Effectiveness Analysis of Lane Balancing in Urban Areas (도시부 주행 차로수 일치에 따른 효과 분석 - 국도32호선 대전광역시 통과구간 대상 -)

  • Traffic demand is continuously increasing due to the development of urban areas in Korea. To cope with this, many efforts have been done including constructions of new roadways and increasing the number of lanes of the existing roadways. Those efforts, however, have been performed for only a short segment of target links having similar traffic characteristics. As a result, most urban cities experience bottle-neck phenomena which lead decreasing flow speed and increasing possibilities of accidents. Thus, this study aims to analyze problems of bottle-neck phenomena and effects of balancing number of lanes along the same corridor having similar traffic characteristics. For this, Route 32 passing the city of Daejeon in Korea has been selected as a case study, and a micro-simulation tool, VISSIM, has been adopted for the analysis. The results show that balanced number of lanes along the same corridor with similar traffic characteristics can increase flow speeds and enhance safety.

The Refinement Effect of Foreign Word Transliteration Query on Meta Search (메타 검색에서 외래어 질의 정제 효과)

  • Foreign word transliterations are not consistently used in documents, which hinders retrieving some important relevant documents in exact term matching information retrieval systems. In this paper, a meta search method is proposed, which expands and refines relevant variant queries from an original input foreign word transliteration query to retrieve the more relevant documents. The method firstly expands a transliteration query to the variants using a statistical method. Secondly the method selects the valid variants: it queries each variant to the retrieval systems beforehand and checks the validity of each variant by counting the number of appearance of the variant in the retrieved document and calculating the similarity of the context of the variant. Experiment result showed that querying with the variants produced at the first step, which is a base method of the test, performed 38% in average F measure, and querying with the refined variants at the second step, which is a proposed method, significantly improved the performance to 81% in average F measure.

  • 본 논문은 RELUX를 이용해 도로조명 중에서 일반간선도로 및 고속화 도로설계에 주로 사용되는 마주보기와 지그재그 배열을 시뮬레이션 하는 실험 논문이다. 1차로 Starts an Artificial Light Calculation 시뮬레이션 분석을 하여 비교분석하였고 2차 General 시뮬레이션 분석 결과 값이 거의 일치 하게 나왔다. 배열이 달라도 차이가 없음을 확인하였다.

The Effect of Rain on Traffic Flows in Urban Freeway Basic Segments (기상조건에 따른 도시고속도로 교통류변화 분석)

  • An earlier study of the effect of rain found that the capacity of freeway systems was reduced, but did not address the effects of rain on the nature of traffic flows. Indeed, the substantial variation due to the intensity of adverse weather conditions is entirely rational so that its effects must be considered in freeway facility design. However, all of the data in Highway Capacity Manual(HCM) have come from ideal conditions. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the effect of rain on urban freeway traffic flows in Seoul. To do so, the relations between three key traffic variables(flow rates, speed, occupancy), their threshold values between congested and uncontested traffic flow regimes, and speed distribution were investigated. The traffic data from Olympic Expressway in Seoul were obtained from Imagine Detection System (Autoscope) with 30 seconds and 1 minute time periods. The slope of the regression line relating flow to occupancy in the uncongested regime decreases when it is raining. In essence, this result indicates that the average service flow rate (it may be interpreted as a capacity of freeway) is reduced as weather conditions deteriorate. The reduction is in the range between 10 and 20%, which agrees with the range proposed by 1994 US HCM. It is noteworthy that the service flow rates of inner lanes are relatively higher than those of other lanes. The average speed is also reduced in rainy day, but the flow-speed relationship and the threshold values of speed and occupancy (these are called critical speed and critical occupancy) are not very sensitive to the weather conditions.

  • This study investigates the effect on automobile traffic flow of the bike lane configuration via the road diet implemented in Nam-Gu, Busan using the microscopic simulator TransModeler. The results show that the increases in average delay time and stopped time experienced by automobile vehicles after implementing the road diet during the peak period are significant, but those during the non-peak period are insignificant at alpha=0.1. The results in peak period are consistent with the results of the past studies, which concluded that a road diet can contribute to deteriorating the level of service when the automobile traffic flow rate on the existing roadway is relatively high. For the non-peak period, the analysis results may reflect the fact that the automobile traffic flow is not severly affected by the road diet due to the reserved capacity.

  • This study is to investigate the effects of driving anger and traffic congestion on drivers' behaviors. Driving anger is the propensity to become angry while driving, and people differ in the tendency to get angry when encountering frustration and provocation on the road. Individual differences of the propensity contribute to anger on the road and aggressive driving leading traffic vaiolations and accidents. In the experiment three traffic conditions (an open road condition, a bumper-to-bumper traffic condition and a being stuck behind a slower driver condition) were simulated and driving behaviors were collected with RTSA-DS(Road Traffic Safety Authority-Driving Simulator). The results were as follows: Most of high anger drives drove at higher speeds in an open road condition, and in the bumper-to-bumper condition they drove faster and had an higher crash rate, which suggests they did aggressive driving, and risky and unsafe behaviors.

A study on chemical vapor deposition process for the proparation of thin SiC films (실리콘 카바이드 박막 제조를 위한 증착 반응연구)

  • 무정형 SiC 박막을 수평형 CVD반응기로부터 SiH$_{4}$ 및 H$_{2}$를 반응기체로 하여 실리콘 웨이퍼위에 증착시켜 제조하였다. 박막 성장 속도는 상압에서 650.deg.C와 850.deg.C범위에서 측정되었다. 반응기체의 유량은 1000sccm으로 고정하였으며 SiH$_{4}$와 CH$_{4}$의 유량을 변화시켰다. 증착 반응속도식으로 표면 반응이 율속단계인 Eley-Rideal 모델과 SiH$_{4}$와 CH$_{4}$의 종도에 m차로 비례하는 두가지 속도식을 가정하였다. 증착시간에 따른 SiC 박막두께의 측정으로부터 얻은 증착 반응 속도로부터 회귀 분석법에 의하여 두가지 반응속도식의 반응속도 상수를 구하였다. 얻어진 반응속도식에 의해서 계산된 값과 실험치를 비교한 결과 0.15차의 반응속도식이 Eley-Rideal반응기구보다 약산 더 잘 맞음을 알 수 있으나 두 모델 다 약간씩 실험결과와 차이가 나고 있다. 이것은 본 실험의 증착 조건의 율속단계가 확산 단계와 표면 반응 단계의 전이영역 즉 본 실험의 증착조건에서 확산속도와 표면 반응속도가 비슷하기 때문으로 생각된다. 또한 Eley-Rideal 반응기구에서 부터 얻어진 SiH$_{4}$ 및 CH$_{4}$의 흡착평형상수 $K_{s}$$K_{c}$ 값을 비교하면 1000K이하에서는 $K_{s}$$K_{c}$ 보다 큰 값을 가지는데 이것은 Gibbs 자유에너지 최소화 방법에서 구한 결과와 일치하였다.

Synthesis of Hectorite by Hydrothemal Method (저온 수열법에 의한 헥토라이트 합성)

  • Hectorite was synthesized by a two-step hydrothermal process from $Mg(OH)_{2}$, water glass (${\sim}30\;wt%\;SiO_{2}$) and Li-compound at $90{\pm}5^{\circ}C$. The product shows excellent dispersion and swelling properties. The mixture of the starting materials was heated in a glass vessel for the first reaction with continuous stirring and the pH of the solution was adjusted to $6{\sim}8$, resulting in the formation of a precursor of hectorite. The excess salt components were washed out from the resulting slurry and then was matured in the glass vessel for the 2nd reaction. Li compound was added during the reaction. After a 10 h retention, the gel of hectorite was formed. The XRD pattern of the synthesized one was coincided with that of natural hectorite and SEM study revealed uniform grains 50 m in diameter. The d001 basal spacing of the product moved from 12 to $17.4\;{\AA}$ after glycolation treatment. The measured value of CEC and the swelling capacity was 90 cmol/kg and $60{\sim}70\;mL/2\;g$, respectively.

A Kinetic Study on the Oxidation of Diphenylmethane under Aliquat 336 Phase Transfer Catalyst (Aliquat 336 상이동 촉매하에서 디페닐메탄의 산화반응에 관한 속도론적 연구)

  • A mechanism for the synthesis of benzophenone from oxidation of diphenylmethane under Aliquit 336 phase transfer catalyst is investigated in this study. The production rate of benzophenone increased with the increasing amount of Allquat 336 and potassium tert-butoxide. At low concentrations of diphenylmethane and oxygen, the reaction order was first with the concentrations of diphenylmethane and oxygen respectively, but it approached to zero order at high concentrations. Tert-butyl alcohol, by-product of the reaction, inhibited the formation of benzophenone. Assessment of minimum pillar width and reinforcement of parallel tunnel using numerical analysis and field monitoring (수치해석과 현장계측을 통한 병렬터널의 최소 필라폭과 보강에 대한 평가)

  • Nationally, tunnel and underground constructions are necessary for the environmental sustainability and the efficient use of land space. For the importance of eco-friendly circumstances, 2-arch or large road tunnel has been designed so far. However, such a 2-arch or large tunnel has problems in terms of cost, constructability, construction period, and maintenance. Therefore, in this study, tunnel behavior and stability of rock pillar according to the pillar width and cover depth for parallel tunnels are investigated by performing FE analysis and using empirical formula. According to the results, Rock pillar is reinforced for distributed vertical load by Tie-Bolt due to unpredicted ground deformation, and the reinforced rock pillar's behaviour from the FE analysis shows a quite good agreement with field measurement. According to ground conditions, if the pillar width of the parallel tunnels is reduced, it can be more efficient in use of the tunnel space compared to previous tunnels.
