The process of modernization of Geomundo during Japanese colonial period : focused on social structure (일제강점기 거문도 근대화 과정 -사회구조를 중심으로 -)

  • This paper analyzed the process of modernization in terms of the social structure in Geomundo. Before modernization, social structure in Geomundo was traditional society by a village unit. A village had community rituals and organization. There were independent parallel spatial structure among villages. In the early Japanese colonial period, 'forced modernization' had been occurred by Japanese immigrants settling in a separate living space. The modernization was transplanted in a new established village and diffused into other villages. In the process of forced modernization, the connection among villages was reinforced, as the result of that modern social organization was emerged, and the characteristics of community rituals had been changed. During modernization indigenization period, advanced fishery technology and distribution system occurred capitalist production system helping to place modern norms in the general daily life. In the late Japanese colonial period, aided organizations from local government and informal organizations reversed the trend of modernization through helping colonial exploitation policy. The spatial structure in Geomundo had become to hierarchical structure with intensified connectivity as the result of extensive spread of community territory. Modernization in Japanese colonial period was 'forced modernization' and could not re-established the community spirits. The community spirit has been broken up by dissolving the existing self regulating and self motivated organization.

A Study on the Activation Factors of Voluntary Community Activities in Neighborhood Parks - Based on the People Who Love Chamsaem in Sejong City - (근린 생활권 공원에서의 자발적 공동체 활동의 활성화 요인에 관한 연구 - 세종시 '참샘을 사랑하는 모임'을 대상으로 -)

  • Recently, urban parks are required to actively participate with residents in order to strengthen social functions and maintain sustainable management. This study analyzed the formation process of volunteer resident groups (Chamsamo) in the neighborhood parks in which local residents can participate in an ongoing basis based on the solidarity of a daily living space. The important factors in the activation of resident activity are derived from 5 aspects including resources, local area, resident group capacity, resident group role, and public support. The results of the study are as follows. 1) Life-friendly resources: It was important to find life-friendly resources such as 'Chamsaem' in the park. The combined resources of continuous human activities provided various benefits to the residents. This has led to stronger attachment and community activities to continue to utilize attractive resources in the park. 2) Sharing Common Daily Spaces and Expansion: As the Chamsamo activities were centered around the neighborhood, the network of activists in the local community expanded. This led to continued resident interest and favorable participation as well as to the regional expansion of Chamsamo activities. 3) Park management as part of everyday life: Park management became a part of everyday life, and pleasant park management was facilitated by utilizing the talents of the residents, who carried out diverse activities and constantly streamlined their hard labor. 4) Chamsamo's Leadership Linking Residents and the Public Sector through Leading Park Management Activities: Chamsamo served as a middle leader in linking the public sector and its users. 5) Role and Support of the Public Sector: In order to be able to sustain the activities of residents, the government's willingness to support the resident-led activities of the park in planning and operating the public sector was required. In the public management system of the park, support for residents' activities such as financing, education, and consulting was necessary.

  • 현재 우리는 급속한 정보화.세계화 물결의 혼란 속에서 인간이 존엄성과 가치 및 공동체적 삶의 가치를 미처 정리하지 못하고 참다운 삶의 방향 감각을 상실한 채 살아가고 있다. 가치 창조적 삶의 의미를 망각한 우리 사회는 물질만능과 즉흥적이고 쾌락적.감성적인 행동에 의해 지배되고 있으며 이로 인하여 생명의 경시풍조와 인간소외 현상이 만연되어가고 있다. 이러한 가치관의 혼란과 비복지적 현실 가운데 우리는 우리의 삶, 우리의 후손교육, 우리의 가정과 지역사회 이대로 좋은 것인가\ulcorner 라는 자성적 질문과 함께 미래지향적인 삶과 사랑으로 더불어 사는 공동체 사회를 지향하여 온 국민이 더불어 할 일이 또 하나 있음을 깨닫게 된다. 현대인에게 있어서 자원봉사는 선행이 아니라 권리의 행사이다. 왜냐하면 자원봉사를 통하여 어떻게 살아야 할 것인가\ulcorner 라는 근본 물음에 대한 정답을 얻을 수 있기 때문이다. 이러한 시점에서 청소년에 대한 볼런터리즘(voluntarism)교육은 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 본 논문에서는 1995년 5.13교육 개혁으로 의무화된 중.고등학교 학생들의 자원봉사화동을 재 조명하여 보고, 청소년 문제 해결을 위한 자원봉사 활성화 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

  • This study categorized the viewpoint of cooperation between schools and communities into marketability and publicness, and the viewpoint of school education and lifelong education. The perspective of school education consider to utilize local resources for the growth of students. The lifelong education perspective sees cooperation between schools communities to support the learning of residents. While the marketability perspective pursues individual choices and diversity of opportunities, the publicness perspective focuses on ensuring citizens' right to learn and evenly distributing learning opportunities. From the point of view of school education, it seeks to utilize local resources for the growth and development of students, and in the view point of lifelong education schools are understood to support the learning activities of residents. Cooperation between schools and communities could be presented by categorizing them into private organization-led, educational authorities-led, and provincial authorities-led depending on the subject of the promotion. Recently, local governments and educational governments, schools and communities are developing to a stage where they cooperate to realize the vision of a educational community. For the cooperation between schools and communities the local community, cooperation between local government and educational government and the harmony between publicness and marketability are emerging as tasks.

  • Recent accidents in school environment involving violence, and bullying indicate that school safety is exposed to a serious threat to community well-being. Such incidents come as big problem because various policies and programs have widely long been implemented in order to protect the school environment. Thus, it is critical for the local community and goverment to develop measures for prevention. However, some of the incidents are misrepresented because school environment still remains as one of the safest settings. The current study discusses successful case studies of education, policies and projects regarding school violence and safety that are enforced in many other nations. One of the most practical and concrete means of pursuing an improved level of school safety is for the local community to be actively involved in the process. And one of the key factors for the success of international programs was that it was very much an integrative approach involving a joint effort with the local communities, accompanying a strong tie between the school and its surrounding context.

The Effects of college students' sense of community on their psychological well-being: The mediating effect of emotional intelligence (대학생의 공동체 의식이 심리적 안녕감에 미치는 영향: 정서지능의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of emotional intelligence on college students' sense of community and psychological well-being. Accordingly, a survey was conducted targeting 267 college students attending universities in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions. For data analysis, the SPSS 21 program was used to check the general characteristics of the survey subjects, the mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis of the main variables. Correlation analysis was performed to check multicollinearity among the main variables, and mediation effects were examined. For this purpose, regression analysis was conducted according to the three-step verification method proposed by Barron and Kenny.The results of this study were as follows. First, college students' sense of community was found to have a significant impact on their psychological well-being. Second, the sense of community perceived by college students was found to have a significant impact on emotional intelligence. Third, emotional intelligence was found to have a significant impact on psychological well-being. Lastly, emotional intelligence was confirmed to have a partial mediating effect in the relationship between college students' sense of community and psychological well-being. Lastly, emotional intelligence was confirmed to have a partial mediating effect in the relationship between college students' sense of community and psychological well-being. Accordingly, we strive to find and implement various ways to increase the sense of community that is closely related to the emotional intelligence skills and social participation of college students in the special situation of college, so that college students can form and sustain a happier and more satisfying life.   • This study investigates the role of church communities in elderly welfare in Korea after the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this research is to explore how church communities can contribute to the well-being of elderly beneficiaries, enabling them to lead more stable and happy lives. It aims to establish efficient elderly welfare networks involving the government, local authorities, community organizations, and churches. The research approach involved qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews with senior pastors and ministers in charge of elderly welfare at various churches. The data collected from these interviews served as the primary source, supplemented by a one-year assessment of elderly welfare programs as the secondary data for analysis. The study highlights the significance of utilizing the role of church communities in elderly welfare to contribute to the advancement of elderly welfare in Korea, even in difficult situations like the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • The article attempts to explore community change perceived by participants result from The Integrated Program for Infant and Young Children, a program operated by the Community Chest. The participants expressed and shared their experiences through photos and discussions using the Photo-voice method under the theme of 'community life, its meaning and change'. The main themes were 1. In the past, 'community life,' non-meaningful space; 2. Now, we have shared identity, 'You are not alone'; 3. Our village which is a new place in my life. The article also may suggest issues on both community intervention for early children development program and organization for fosterers as social capital. Additionally, photo-voice method enabled participants to find the way to restructure their community from non-place to place. There were three stages, the first was to reflect on their community, the second was to re-inhabit in the community, and the last was to restore the community.

  • The concept of community capacity is regarded as the ability of people and communities to do works associated with the determinant factors and indicators of the circumstances of socio-economic, environmental and physical contexts. Building capacity of communities to effectively analyze our problematic issues and planning of community development is often required to scrutinize current status of community of socio-economic and infrastructural capacity development with GIS. We consider community development as a planned effort to build assets that increase the capacity of communities. Spatial asset mapping is the process enabling to identify and make inventories of tangible and intangible assets. This mapping requires developing a capacity inventory that collects individual organizational and community capacities in view of human, socio-cultural, natural, financial, digital, and physical capacity. The purpose of this research is not only designed to suggest a new concept capacity building, but also proposes a more creative framework of asset-based community cap linking to parcel-based spatial asset mapping and capacity mapping process.
