  • Based on Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, this study explores how to mitigate the disappearance of rual areas. The study surveyed 95 young farmers in Muan-gun to assess their farming practices and the challenges they face. We further employ factor analysis and cluster analysis classify young farmers in Muan-gun, facilitating the identification of tailored policies or initiatives aimed at fostering and supporting young farmers. The results are summarized as follows. First, Muan County does not have any ordinances or original projects specifically designed to support young farmers. Second, the succession rate of farmland among young farmers in Muan County is 41.1%, which is comparable to the national rate of 43.7%. This indicates that approximately 40% of young farmers in Korea have inherited farmland, a critical foundation for agricultural activities. Third, despite accumulating farming experience, young farmers have not seen any improvement in local living conditions, and rather their difficulties have intensified. Fourth, this study conducted a factor analysis using 21 variables, resulting in the selection of seven common factors for cluster analysis. Consequently, young farmers in Muan County were categorized into three groups. The multinomial logit analysis revealed that the typology of young farmers is influenced by indicators such as cultivated area, farming experience, demand for smart farms, farm income, and farming type (rice cultivation or other). Therefore, to attract young farmers and prevent the decline of rural areas, policy efforts should focus on minimizing entry barriers to farming infrastructure, such as access to farmland, and improving local settlement conditions.

For this purpose, word frequency analysis, TF-IDF evaluation and semantic network analysis were performed using web crawling technology. In word frequency analysis, 'agriculture', 'education', 'support', 'farmer', 'youth', 'university', 'business', 'rural', 'CEO' were important words. In the TF-IDF evaluation, the key words were 'farmer', 'dron', 'agricultural and livestock food department', 'Jeonbuk', 'young farmer', 'agriculture', 'Chonju', 'university', 'device', 'spreading'. In the semantic network analysis, the Bigrams showed high correlations in the order of 'youth' - 'farmer', 'digital' - 'agriculture', 'farming' - 'settlement', 'agriculture' - 'rural', 'digital' - 'turnover'. As a result of evaluating the importance of keywords as five central index, 'agriculture' ranked first. And the keywords in the second place of the centrality index were 'farmers' (Cc, Cb), 'education' (Cd, Cp) and 'future' (Ce). The sperman's rank correlation coefficient by centrality index showed the most similar rank between Degree centrality and Pagerank centrality. The KNCAF articles of Naver News were used as important words such as 'agriculture', 'education', 'support', 'farmer', 'youth' in terms of word frequency. However, in the evaluation including document frequency, the words such as 'farmer', 'dron', 'Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs', 'Jeonbuk', and 'young farmers' were found to be key words. The centrality analysis considering the network connectivity between words was suitable for evaluation by Cd and Cp. And the words with strong centrality were 'agriculture', 'education', 'future', 'farmer', 'digital', 'support', 'utilization'.

  • This study attempted to find a way to utilize idle spaces in rural areas as a way to respond to rural extinction. Based on the keywords "startup," "youth start-up," and "youth start-up+rural," start-up+rural," the study sought to identify the perception of idle facilities in rural areas through the keywords "Idle facilities" and "closed schools." The study presented basic data for policy direction and plan search by reviewing frequency analysis, major keyword analysis, network analysis, emotional analysis, and domestic and foreign cases. As a result of the analysis, first, it was found that idle facilities and school closures are acting importantly as factors for regional regeneration. Second, in the case of youth startups in rural areas, it was found that not only education on agriculture but also problems for residence should be solved together. Third, in the case of young people, it was confirmed that it was necessary to establish digital utilization for agriculture by actively starting a business using digital. Finally, in order to attract young people and revitalize the region through best practices at home and abroad, policy measures that can serve as various platforms such as culture and education as well as startups should be presented in connection with local residents. These results are significant in that they presented implications for youth start-ups in rural areas by reviewing start-up recognition for the influx of young people as one of the alternatives for the use of idle facilities and regional regeneration, and if additional solutions are presented through field surveys, they can be used to set policy goals that fit the reality.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the agricultural management characteristics of young farmers and to analyze the factors affecting the sales of agricultural products of young farmers. For the analysis, variables related to characteristics of agricultural managers and farm management were used, and cross tabulation analysis and multinomial logistic models were applied. The results show that young farmers have the advantages of high education attainment, high income, crop selection, large size of farmland and high utilization rate of information technology. However, the low rate of specialized farming, passive participation in producer organizations, and low availability of agricultural machinery can be disadvantages. Reflecting the characteristics of young farmers, policies should be established to make use of their strengths and to make up for their weaknesses.
