In this article, the design of a variable F-number and triple magnification infrared optical system is described. That is a two-in-one optical system that combines an infrared search and track (IRST) system and an electro-optical tracking system (EOTS), where an afocal optical system is added to the IRST optical system designed already. The performance target is determined by analyzing system performance, and then the specification in the optical system design is calculated. This optical system contains a warm stop making it possible that one optics has two different F/# by cutting the size of aperture, and that is designed to suit this optics. The system satisfies the requirement such as a modulation transfer function (MTF). For operational assessment, the movement of the focusing lens group is analyzed over the change of temperature and target distance. By using this optical system, it is possible to develop equipment having two functions, infrared searching and electro-optical tracking.
Housing prices are closely related to various variables that indicate macroeconomic conditions. In this paper, empirical analysis based on data is performed referring to previous studies. Focusing on the policy interest rate among the factors affecting the housing price, the non-linear impulse responses of other variables to the interest rate shock are analyzed. Using the random forest algorithm, the variable importance scores of the macroeconomic variables presented in the previous studies are calculated. After selecting the variables through this process, the impulse responses are calculated using a model that can capture non-linearity. According to the model, the responses of housing prices to the policy rate is only significant when the rate is raised. Especially, the impulse response is amplified when the shock increases due to the non-linear characteristics that can not be captured by the traditional VAR methodology. The analysis results suggest that the interest rate as a policy instrument should be approached from a more cautious perspective.
This study analyzed student noticing in a lesson that emphasized relational understanding of equal signs for first graders from four aspects: centers of focus, focusing interactions, mathematical tasks, and nature of the mathematical activity. Specifically, the instructional factors that emphasize the relational understanding of equal signs derived from previous research were applied to a first-grade addition and subtraction unit, and then lessons emphasizing the relational understanding of equal signs were conducted. Students' noticing in this lesson was comprehensively analyzed using the focusing framework proposed in the previous study. The results showed that in real classroom contexts centers of focus is affected by the structure of the equation and the form of the task, teacher-student interactions, and normed practices. In particular, we found specific teacher-student interactions, such as emphasizing the meaning of the equals sign or using examples, that helped students recognize the equals sign relationally. We also found that students' noticing of the equation affects reasoning about equation, such as being able to reason about the equation relationally if they focuse on two quantities of the same size or the relationship between both sides. These findings have implications for teaching methods of equal sign.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the distribution and fluorescence intensity of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide immunoreactive (VIP-IR) cells in rat trigeminal ganglion following pulp extirpation of rat mandibular molar. The animals were divided into control group(n=6) and experimental group(n=6). The experimental animals were sacrificed at 14 days after pulp extirpation. The trigeminal ganglion was removed and immersed in the 4% paraformaldehyde in 0.1M phosphate buffer. Serial frozen sections about $20{\mu}m$ in thickness were cut with a cryostat. The immunofluorescence staining was performed. The rabbit anti-VIP(1 : 8,000) was used as primary antibody and fluorescene isothiocynate(FITC) conjugated anti-rabbit IgG(1 : 80) as secondary antibody. The slides were observed under confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). Unprocessed optical sections were obtained and stored on a optical disk. Color pictures were printed by a video copy processor. The results were as follows; 1. The positive ratio of VIP-IR cells in mandibular part of trigeminal ganglion were 7.40% in control group and 28.42% in experimental group(14 days after pulp extirpation). 2. The relative fluorescence intensity of VIP-IR cells in mandibular part of trigeminal ganglion were 87.78 in control group and 138.65 in experimental group. The relative fluorescence intensity of experimental group was 58% higher than that of control group. 3. In optical serial section analysis of VIP-IR cells of experimental group, most of the 9 sections showed high fluorescence intensity. At high magnification, axons of the experimental group displayed greater VIP-IR than in the control group, and the positive cells were mainly of medium size. The result indicate that number and fluorescence intensity of VIP-IR cells were increased in the mandibular part of trigeminal ganglion following pulp extirpation of mandibular molar, and it suggests that VIP could play a role in processing of nociception.

In this work, we performed a proof-of-concept experiment for phase-contrast x-ray imaging (PCXI) based on a single antiscatter grid and a polychromatic x-ray source. We established a table-top setup which consists of a focused-linear grid having a strip density of 200 lines/inch, a microfocus x-ray tube having a focal-spot size of about $5{\mu}m$, and a CMOS-type flat-panel detector having a pixel size of $48{\mu}m$. By using our prototype PCXI system and the Fourier demodulation technique, we successfully obtained attenuation, scattering, and differential phase-contrast images of improved visibility from the raw images of several selected samples at x-ray tube conditions of $90kV_p$ and 0.1 mAs. Further, fusion image (e.g., the attenuation+the scattering) may have an advantage in displaying details of the sample's structures that are not clearly visible in the conventional attenuation image. Our experimental results indicate that single-grid-based approach seems a useful method for PCXI with great simplicity and minimal requirements on the setup alignment.
Extended Depth of Focus (EDF) algorithms for extracting three-dimensional (3D) information from a set of optical image slices are studied by many researches recently. Due to the limited depth of focus of the microscope, only a small portion of the image slices are in focus. Most of the EDF algorithms try to find the in-focus area to generate a single focused image and a 3D depth image. Inherent to most image processing algorithms, the EDF algorithms need parameters to be properly initialized to perform successfully. In this paper, we select three popular transform-based EDF algorithms which are each based on pyramid, wavelet transform, and complex wavelet transform, and study the performance of the algorithms according to the initialization of its parameters. The parameters we considered consist of the number of levels used in the transform, the selection of the lowest level image, the window size used in high frequency filter, the noise reduction method, etc. Through extended simulation, we find a good relationship between the initialization of the parameters and the properties of both the texture and 3D ground truth images. Typically, we find that a proper initialization of the parameters improve the algorithm performance 3dB ~ 19dB over a default initialization in recovering the 3D information.
The permeability coefficients were calculated by the homogenization analysis method with sufficient consideration of fracture geometry dependent on aperture change. According to the results of aperture measurements using a confocal laser scanning microscope, apertures on each measuring point display different magnitudes, indicating that fracture walls can not be assumed as parallel feature. After construction of fracture model based on the aperture values measured on each pressure level, the homogenization analysis was conducted to compute permeability coefficients. The calculated permeability coefficients distribute in the ranges of $10^{-1}~10^{-3}cm/sec$. Most of the specimens show decreasing permeability coefficients with the increase of the applied pressure. However, the decreasing rates of permeability coefficients do not show a constant trend on each pressure level. This phenomenon is well matched to the observation results of Chae et al. (2003). It proves that aperture change strongly influences on permeability characteristics. Three sections of each specimen have all different values of permeability coefficient. It suggests that the variation of permeability coefficient depends sensitively on aperture magnitudes and characteristics of fracture geometry. It is very important to consider accurate fracture geometries for analysis of permeability characteristics in rock fractures bearing different aperture distribution. Therefore, it needs to consider sufficiently the fracture geometries for calculating the permeability coefficients of fractures.
This study collected opinions about the design and management of toothbrushing facilities from schoolteachers and the people in charge of public centers, through a focus group interview (FGI), for the development of guidelines. Four moderators conducted eight FGIs of 32 subjects in charge of toothbrushing facilities across all the regions. The qualitative data was analyzed by constant comparative analysis. The findings indicated that more students utilized the facility and brushed their teeth after the installation of toothbrushing facilities. To enhance students' accessibility and safety, guidelines for design and management guidelinesfor toothbrushing facilities need to be developed; the location, sink height and depth, drain size, etc. should be comprehensively considered in the development of the guidelines. This study can help to improve students' satisfaction by enhancing the accessibility, safety, and functionality of toothbrushing facilities, and by providing fundamental data for toothbrushing facilities' development. Finally, this study can maximize the effects of management of toothbrushing facilities management on the improvement of students' oral health and behaviors.
Weights can be made and imposed in both sample design stage and analysis stage in a sample survey. While in design stage weights are related with sample data acquisition quantities such as sample selection probability and response rate, in analysis stage weights are connected with external quantities, for instance population quantities and some auxiliary information. The final weight is the product of all weights in both stage. In the present paper, we focus on the weight in analysis stage and investigate the effect of such weights imposed on the weighted mean when estimating the population mean. We consider a finite population with a pair of fixed survey value and weight in each unit, and suppose equal selection probability designs. Under the condition we derive the formulas of the bias as well as mean square error of the weighted mean and show that the weighted mean is biased and the direction and amount of the bias can be explained by the correlation between survey variate and weight: if the correlation coefficient is positive, then the weighted mein over-estimates the population mean, on the other hand, if negative, then under-estimates. Also the magnitude of bias is getting larger when the correlation coefficient is getting greater. In addition to theoretical derivation about the weighted mean, we conduct a simulation study to show quantities of the bias and mean square errors numerically. In the simulation, nine weights having correlation coefficient with survey variate from -0.2 to 0.6 are generated and four sample sizes from 100 to 400 are considered and then biases and mean square errors are calculated in each case. As a result, in the case or 400 sample size and 0.55 correlation coefficient, the amount or squared bias of the weighted mean occupies up to 82% among mean square error, which says the weighted mean might be biased very seriously in some cases.

For camera calibration, a checkerboard is generally used to determine the principal point, focal length, and lens distortions. The checkerboard has a planar and three-dimensional shape, and camera calibration parameters are affected by the size of the checkerboard, the placement of the target, and the number of target points. In this study, the accuracies of the types of checkerboards were compared using checkpoints for stereo camera calibration, and the purpose of this study was to propose the best performance checkerboard. The checkerboard with large flat shape showed comparatively high accuracy through comparison with the check points. However, due to the size of the checkerboard, it was inconvenient to move and rotate, and there was a disadvantage in that it was difficult to shoot so that the target points could all appear in the stereo camera. The checkerboard, which was manufactured in a small size in a flat shape, was easy to move and rotate but had the lowest three-dimensional accuracy. The checkerboard with targets with height values had the hassle of having to determine the three-dimensional coordinates of the target points by using observation equipment for camera calibration, but it was small in size, convenient to move and rotate, and showed the highest three-dimensional accuracy.
