Solubilization of Dairy Sludge using Ultrasonic Pretreatment (초음파를 이용한 유가공 슬러지의 가용화)

  • The effects of ultrasonic (1.2~1.7 kJ/g TS) pretreatment on the solubilization of dairy and livestock sludge were separately evaluated to investigate the possibility of recycling dairy sludge as a potential source of organic carbon. Compared to other industrial wastewater and sewage sludge, dairy sludge has higher organic matter content and no toxic materials. The solubilization rates of dairy and livestock sludge, at a specific energy input of 1.7 kJ/g TS, were 14.5% and 10.6%, respectively. After the 90-minute ultrasonic treatment, the soluble COD (chemical oxygen demand) increased about 7.1 times that of the initial SCOD, at an increase rate of $0.022m^{-1}$. In comparison, the increase in soluble nitrogen, which was ~3.4 times that of the initial soluble nitrogen concentration, was much smaller than the increase in SCOD; thus, the C/N ratio increased from 4.0 to 8.7.

Extraction of Deep Neck Flexors from Cervical Utrasound Images using Enhanced Fuzzy Techniques (개선된 퍼지 기법을 이용한 경추 초음파 영상에서의 경부심굴곡근 추출)

  • 본 논문에서는 경추 초음파 DICOM 영상에서 개선된 퍼지 시그마 기법을 이용하여 경부심굴곡근을 추출하고 두께를 측정하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 ROI 영역에서 Ends-In Search Stretching을 적용하여 명암 대비를 강조한다. Stretching된 ROI 영역에서 평균 이진화를 적용한 후, Blob 알고리즘을 적용하여 흉쇄유돌근과 경부심굴곡근의 후보 영역을 추출한다. 추출된 경부심굴곡근 후보 영역에서 경추의 위치 정보를 이용하여, 경추의 경계 영역을 검출한 후, Cubic Spline 보간법 알고리즘을 적용하여 스플라인 곡선을 추출한다. 스플라인 곡선 영상에서 상/하 탐색 알고리즘을 적용하여, 최대/최소 범위 영역을 설정한다. Stretching된 ROI 영역에서 최대/최소 범위에 해당하는 영역에 대해 개선된 퍼지 시그마 이진화를 적용한다. 적용된 영역을 Blob 알고리즘을 이용하여 잡음을 제거하고 Morphology 알고리즘을 이용하여 초음파 영상의 첫 번째 경추 기준점의 좌표 정보를 추출한다. 경추 기준점을 기준으로 두께 측정에 필요한 경부심굴곡근 후보 영역을 추출하고 개선된 퍼지 시그마 이진화 알고리즘을 적용한다. 개선된 퍼지 시그마 이진화 알고리즘이 적용된 영상에서 근막의 위치 정보를 이용하여 경부심굴곡근상단 경계선을 추출한다. 추출된 각 경추 객체에 DDA(Digital Differential Analyzer) 알고리즘과 Cubic Spline 보간법 알고리즘을 적용하여 경부심굴곡근의 하단 경계선을 추출한다. 추출된 경부심 굴곡근의 상/하단 경계선의 위치 정보를 이용하여, 측정에 필요한 경부심굴곡근을 추출한다. 제안된 방법을 경추 초음파 영상에 적용하여 경부심굴곡근을 추출한 결과, 기존의 경부심굴곡근추출 방법보다 효율적으로 경부심굴곡근을 추출하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

Particle Removal on Silicon Wafer Surface by Ozone-HF-NH4OH Sequence (불산-오존-희석 암모니아수 세정에 의한 실리콘 웨이퍼 표면의 미세입자 제거)

  • In this paper efficient method for particle removal from silicon wafers by usage of HF and ozone was studied. It was found that at least 0.3 vol% concentration of HF was required for particle removal and removal efficiency increased with the application of megasonic in ozonated water. Additional cleaning with minute amount of ammonia (0.01 vol%) after HF/Ozone step showed over 99% in removal efficiency. It is proposed that the superior cleaning efficiency of HF-Ozone-ammonia is due to micro-etching of silicon surface and impediment of particle re-adsorption in alkali environment. Compared to SC-1 cleaning method micro roughness has also been slightly improved. Therefore it is expected that HF-ozone-ammonia cleaning method is a viable alternative to the conventional wet cleaning methods.

Usefulness of Median Modified Wiener Filter Algorithm for Noise Reduction in Liver Cirrhosis Ultrasound Image (간경변 초음파 영상에서의 노이즈 제거를 위한 Median Modified Wiener Filter 알고리즘의 유용성)

  • The method of observing nodular changes on the liver surface using clinical ultrasonography is useful for diagnosing cirrhosis. However, the speckle noise that inevitably occurs in ultrasound images makes it difficult to identify changes in the liver surface and echo patterns, which has a negative impact on the diagnosis of cirrhosis. The purpose of this study is to model the median modified Wiener filter (MMWF), which can efficiently reduce noise in cirrhotic ultrasound images, and confirm its applicability. Ultrasound images were acquired using an ACR phantom and an actual cirrhotic patient, and the proposed MMWF algorithm and conventional noise reduction algorithm were applied to each image. Coefficient of variation (COV) and edge rise distance (ERD) were used as quantitative image quality evaluation factors for the acquired ultrasound images. We confirmed that the MMWF algorithm improved both COV and ERD values compared to the conventional noise reduction algorithm in both ACR phantom and real ultrasound images of cirrhotic patients. In conclusion, the proposed MMWF algorithm is expected to contribute to improving the diagnosis rate of cirrhosis patients by reducing the noise level and improving spatial resolution at the same time.

Implementation of a silicon sludge recycling system for solar cell using multiple centrifuge (다중 원심분리법을 이용한 태양전지용 실리콘 폐 슬러지 재생 시스템 구현)

  • This paper explained about the sludge recycling system which retrieved the silicon and abrasive from solar cell wafer slicing. The basic process of the recycling system was multiple centrifuge and secondary processes of ultra sonic agitation, addition of alcohol-water solution and heating sludge was added for raising separation efficiency. The recycling rate was about 96% and 94% for 2N, 4N silicon respectively. The SiC abrasive recycling rate was about 80%. To retrieve the high purity of 4N silicon, the heat process in vacuum furnace was added to remove remaining impurity components.

  • Industrial equipment, such as power plant, is required to operate reliably, continuously and economically under rather severe conditions of temperature, stress, and enbironment. To test structural integrity and fitness, ultrasonic nondestructive testing is used because of effectiveness and simplicity. In this paper, wavelet transform based least mean square(LMS) algorithm is applied to reduce the influence of the interference occurring between randomly positioned small scatters. The RUN test is performed to check the nonstationarity of the speckle noise signal. The performance of this new approach is compared with that of the time domain LMS algorithm by means of condition numbers, signal-to-noise ratio and 3-D image. As a result, the wavelet transform based LMS algorithm shows better performance than the time domain LMS algorithm in this experiment.

Study on Sludge Reduction by Sludge Solubilization and Change of Operation Conditions of Sewage Treatment Process (하수슬러지 가용화와 하수처리 운전조건 개선을 통한 하수슬러지 발생저감 연구)

  • In order to find the way to solve the problem of sewage sludge discharge into the ocean, the sludge solubilization by ultrasonic and the improvement methods of wastewater treatment process were studied. In the membrane bioreactor the sludge retention time was stepwise increased from 5.1 day to 442 days where the biomass average concentration has been increased from $c_B$=3.4 $gTSSL^{-1}$ to $c_B$=14.5 $gTSSL^{-1}$ respectively. At the same time, the biomass yield coefficients were reduced from 0.5-0.7 at SRT=5.1 day to 0.005-0.007 at SRT=442 days which means the reduction of sludge production. Oxygen mass transfer coefficients and ${\alpha}$-factor were investigated with changing stirrer speed to find the relation between the high biomass concentration and aeration efficiency in the propeller loop reactor. As a result of sludge solubilization, the solubilization of sludge by ultrasound was increased with increasing energy input and it led to improved anaerobic digestion rate with more biogas production than that of nonsolubilized sewage sludge.

  • 실리콘 잉곳의 절단공정에서 발생하는 폐실리콘 슬러지는 실리콘과 실리콘카바이드 등의 유가자원이 함유되어 있는데, 본 연구에서는 폐실리콘 슬러지 중의 실리콘 분말을 효과적으로 분리, 회수하는 방법에 대해 검토하였다. 폐실리콘 슬러지는 상당량의 절삭유와 소량의 철분말이 포함되어 있는데 절삭유는 유기 용매에 용해시켜 효과적으로 분리하였고, 철분말은 자력선별에 의해 제거하였다. 절삭유와 철성분이 제거된 잔사인 실리콘과 실리콘 카바이드의 혼합 분말로부터 초음파 분산 선별법을 사용하여 실리콘 분말을 효율적으로 분리회수 하였다.

Feasibility Study on Remediation for Railroad-contaminated Soil with Waste-lubricant (윤활유 유래 철도 오염토양의 정화방법 연구)

  • In this study, the feasibility of soil washing, chemical oxidation and sonication was investigated to treat lubricantcontaminated railroad soil. Tergitol, a non-ionic surfactant, was used as a washing agent with or without iso-propyl acohol as a cosolvent. However, it was not effective to remove lubricant from soil even though tergitol was the most effective washing agent for diesel-contaminated soil. The cosolvent reduced the overall washing efficiency. Chemical oxidation removed 30% of lubricant from contaminated soil. Soil washing after chemical oxidation extracted additionally 16-17% of lubricant. Sonication enhanced-soil washing showed enhanced overall efficiency of soil washing. Lubricant-contaminated soil should be remediated by the other technology used for diesel-contaminated soil.

Automatic Boundary Detection of Carotid Intima-Media based on Multiresolution Snake (다해상도 스네이크를 통한 경동맥 내막-중막 경계선 자동추출)

  • The intima media thickness(IMT) of the carotid artery from B mode ultrasound images has recently been proposed as the most useful index of individual atherosclerosis and can be used to predict major cardiovascular events. Ultrasonic measurements of the IMT are conventionally obtained by manually tracing interfaces between tissue layers. The drawbacks of this method are the inter and intra observer variability and its inefficiency. In this paper, we present a multiresolution snake method combined with the dynamic programming, which overcomes the various noises and sensitivity to initialization of conventional snake. First, an image pyramid is constructed using the Gaussian pyramid that maintains global edge information with smoothing in the images, and then the boundaries are automatically detected in the lowest resolution level by minimizing a cost function based on dynamic programming. The cost function includes cost terms which are representing image features and geometrical continuity of the vessel interfaces. Since the detected boundaries are selected as initial contour of the snake for the next level, this automated approach solves the problem of the initialization. Moreover, the proposed snake improves the problem of converging th the local minima by defining the external energy based on multiple image features. In this paper, our method has been validated by computing the correlation between manual and automatic measurements. This automated detection method has obtained more accurate and reproducible results than conventional edge detection by considering multiple image features.
