A Critical analysis of NCS-based Curriculum (국가직무능력표준(NCS) 기반 교육과정에 대한 비판적 고찰)

  • This article critically examines the backgrounds and meanings of National Competency Standards (NCS) that is employed by Korean colleges for managing performance-based, competency-based curriculum. Findings are as follows: 1) the NCS-based curriculum was primarily adopted to enhance students' business competency for their successes in a competitive job market. 2) NCS is questioned its efficacy to resolve Korean employment issues in a serious economic structure in which a growing number of jobless youth and aged employees and education discrimination are involved. 3) NCS, with its emphasis on the Tyler Rationale and principles of scientific curriculum development, has many criticisms due to its technical approaches to educational processes and needs to be replaced with an alternative paradigm. 4) This article suggests that administrators, policy makers, and educators seek ways to resolve NCS issues considering contextual features of Korean job market and rethinking NCS ideology in the education process. A need for curriculum reconceptualisation is discussed.

The Structural Relationships between Job-Engagement, Self-Esteem, Positive Thinking on Image-Making Efficacy of Beauty Professionals (뷰티 종사자의 이미지메이킹 효능감에 의한 긍정적 사고, 자아존중감 및 직무몰입의 구조적 관계)

  • The image of beauty professionals who have wide contact with consumers is an important factor that can increase satisfaction and loyalty in consumers by exerting a positive influence on them. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of, and relationships among, self-esteem, positive thinking, and job commitment on image-making efficacy in beauty professionals. The method and scope of this study were carried out by theoretical research related to image-making efficacy, positive thinking, self-esteem, job engagement, and survey research with beauty professionals located in Seoul and the Gyeonggi-do area. We used SPSS v. 23.0 and Amos v. 23.0 to analyze demographic characteristics, the coefficient of internal consistency of the survey items, descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and the Sobel Test. The results of the study show that the image-making efficacy of beauty professionals had a positive (+) effect on self-esteem, positive thinking, and job commitment. Second, self-esteem in beauty professionals was found to exert a positive effect (+) on their positive thinking and job commitment. Third, positive thinking by beauty professionals contributed to a positive effect (+) on job commitment. Fourth, the study found that self-esteem and positive thinking mediated the relationship between beauty professionals' image-making efficacy and job commitment.

  • This study analyzed the effect of how much work-family conflict affect on job involvement and life satisfaction and the effect of moderating effect of demographic characteristics in Mongolia SMEs. For these, this study explores theoretical background about work-family conflict(work interference with family conflict, family interference work conflict), job involvement and life satisfaction, then derived research framework and hypotheses from exploration of theoretical background. According to hypothesis testing result, first, work interference with family conflict has negative effect on life satisfaction. Second, family interference work conflict has negative effect on job involvement and life satisfaction. Third, there is not significance of moderating effect of demographic characteristics between work-family conflict and job involvement/life satisfaction. The main implication of this study is to promote leader's change of awareness about work-family conflict management, to institute flexible work arrangements and selective implementation of a maternity leave and a parental leave and to establish an evaluation system.

The Effects of Leader-Member Exchange and Transformational Leadership among High Performer and Low Performer of R&D Professionals (리더-멤버 교환(LMX)과 변혁적 리더십(TFL)이 직무태도에 미치는 영향: 고성과 vs. 저성과 R&D인력 비교)

  • The objective of this study is to identify the characteristics of high performer among R&D professionals and to examine the effects of LMX(Leader-Member Exchange) and TFL(Transformational Leadership) on job satisfaction or organizational commitment. The empirical result shows that; 1) when compared with the low performers of R&D professionals, the high performers have more proactive personality such as risk-taking propensity, self-efficacy, need for achievement, 2) the high performers have more innovative problem-solving style, 3) the impact of LMX and TFL on job satisfaction or organizational commitment is significant and positive, 4) the augmentative effect of TFL over LMX on job satisfaction or organizational commitment exists for low performer but does not exist for high performer. Based on the result, the theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

  • Because of the need of actual performance of education, this study aims to understand how the factors of educational content and organizational characteristics affect organizational commitment and work performance, which are organizational effects, through learning transfer. As a result, task value, job relevance, and organizational compensation had a significant effect on learning transfer, learning transfer had a significant effect on organizational commitment and work performance, and organizational commitment had a significant effect on work performance. In order to increase the learning transfer of education, when specifying the connection with the actual job and strengthening the compensation system of the members, the learning transfer can be increased and eventually connected to performance. Since limited variables are considered, a more representative sample or professional group should be extracted through future research. In future studies, it will be possible to closely grasp the relationship between learning transfer and organizational effectiveness by setting representative samples and specifying variables.

Effects of Service Leadership on Job Satisfaction in Family Restaurant (외식산업에 있어서 서비스 리더십이 직무만족에 미치는 영향 - 패밀리레스토랑을 중심으로 -)

  • The purposes of this study were 1) to analyze the preference of leadership style among ${\lceil}$Transformational leadership$\rfloor$ and ${\lceil}$Service leadership$\rfloor$, 2) to examine the differences of the job satisfaction between the high level of service leadership group and low level of the service leadership group and 3) to testify the hypothesis that the service leadership and its 4 elements (belief, attitude, ability, insight) affect the job satisfaction. The questionnaires were developed to measure the service leadership, the preference of leadership style (transfer-mational leadership and service leadership) and Job satisfaction. The surveys were distributed to 120 managers and employees in the family restaurant in Korea, and 104 questionnaires were responded (response rate: $86.7\%$). The SPSS 12.0 package program was used to conduct the descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, t-test and multiple regression analysis. The result of leadership style preference showed the followers preferred the service leadership $(75.0\%)$ to the transformational leadership $(25.0\%)$. Comparing the job satisfaction of high level of service leadership group and that of low level of service leadership group, the job satisfaction of high level of service leadership group was significantly (p<0.001) higher than that of low level of service leadership group (high level of service leadership group: 4.03, low service leadership group: 3.27, measured on a 5-point likert scale). All three factors of job satisfaction (human factor, service system and company image) in high level of leadership group were significantly (p<0.001) higher than those of lower level of service leadership group. The result of multiple regression analysis presented that the service leadership and it's 4 elements (concept, mind, skill, insight) have significant (p=0.000) effects on the job satisfaction. As a conclusion, we examined theoretical framework of service leadership model and testified the applicability in the field of family restaurants. But the service leadership was the new conceptual theory, so there should be the more empirical studies on managers and employees in the service industry.

The Study about the Job Satisfaction and Independent Establishment of Physical Therapy of Working Physical Therapist in Gyeongnam Region (경남지역 물리치료사의 직무만족도 및 자립개설에 대한 조사연구)

  • This study aimed to suggest basic data required to improve the awareness of physical therapy and examine physical therapists' awareness of the independent establishment of physical therapy clinics. To do so, 175 physical therapists in Gyeongnam areas were surveyed. Their general characteristics were statistically analyzed using SPSS 10.0, and their current workplace, working conditions and job satisfaction were analyzed using chi square distributions. The awareness of independent establishment was analyzed using the Excel program. The statistical significance (a) in this study was set at 0.05. Their interest in physical therapy was surveyed by gender, and 52.2% of males showed interest, higher than that of females. The satisfaction level of those who work in general hospitals with self-development was 32.8%, higher than that of those who work in clinics. To the question about independent establishment, 83.4% agreed to independent establishment, and 57.5% answered that the first thing to do before independent establishment is acquiring professional theoretical knowledge and clinical treatment skills. In terms of the areas of establishment, 45.2% answered physical therapy for the musculoskeletal system, and 39.7% answered that the awareness of doctors is the biggest obstacle to independent establishment. It will be necessary to ensure physical therapists acquire professional theoretical knowledge and clinical treatment skills and to improve awareness between physical therapists and doctors. In addition, it is considered that departments related to physical therapy need to be unified as a four-year course, and the independent establishment of physical therapy clinics is required to be legalized.

Effect of Customer Orientation on Employees' Satisfaction - Focusing on the Telemarketer of the Hotel and Insurance Company - (고객지향성이 종업원 만족에 미치는 영향 - 호텔과 보험사의 텔레마케터를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to verifying the differences of the customer-orientation according to the business characteristics and the relations between customer-orientation and employees' satisfaction focused on the two groups of the service business. The results of the analysis are as followings : The customer-orientation of two groups are very similar to each other because of the job characteristics of the telemarketers. And only the difference of the real customer-orientation factors is significant on the relations between customer-orientation and employees' satisfaction. The results of the analysis reveal that the controls and the efforts of the telemarketers on the real customer-orientation factors are necessary. This study is meaningful because it brings the practical importance of the telemarketing and expands the scope of the study connecting the importance of the customer-orientation theories.

Antecedents of Exploration Activities: Focused on Internal Ffactors (탐험활동의 선행요인: 기업 내부특성을 중심으로)

  • In order to identify the antecedents of organization's exploration activities, this study focuses on internal factors. There are many theoretical and empirical studies for an organization's exploration activities, while the research on antecedents is limited. This study is aimed at the manufacturing industry in Korea from 1998 to 2012 using data from 15 years of slack, ownership structure, and TMT diversity. The study examined the impact of these firm-specific factors on firm's exploration activities. As a result, a company's exploration activities and slack have positive relationship. Between insider ownership and exploration activities, the hypothesis was not supported. Also, the relationship between TMT diversity and exploration activities was dismissed. Finally, based on the results of this analysis, the contribution of this study, limitations and implications are drawn.

A Study on Influence of Foodservice Managers' Emotional Intelligence on Job Attitude and Organizational Performance (급식관리자의 개인적 감성지능이 직무태도 및 조직성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The purposes of this study were to: a) provide evidence concerning the effects of emotional intelligence on job outcomes, b) examine the impacts of emotional intelligence on employee-related variables such as 'job satisfaction', 'organizational commitment', 'organizational performance', and 'turnover intention' c) identify the conceptual framework underlying emotional intelligence. A survey was conducted to collect data from foodservice managers (N=231). Statistical analyses were completed using SPSS Win (16.0) for descriptive analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, t-test, correlation analysis, cluster analysis and AMOS (16.0) for confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The concept of emotional intelligence (EI) has been on the radar screens of many leaders and managers over the last several decades. The emotional intelligence is generally accepted to be a combination of emotional and interpersonal competencies that influence behavior, thinking and interaction with others. The main results of this study were as follows. The four EI (Emotional Intelligence) dimensions correlated significantly with age. The means of job satisfaction score were above the midpoint (3.04 point) scale. The organizational commitment score was above the midpoint (3.41 point) scale and was higher at 'loyalty' factor than 'commitment' factor. The means of organizational performance score were above the midpoint (3.34) scale. The correlations among the four EI (emotional intelligence) factors were significant with job satisfaction; organizational commitment, organizational performance and turnover intention. The test of hypothesis using structural equation modeling found that emotional intelligence produced positive effects on job attitude and job performance. Emotional intelligence enhanced organizational commitment, and in turn, managers' attitude produced positive effects on organizational performance; emotional intelligence also had a direct impact on organizational performance. This study has identified the effect of emotional intelligence on organizational performance and attitudes toward one's job.
