  • Fine $BaTiO_3$ powder was synthesized from the various starting solution with 0.05 M by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. The conditions of synthesis were fixed on flow rate was 0.5 cm/sec, low temperature furnace was $300^{\circ}C$, and high temperatures furnace was $700^{\circ}C$. The formation procedure was investigated directly by SEM with the collected particle from the each reaction step. Also, the trace of particle in reaction tube was researched theoretically. Fine $BaTiO_3$ was synthesized only in the case of nitrate aqueous solution. The synthesized $BaTiO_3$ powder was porous and spherical which was consist of primary particle at the size of 19.1 nm. The formation procedure was as follows : the particle size decreased in drying step and then increased in initial thermal decomposition step. Finally, particle size was decreased to $0.42 {mu}m$. The trace of particle in reaction tube was also theoretically simulated and discussed.

  • An investigation into the influence of ultrasonic standing wave on the structural behavior of propane/air premixed flame has been made to get a clue to the combustion reaction acceleration and combustion instability, as well. Visualization technique utilizing the Schlieren method was employed for the observation of structural variation of the premixed flame. The flame shape and propagation velocity were measured according to the variation of equivalence ratio. It was found that the standing wave distorted the flame front and expedited a transition to the flame with turbulent nature.

  • A series of substituted styryl 4-methoxy-1-naphthyl ketones [(2E)-1-(4-methoxy-1-naphthyl)-3-phenyl-2-propen-1-ones] were synthesized using facile method of microwave assisted condensation reaction. The yield of chalcones is more than 90%. They are characterized by their physical constants, micro analysis, infrared (KBr, 4000-400 cm?1) and NMR both 1H and 13C spectral data. From infrared spectra, the s-cis and s-trans stretching vibrations of carbonyl group, from NMR spectra the ethylenic proton and carbon chemical shifts (ppm) are assigned. These spectral data are correlated with various Hammett substituent constants. From the results of statistical analysis the effect of substituents on CO, ? and ? proton and carbons are explained.

  • Polysilanes with sterically bulky substituents, -[2-( $R^1R^2$-phenyl)propyl]Si[$R^3$]-, such as poly(2-phenylpropyl)(n-hexyl)silane [$R^1=R^2$=H, $R^3$=n-hexyl] were prepared by Wurtz-type coupling reactions with Na using a sonochemical method. The high-intensity ultrasound provided the formation of high quality Na dispersion in toluene and its active surface which was important for the synthesis of polysilanes in Wurtz-type coupling reaction was freshly and continuously regenerated during the process. The polysilanes products were mixtures of high molecular weight polymers with $\={M}_W$ of ∼$10^6$ and low molecular weight polymers with $\={M}_W$ of ∼$10^3$. It was found that the formation of high molecular weight polymerr was greatly influenced by the substituents $R^3$, directly attached to Si. On the contrary, changes on substituents ($R^1, R^2$) gave no influences at all. Overall yields for polysilanes were 75-99% in general but high molecular weight polysilanes were obtained as a major product when substituent $R^3$ is n-hexyl group and low molecular weight polysilanes were obtained as a major product when substituent $R^3$ is cyclohexyl and 2-phenylethyl groups. Effects of reaction conditions to polysilane yields were investigated.

  • In this study, we investigated optimum conditions for the introduction of a lot of free radical polymerizable methacrylate groups on the multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) surface. Carboxyl groups were introduced first on MWCNT surfaces by treating with a mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid with ultrasonic bath for 2 hours, and oxidized MWCNTs were reacted further with thionyl chloride followed by triethylenetetramine (TETA) to introduce amino groups on the oxidized MWCNT surface, to make MWCNT-$NH_2$. To introduce free radical polymerizable methacrylate groups on the MWCNT-$NH_2$, MWCNT-$NH_2$ was reacted with 3-(acryloyloxy)-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate (AHM) by Michael addition reaction. We investigated progress of modification reactions for MWCNT by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and elemental analysis (EA). We found maximum degree of Michael addition reactions between AHM and TETA grafted on MWCNT-$NH_2$ for 10:1 mol ratio and 8 hour reaction time in our reaction conditions.

  • Ultrasonic cavitational energy distributions were measured in a large-scale sonoreator. In application of 110 and 170 kHz of ultrasound, the cavitational energy was just detected near the transducer module. However 35 and 72 kHz ultrasound made good distributions from the module to the end of the sonoreactor, Especially, 72 kHz ultrasound application showed most stable and highest cavitational energy value through the whole length. In the comparison between input power and cavitational energy, linear relationships were obtained in 35 and 72 kHz and it was anticipated that these results would be used for the optimization of input power for the design of sonoreactors. And three dimensional energy distribution was depicted through the mapping of cavitaional energy. Average energy in the large-scale sonoreactor was estimated as 62.8 W, which was about 40 % of input power.

  • To improve the CNT's dispersion, we tried to chemically modify the surface of MWNT with the butyllithium and the hexyllithium solution in sonicated reactor. The functionalized-MWNTs were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer(FT-IR) and Raman spectrophotometer. Also, we investigated the amount of alkyl moiety incorporated into MWNT's surface with Thermal gravimetric analyzer(TGA) and dispersibility in various organic solvents. Finally, we could find organic content was about 5% of the functionalized MWNT and dispersibility was enhanced in some solvents having intermediate solubility parameter.

  • In this work, the mixture of sewage sludge incubated in an anaerobic bioreactor for 35 days and paperboard sludge was treated in a batch anaerobic digester equipped with a ultrasonicator, and methane production during the treatment was investigated. The Soluble Chemical Oxygen Demand (SCOD) increased with increasing the amplitude of ultrasonicator, which help solubilizing paperboard sludge more effectively. The optimum amplitude of ultrasonicator for the enhancing methane productivity was found to be $142.5\;{\mu}m$ and the methane production amount increased as the anaerobic digestion period became longer. In addition, the anaerobic digestion was performed with various biomass (6000, 9000 and 12000 mg/L) and methane production increased with higher cell mass. These results will be used as valuable data to enhance the methane production from anaerobic digestion of the high concentration of organic wastes containing the paperboard sludge and sewage sludge.
