  • To test the current collection characteristics between overhead contact lines and pantograph in a real speed scale costs too much, therefore, it is very difficult to be realized especially in a high speed region. As a alternative, the speed scale-downed tests is proposed. In this paper, the experimental methodology and effectiveness of the speed scale-downed tests are discussed through the dynamic simulation evaluations. To get a more precise test results to the real speed scale test in the 1/2 and 1/4 speed scale-downed tests, various experimental conditions are discussed. Throughout the simulation in a various conditions the effectiveness are evaluated.

  • Vibration characteristics of concrete slabs were investigated using a 1:10 scale model and finite element method. A 1:10 scale model of a test building with 150 and 200mm slab thicknesses was made of acrylic materials. Modal test was conducted to investigate mode shape and modal frequencies. Results show that the mode shapes of two slabs with different thickness are similar each other, whereas natural frequency is different. Through modal analysis using FEM, it was revealed that both mode shapes and natural frequencies calculated from the FEM model are similar to those of the scale model measurement. It was also found that natural frequencies increased with increment of the slab thickness.

  • In order to the sound effects and acoustics estimation of PANSORI hall, we are researched into the impulse response measuring and convolution integral of dry music(PANSORI) by using 1/10 scale model. Results are as follwo. First, impulse responses are measured by spark sound of electrodes and it is absolutely necessary many times of synchronous calculating for the obtain to enough S/N ratio. Second, a simulation technique of scale model is confirmed one of an effectual method of indoor acoustics estimation. Further, using the these new techniques and hearing test, its are recognized that reverberation time of PANSORI hall is about $1.0{\sim}$12.$ second suitable.

  • This paper describes an investigation how to carry out model tests of deepwater moorings exceeding the basin depth range. A hybrid mooring model, a combination of mooring lines scaled model and a couple of linear springs, is taken into account as an equivalent substitute of a full depth mooring system. Such an idea is applied to the model test of an OTEC mooring system to be installed in 1000m deep ocean. A 1/25 scaled model test of surface vessel and the upper part of mooring system is performed at ocean engineering basin. Possibility and limitation of the hybrid mooring modeling is discussed.

  • A container crane model was tested to investigate wind-load characteristics in uniform flows and ground boundary layers. Drag coefficients and moment coefficients show their minimum values at 0, 90, 180 degrees wind directions and maximum values at 60 and 120 degrees. Strong interactions among structure elements produce such variations of the wind-load with wind directions. The BS-2573 code is shown to over-estimation can be reflected in the design stage of cranes by refining the rule of the designer. Some roundings of coners of the engine room and the machinery room reduce the wind-load by 10 percents. Considerable reductions of the wind-load would be expected if further integrated development of the crane structure are executed.

  • A series of hydraulic model tests have been conducted for a Parshall flume which was designed for streamflow measurements of two experimental basins in Banwol New Industrial Town. the purpose being to study the effect of urbanizations on the watershed hydrology. The model scale was determined based on the 100-year flood discharge of the basins considering the discharge cf the basins considering the discharge capacity of the hydraulic laboratory where the whole tests were conducted. The calibration equations for depth-discharge relations were derived by analyzing the model test data and were compared with those of Parshall's work. The discharge calibration for the prototype flume, which is to be constructed at the outlets of the experimental basins, was obtained through the analysis of data converted from the model test data by the laws of similarity.

  • The present study aims to design and utilize a model test system of a Caisson in wet towing condition, to assess towing stability of a 9,300 ton class caisson. The suggested towing system was designed to provide regular tension on the towline, whereas the previous model test system towed the model in constant speed. The new model test system was expected to reproduce the towing condition more realistically than the test system with constant speed condition, as the tugboat in actual towing condition tows the towline with constant power. Model tests were conducted in a towing tank with 1/30 scaled model. In the model tests, six-degrees-of-freedom motion of the caisson model and tension on the towline were measured and analyzed. By using the new system, fluctuation of the motion of model and tension on the towline decreased. The variation in the draft and initial trim was applied in the model tests. In the initial trim condition, the motion and towing force decreased.

  • Digital elevation models(DEM) were generated from SPOT-5 HRG supermode imagery through photogrammetric processing. The reference DEMs were obtained from digital topographic maps of 1/5000 scaleas for analyzing the accuracy of the generated DEMs. The DEMs extracted from HRG stereo image data were compared with digital topograpic map DEMs on several test sections. And digital surface models(DSM) and 3D building model was produced.

  • This paper describes the test carried out on an experimental study of fuselage drag and stability characteristics of a helicopter configuration and the test techniques developed for the testing and the lessons learned in the Agency for Defense Development Low Speed Wind Tunnel(ADD-LSWT). The main objective of this test is to determine the drag and stability characteristics of helicopter configurations according to the various configuration changes. The fuselage model with a highly modular structure is a representation of 1:8 scale of the external contour of the conceptual design helicopter configuration with rotating main rotor hub including blade stubs capable of rotating up to 500 rpm. The test results are compared with the available similar data and fair to good agreement is obtained.

  • The test facility of a 1/60-scale model for train-tunnel systems has been recently developed to investigate the effects of tunnel portal shapes, hood shapes and air-shafts for reducing the micro-pressure waves radiating towards the surroundings from the tunnel exit. The present test rig has been advanced from a 1/70-scale facility at NLR in Netherlands. The NLR test rig has the two-wise guidance system that needs two ears attached on the external surface of a model train nose. Therefore, their train models have irregular nose shapes. The main characteristics of the present facility are that the train model is guided by only one wire from the compressed air launcher to the absorber parts of test facility and the wire guidance hole is located at the axial center of a train model. In the present test rig, after a train model is launched, the air jet from the launcher does not enter the tunnel model. Experimental results were compared with numerical predictions to prove the performance of the test facility.
