We investigate the potential of digital elevation model and multivariate geostatistical kriging in mapping of temperature and rainfall based on sparse weather station observations. By using elevation data which have reasonable correlation with temperature and rainfall, and are exhaustively sampled in the study area, we try to generate spatial distributions of temperature and rainfall which well reflect topographic effects and have less smoothing effects. To illustrate the applicability of this approach, we carried out a case study of Jeju island using observation data acquired in January, April, August, and October, 2005. From the case study results, accounting for elevation via colocated cokriging could reflect detailed topographic characteristics in the study area with less smoothing effects. Colocated cokriging also showed much improved prediction capability, compared to that of traditional univariate ordinary kriging. According to the increase of the magnitude of correlation between temperature or rainfall and elevation, much improved prediction capability could be obtained. The decrease of relative nugget effects also resulted in the improvement of prediction capability.

This research investigates that role of space-based social capital presented in Dapsimni auto-parts shopping area considering Korean auto-parts industry and the regional characteristics of retailing industrial cluster. For this, it went through the process with in-depth interview and surveys of the owner of Dapsimni, social capital of retailing industrial cluster studied using Lin(1999)'s social capital model by separating formation, accessibility and mobilization of it. The result is that auto-part sellers in Dapsimni make themselves space-based social capital, which provides the profit from certain area: strengthening auto-parts of transaction cost and information exchange among them, creating new market for selling auto-parts. This meant that main factor sustaining the characteristic of retailing industrial cluster despite gradually decline of its role.
In this study, we tried to predict the change of future land-cover and relationships between land-cover change and geo-spatial information in the Gongju area by using fuzzy logic operation. Quantitative evaluation of prediction models was carried out using a prediction rate curve using. Based on the analysis of correlations between the geo-spatial information and land-cover change, the class with the highest correlation was extracted. Fuzzy operations were used to predict land-cover change and determine the land-cover prediction maps that were the most suitable. It was predicted that in urban areas, the urban expansion of old and new towns would occur centering on the Gem-river, and that urbanization of areas along the interchange and national roads would also expand. Among agricultural areas, areas adjacent to national roads connected to small tributaries of the Gem-river and neighboring areas would likely experience changes. Most of the forest areas are located in southeast and from this result we can guess why the wide chestnut-tree cultivation complex is located in these areas and the possibility of forest damage is very high. As a result of validation using the prediction rate curve, it was indicated that among fuzzy operators, the maximum fuzzy operator was the most suitable for analyzing land-cover change in urban and agricultural areas. Other fuzzy operators resulted in the similar prediction capabilities. However, in the prediction rate curve of integrated models for land-cover prediction in the forest areas, most fuzzy operators resulted in poorer prediction capabilities. Thus, it is necessary to apply new thematic maps or prediction models in connection with the effective prediction of changes in the forest areas.

A rapidly developed satellite technology is used in comprehensive fields such as spatial data aquisition and applications. Especially a GPS positioning is expected to reinvigorate at the national reference system changes to ITRF (International Terrain Reference Frame). Currently the National Geographic Information Institute (NGII) issues a triangulation point coordinate by separating old and new coordinates and in the year of 2007 it will be scheduled to be changed ITRF. The triangulation point coordinate in Cheju area causes some problems due to the difference original observation and re-observation. Thus in this study a GPS observation is conducted after re-organizing geodetic network based on 1st and 2nd order triangulation in order to check the current triangulation points in Cheju area. After the GPS observation data analysis, stable points were extracted, proposed a geodetic network and its application.
In a coastal area, a plenty of research has adopted remotely sensed data. This is because longterm interaction between land and ocean makes continuous geographical changes in a broad extent and unaccessible areas. However, conventional remote sensing platforms such as satellite or airplane has several disadvantages including limited temporal resolution and high operational costs. Hence, this study uses a UAV system to detect a coastline and its movement. Result of coastline detection shows how the coastline moves in a day. Time-series coastlines were derived from UAV aerial images through digital image processing. There is a drawback in the stability of UAV compared to the conventional remote sensing platform, but the advantage appears on the economical efficiency. Since the latest studies shows an improvement of UAV for a variety of purposes in many fields, a UAV can also be utilized for regional study and spatial data acquisition platform. geography can also utilize a UAV as a spatial data acquisition platform for regional study.

This study suggests a gateway strategy for transporting agri-food exports to expand exports after examining the patterns of Korean agri-food exports by commodities and the role of export gateways. Korean agri-food exports have increased, but processed food exports have increased significantly compared to fresh agricultural products during the last 17 years. More importantly, Busan port is the main agri-food export hub in Korea. Under these circumstances, this paper examines the determinants of processed cereal-based food (HS 19) exports through Busan port using classification and regression tree (CART) analysis. As a result, the main factors that help to predict the real value of Korean exports are the GDP of the export destination countries, their distances from Korea and their GNI per capita. The destinations of Korean agri-food exports are finally classified into eight groups, which reveals the characteristics of clusters and provides useful insights for the strategies to expand agri-food exports.
Household Register of South Kyongsang Province compiled by the Korean government in 1904 keeps complete details on local houses of eleven out of a total of thirty-one counties in the district. This study examines, band on e analysis of the primary source materials, e specifics of traditional housing of South Kyongsang Province with special reference to the magnitude of housing lots, size of dwellings, land and house ownership, and distribution of thatch and tile roof houses by dong, myon and county. Findings from the survey of the household register suggest that approximately 20 percent of households were established on the private or rented public lands, that 90 percent resided in undersized housing with just one or two rooms besides a kitchen, and that the regional average of dwelling size was no bigger than 2.75 rooms. The fact clarifies that the three-room thatch houses prevailed in South Kyongsang Province about a century ago. The miserable living conditions were tranalated into a constricted personal space of 2 to 4 square meters and a small-size household of less than 4 family members.

A study about UFID for the management and administration of digital map has achieved much progress through the Korea National Geographic Information Institute. But it is ture that the content and process is too complicated to be applied. For overcoming this and to make harmonious management of the object based seamless digital map, we need to develop the method which has the unique feature identifier on the digital map for management and administration. So, we introduce OSID(Object-based Seamless digital map IDentifier) on the object based seamless digital map and apply OSID in the system to manage the digital map. This study is based on the OSID basic structure which is applied in object based seamless digital map and design the structure of OSID system to maintain and manage each feature of the object based seamless digital map.
Recently both the importance and the interests of field-experience learning have kept increasing since the Education of Ministry encourages students to take a field-experience learning with the self-driven and creative education as the main issue in the 7th revised education curriculum in 2009. As the importance of field-experience learning goes up continuously, not only the release of its related mobile applications is increasing, but also a variety of researches for supporting the field-experience learning are ongoing. In this research we perform two things. First, we define the basic concept of authoring tool for which support the field-experience learning based on its characteristics and user requirements analysis. We confirmed that the authoring tool for the field-experience learning has to 1) support all activities that happen in pre-field, field-experience and post-field phases, 2) be possible to write the location-based field work, 3) have the authoring function which reflects the characteristics of curriculum such as history, science and geography, etc. that the field learning can be realized, 4) be designed as the structure that the results of inquiring activity after the field experience activity can be reused. Second, we create a conceptual design after confirming the authoring tool.
