A flexible pipe was buried 10cm below the ground formed with standard sand to observe changes in the shape of the pipe according to the behavior of ground at each relative density. Changes in the shape of the pipe in each ground were observed to examine the behavior of the pipe under the state of reinforced ground after installing geogrid under the pipe. Ground reinforced using geogrid formed tensile force on the reinforcement material with increase in the vertical load and showed reduction in settlement under identical vertical load with existence of reinforcement. Distributions of ground deformation of 100% relative density and 70% relative density had clear difference. Reinforced ground with 70% density converged to the ground reaction of final settlement of non-reinforced ground with 100% density at final settlement of 100 mm. Because the shape of lower part strain of the buried pipe is similar to that of un-reinforced ground with relative density of 100%, reinforcement effect by geogrid in soft ground can be anticipated.

The behavior of earth retaining structure was investigated by considering coupling between soil springs in elasto-plastic soil. For the computation of soil reaction, soil on both sides of walls was simplified as e1asto-plastic springs, and the required horizontal displacement to mobilize Terzaghi's active and passive state was applied to construct the p-y curve. Reliability on computer program developed is verified through the comparison between prediction and in-situ measurements. Based on the results obtained, it is found that the prediction by using coupling between soil springs simulates well the general trend observed by the in-situ measurements. It is also found that the horizontal displacement required for the active state gives a very small effect to the displacement of walls in the sandy soil.
In this study, a series of centrifuge shaking-table tests for a $3{\times}3$ group pile and a single pile applied by sinusoidal wave was performed in dry sand for various pile spacings, ranging from three to seven times the pile diameter. A comparison of centrifuge tests of both single pile and group pile showed that the lateral ground response of the group pile was smaller than that of the single pile. In addition, the reduction in subgrade reaction for the group pile increased with decreasing pile spacing. The side piles, that is, the 1st row and 3rd row piles showed identical dynamic p-y behavior and the center pile in the 2nd row caused a lower reduction effect compared with the 1st and 3rd row piles. From the comparison between the p-y curves of the 2nd row piles, it was found that the lateral ground response of the outer pile in the 2nd row was less than that of the center pile in the 2nd row. The p-multipliers for the side piles, for the center pile and for the outer pile ranged from 0.28 to 0.77, from 0.55 to 1.0 and from 0.39 to 0.87, respectively.
Two test methods, nonrepetitive plate loading test (NPLT) and repetitive plate loading test (RPLT) are being used to control the quality of compaction through the evaluation of the stiffness of subgrade soils in the Korea railway industry. Subgrade reaction modulus ($k_{30}$) from the NPLT and strain modulus ($E_v$) from the RPLT are the index values to check them. The methods have similar aspects, but they differ in the modulus evaluation method, the numbers of loading stage, termination procedures, etc. This paper analyses the differences of the two test methods and evaluates the relationship between subgrade reaction modulus and strain modulus. In order to develop the relationship, total 22 tests were performed including the NPLT and the RPLT at the 6 original grounds, and 5 upper or lower subgrades in Kyungbu High Speed Railway II stage construction sites. According to the soil conditions, the relationship between subgrade reaction modulus and strain modulus was proposed with corrections by considering strain states, mean confining pressures, and Poisson's ratio.
This paper describes the earthquake risk evaluation of 15 sites of architectural heritages, which are considered ground conditions of sites in Seoul. In order to acquire the input data of earthquake response analysis, surface wave exploration was performed at the site. Earthquake response analysis and 3D earthquake safety evaluation were carried out under the base of scenario earthquakes. Ground displacements of areas, which are located on architectural heritages, are showed about 0.5 mm ~ 9.7 mm, and it was analyzed to small affected by earthquakes. In case of Naksungdae three-story stone pagoda, ground displacement is similar to the others. However, displacement of three-story stone pagoda with granite is 30 mm on the top, because the greatest occurrence of that is caused by stress release at seismic wave effect.

A method analizing contact pressure between plate and elastic half space is presented by using F.E.M. With the method, the pressure intensities at surface nodes of half space cae be directly calculated by using flexibility matrix of half space. The method is originally presented by Y.K. Cheung et al.(3) Insted of Y.K. Cheung's method, which use a conception of equi-contact pressure area around each surface nodes of half space in the noded rectanqular element area. We use the equi-contact pressure area around the Gaussian integration points of half space surface in the noded isoparametric element area. Numarical examples are presented and compared with other's studies.

Since the composite ground design method is easy to apply for calculation or numerical analysis, it is applied to the design of cement mixing methods. However, the comparison studies between analysis and actual results such as a trial test and construction for the cement mixing method are few because the composite ground design method was developed for the compaction pile (SCP, GCP) methods. In this study, the results of various analysis methods, such as the composite ground analysis method (1 case) and the individual pile method (3 cases), were compared with actual measurements through a two-dimensional finite element numerical analysis. In case of the surface settlements, the results of study show that the individual plate method was larger than the actual measurements, while other methods are similar. The settlements at the under ground of the improved area is overestimated in all analysis methods. When comparing numerical analysis results for the horizontal displacement, and ground reaction forces, the individual pile method in equivalent wall concept was found to be the most similar to the measurements. The composite ground method was not able to predict the behavior of stress transfer (Arching effect) and it turned out that the prediction of horizontal displacement was too large.

In this paper, the Coefficient of Subgrade Reaction was analyzed from the data which were the results of lateral pile loading tests and pressuremeter tests on construction sites. The prediction method with N-value was compared with lateral pile loading tests and the results of lateral pile loading tests were compared with the prediction method considering diameter of a pile. Also, the results of lateral pressuremeter tests were compared with those of lateral pile loading tests. As a result, consideration for a diameter and lateral deformation of a pile was needed when the coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction is presumed. Therefore, a formula which is taking into account the allowable deformation of a pile was suggested from lateral pressuremeter tests in this study.
The load distribution and deflection of offshore piles are investigated by lateral load-transfer curve method (p-y curve). Special attention is given to the soil-pile interaction and soil resistance of 3D wedge failure mode. A framework for determining a hyperbolic p-y curve is proposed based on theoretical analysis and experimental load test results. The methods for determining appropriate material parameters needed for constructing the proposed p-y curves are presented in this paper. Through comparisons with field case studies, it was found that the proposed method in the present study estimates reasonably the load transfer behavior of pile, and thus, the computed pile responses, such as bending moment and lateral displacement, agree well with the actual measured responses.

In this study, the structural analysis is performed on the method of shallow block and deep cement mixing pile, and then their characteristics and associated behaviors were analyzed. In the case of continuous beam analysis, the predicted settlement was very small, and shear force and bending stress are somewhat overestimated. The frame method is similar to numerical analysis in the internal force shallow block and long pile, but because the settlement of pile is underestimated, the additional calculation using the reaction of the long pile is necessary. For soil arching method and piled raft foundation method, the excessive axial force of long pile was predicted because the load sharing of pile is very large compared to the other methods. In the behavior of the shallow block and deep pile method, the settlement of shallow block and contact pressure are much in the center than the edge. In the estimating method considering the interaction between improved material and ground, the load sharing of the soil-cement pile ranges from 20% to 45%, and the stress ratio is 2.0~5.0 less than piled DCM. The maximum member forces at the boundary conditions of pile head are similar, but in fixed head the axial force and vertical displacement are different in accordance with pile arrangement.
