}C-55^{\circ}C$, cycle/30 min) was carried out up to 2000 cycles to evaluate the reliability of the joints. The bondability was evaluated by measuring the contact resistance of the joints through the four point probe method, and the joints were observed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The contact resistance of the joints was $70-90m{\Omega}$ before the reliability test. The joints of the polymer bump/Al pad were damaged by NCA filler particles under pressure above 200 MPa. After reliability test, some joints were electrically failed since thinner metal layers deposited at the edge of bumps were disconnected.

This study aims to explore an evolutionary path of the IT service industry in Fairfax County using the Cluster Adaptive Cycle model in economic geography. The analysis is based on detailed historical and industrial information obtained through a variety of data sources including local archival materials, economic census, and interviews. This study also performs a shift-share analysis during the period of 1990 to 2011. Using the adaptive cycle model, the local IT service industry is indicated by a trajectory of constant cluster mutation. The evolution of the local IT service industry has been closely related to federal government policy due to the regional specificity of the National Capital Region and the proximity of the Department of Defense. Although the economic downturn of the late 2000s, the local IT service industry has been notable resilience and adapted to a changing market and technological environment. This constant mutation of the local industry is resulted from not only high resilience which is based on the large government procurement market, the reinforcement of adaptive capacity of the local firms and the network of economic agents such as firm and supporting institutions, but also high flexibility of the knowledge-based service industry to a changing business environment.

In this study, mechanical properties of waste ground rubber tire powder were investigated to evaluate the influence of pre-treatment process for recycling. The tensile test, fracture test and morphology observation were carried out using various kinds of waste ground tire powders, which were produced by grinding and devulcanization process, respectively. As a results, it was found that the produced rubber powder through grinding process increased its tensile strength and elongation with decreasing particle size because of decreasing surface area. Devulcanized rubber powder also increased its tensile strength and elongation by de-crosslink with sulfur. It could be also suggested that devulcanization treatment after grinding process was more efficient recycling process for both increasing tensile property and fracture elongation of waste ground rubber tire powders.
Phase-only encryption scheme using exclusive-OR rules in Fourier plane and a single path decryption system are presented. A zero-padded original image, multiplied by a random phase image, is Fourier transformed and its real-valued data is encrypted with key data by using XOR rules. A decryption is simply performed based on 2-1 setup with spatial filter by Fourier transform for multiplying phase-only encrypted data by phase-only key data, which are obtained by phase-encoding process, and spatial filtering for zero-order elimination in inverse-Fourier plane. Since the encryption process is peformed in Fourier plane, proposed encryption scheme is more tolerant to loss of key information by scratching or cutting than previous XOR encryption method in space domain. Compare with previous phase-visualization systems, due to the simple architecture without a reference wave, our system is basically robust to mechanical vibrations and fluctuations. Numerical simulations have confirmed the proposed technique as high-level encryption and simple decryption architecture.

In response to the cavitation caused by the partial vacuum caused by the fluid flow, a paint was developed by dispersing the lamella-shaped glass-flake in resin for anti-cavitation. This composite paint was developed by using the inorganic filler (lamella shaped glass-flake) and the NBR (Acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber) which was modified epoxy resin. Especially, the glass-flake was a thin film with a thickness of about 100~200 nm and length of about $20{\sim}30{\mu}m$, the aspect ratio was about 200 to 300 times that of the plate-shaped. So the paint for anti-cavitation have shown excellent performance in corrosion resistance. The results of evaluating anti-cavitation performance was below, tensile strength $4.8{\sim}6N/mm^2$ or more, rupture elongation 30% or higher, abrasive speed $10mm^2/h$ or less. In particular, it showed more than twice the superior performance compared to existing advanced foreign products in anti-cavitation performance evaluation.
A piezoresistive silicon acceleration sensor with 8 beams, utilized by an unique silicon micromachining technique using porous silicon etching method which was fabricated on the selectively diffused (111)-oriented $n/n^{+}/n$ silicon subtrates. The width, length, and thickness of the beam was $100\;{\mu}m$, $500\;{\mu}m$, and $7\;{\mu}m$, respectively, and the diameter of the mass paddle (the region suspended by the eight beams) was 1.4 mm. The seismic mass on the mass paddle was formed about 2 mg so as to measure accelerations of the range of 50g for automotive applications. For the formation of the mass, the solder mass was loaded on the mass paddle by dispensing Pb/Sn/Ag solder paste. After the solder paste is deposited, Heat treatment was carried out on the 3-zone reflow equipment. The decay time of the output signal to impulse excitation of the fabricated sensor was observed for approximately 30 ms. The sensitivity measured through summing circuit was 2.9 mV/g and the nonlinearity of the sensor was less than 2% of the full scale output. The output deviation of each bridge was ${\pm}4%$. The cross-axis sensitivity was within 4% and the resonant frequency was found to be 2.15 KHz from the FEM simulation results.

In this study, using the CADMAS-SURF model, the characteristics of the wave pressures and the wave forces were analyzed according to the installation position of the parapet on top of the caisson, and the stability evaluation was carried out using estimated wave forces for the design wave condition. Numerical results show that adopting the rear-parapet reduces the front maximum wave pressures and wave forces, and the maximum wave pressure acting on the rear-parapet increases slightly compared to the front parapet, but the wave force acting on the rear-parapet has little effect on the stability of the breakwater due to the phase difference with the wave force acting on the front of the breakwater. In addition, impulsive wave pressures did not occur, as Yamamoto et al. (2013) pointed out the problem of the rear-parapet breakwater. As a result of the stability against sliding and overturning, it was estimated that the target safety factor of 1.2 could be secured by the self-weight of 13% less than the case of the front parapet. At this time, the maximum ground pressure was also reduced by 30%, and the applicability of the rear-parapet structure to the actual site was evaluated as high.
