  • This study investigates the export behavior of port of Pyeongtaek-Dangjin and Daesan. The monthly data cover the period from January 2002 to December 2012. This paper tests whether the exchange rate and the industrial production are stationary or not, rejecting the null hypothesis of a unit root in each of the level variables and of a unit root for the residuals from the cointegration at the 5 percent significance level. The error-correction model is estimated to find that Daesan port is faster than Pyeongtaek-Dangjin in adjusting the short-run disequilibrium. This paper finds that the exchange rate coefficient of Daesan port is higher than that of Pyeongtaek-Dangjin port, while the industrial production coefficient of the former is much smaller than that of the latter. The industrial production coefficient is, however, much higher than the exchange rate coefficient in both ports. The rolling regression shows that the influence of exchange rate and industrial production tends to increase in Pyeongtaek-Dangjin port but tends to decrease in Daesan. The impulse response functions indicate that export volumes respond much greater to the positive shocks in industrial production than in exchange rate, and the exchange rate shock decays very fast, while the industrial production shock lasts very long.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the causuality among export and import trading volume of port of Busan, Kwangyang, Incheon and to induce policy implications. In order to test whether time series data is stationary and the model is fitness or not, we put in operation unit root test, cointegration test. And We apply Granger causality and impulse response and variance decomposition based on VECM. The results indicate that the trading volume of port of Busan is not largely influenced by that of port of Kawangyang and Incheon, but the trading volume of port of Kawangyang and Incheon is largely influenced by other ports including port of Busan. The result suggest that government has to focus on policy that the port of Kawangyang and Incheon can raise its own competitiveness in the world market.

  • In this study, authors analyzed the vapor cloud explosion induced by propane leak at the PEMIX Terminal, which is the propane storage facility outside of Mexico City. TNT equivalence mass for the leaked 4750 kg propane was estimated to be 9398 kg. Blast parameters such as peak overpressure, positive phase duration, and impact at 40-400 (m) away from the center of the explosion were calculated by applying TNT Equivalency Method and Multi-Energy Method. The probability of damage due to lung damage, eardrum rupture, head impact, and whole-body displacement impact by applying the probit function obtained using blast parameters was evaluated. The peak overpressure obtained using Multi-Energy Method was found to be greater than the peak overpressure obtained by applying the TNT Equivalency Method at all distances considered, but it was evaluated that there was no significant difference from the points above 200 m. The peak overpressure obtained by Multi-Energy Method was computed to assess the extent of damage to the structure, and it was shown that structures within 100 m of the explosion center would collapse completely, and that the glasses of the structures 400 m away would be almost broken. The probability of death due to lung damage was shown to vary depending on a human body's position located in the propagating direction of shock wave, and if there is a reflecting surface in the immediate surroundings of a human body, the probability of death was estimated to be the greatest. The impact of shock wave on lung damage, eardrum rupture, head impact, and whole-body displacement impact was evaluated and found to affect whole-body impact < lung damage < eardrum rupture

  • The computer program, MFPD, which is used to backcalculate the layer moduli of asphalt concrete pavement system is modified by contemplating the depth to virtual bedrock in this study. An algorithm to estimate the depth to virtual bedrock is developed through the analysis of FWD impulse load duration and the compression wave velocity of ground. For verification of the modified MFPD, FWD is fabricated and then FWD field tests and verification tests are carried out at the test sites. Plate loading tests and surface wave propagation tests are performed at FWD test sites. Laboratory tests (Marshall stability tests, unconfined compression tests) for sampled asphalt concrete specimens are also carried out. From comparison analysis, the validity and applicability of the modified MFPD are verified.

  • This Study introduces the design of a reactive type silencer for reducing impulse noises emitted from a high voltage COS fuse of a transformer. When a high voltage COS fuse becomes a short circuit by the over current, the peak sound pressure level above 150dB(A) is generated at the distance of 2m from a COS Fuse. For the purpose of the reduction of impulse noise, in this study. the reactive type silencers have been utilized. The performance of noise reduction for them can be expressed by insertion loss. The reactive silencers have been tested for 23 different types with each different porosity, hole diameter and depth. From the experimental results, it is found that the reactive silencer has an excellent performance to greatly suppress the impulse noise. The one-stage, two-stage and three-stage reactive type silencers have been shown to have the insertion losses of about from 35dB (A) to 25dB(A).

  • Rainfall is one of the most active forces that cause soil erosion. The action of rain on the soil exerts an erosive power caused by the impact of the drops, which fall with variable speed and kinetic energy, depending directly on the diameter of the drop. The objective of this study is to determine algorithms capable of estimating rainfall erosivity for the region of Maceió-AL. For this purpose, erosion rains were collected between 2003 and 2006 using a RD-69 disdrometer, which continuously and automatically measures rainfall distribution in a range of 1 min. The determination of algorithms in the form of power equation to estimate was adjusted with one and two independent variables (amount of rainfall, duration and maximum intensity).

  • The understanding of the pressure associated with air blast, which travels through air, and its effect on surface and underground structures is highly important. It is necessary to determine the pressure change with time and distance for a computer simulation of the explosion impact on a structure. From the previous studies, many empirical equations for estimating the parameters related to the pressure change. In this study, the empirical equations for predicting peak overpressure, duration of positive phase, impulse, minimum negative pressure, duration of negative pressure, arrival time, and decay constant were reviewed and analyzed. Also, the pressure changes predicted from the Kingery equation, which is the most commonly used, and from the other empirical equations were compared.

  • When concrete structures expose to fire, the structures were damaged accompanied with degradation of material properties of concrete. In order to determine the reuse of fire-damaged concrete structures, it is needed a careful determination considering conditions of fire damage, such as exposure temperature and exposure time, and also potential to restore fire damage. This study investigates on the evaluation of residual material properties of fire-damaged concrete under different post-fire curing regimes. An experimental study was performed on concrete samples to measure the dynamic elastic modulus by the impact resonance vibration method. Upon the experimental results, the evidence of restoration of material properties was confirmed on specific post-fire curing regimes, higher humidity conditions. Additionally, a correlation analysis was performed on the dynamic elastic modulus with the tensile strength for identifying the effects of post-fire curing regimes on both material properties of fire-damaged concrete.

  • When ships are sailing with large motions in rough waves, the slamming phenomenon occurs and the ships suffer from impulsive pressure loadings. Recently, ships are becoming lager and faster than before and it becomes more possible that the ships experience larger impacts on their bows and sterns. Many researchers have been performing the investigations on slamming experimentally and theoretically for a long time. Most of the research reported in the open literature focused on how to accurately estimate the amplitude of the peak pressure of slamming. According to the results of a recently published work, not only the amplitude of peak pressure but also the width of the peak may play an important role in predicting the extents of damage of impacted structures. The uncertainty of impulsive pressure loadings due to slamming has been indicated by many researchers. However, probabilistic treatments of the impulsive pressure loadings are few. In this study, drop tests were conducted on wedges having dead-rise angles of $0^{\circ}$ and $10^{\circ}$. Not only the amplitude of peak pressure but also the width of peak pressure were measured. Furthermore, the variations of those values are also provided for the probabilistic approach of the slamming problem.
