  • The purpose of the present study is to examine effects of anger expression and perceived emotional competence on school anger in adolescents. The participants were 304 high school students (134 males, 170 females). They were administered the anger-related subscales (anger-out, anger-in, and anger control) of the Korean Version of the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI-K), the Korean Version of Trait Meta-Mood Scale (K-TMMS), and the Korean Version of School Anger Inventory(SAI-K). The results showed that school anger positively correlated with anger-out and anger-in, and negatively correlated with anger control and perceived emotional competence. Neither interaction effects of anger-out and perceived emotional competence nor interaction effects of anger-in and perceived emotional competence on school anger were significant. On the contrary, interaction effects of anger control and perceived emotional competence on school anger were significant. The results of post-hoc analysis revealed that the effect of anger control on school anger was significant in the case of high perceived emotional competence but not significant in the case of low perceived emotional competence. Based on these results, it was suggested that psychological programs designed to reduce school anger in adolescents need effective measures to enhance not only anger control skills but also perceived emotional competence.

  • This study aimed to examine effect of perceived competence in generative AI on workers' job insecurity and to investigate the mediating effect of comparative self-evaluation. In addition, we sought th explore the moderating effect of AI literacy on this relationship. To test our hypothesis, we collected survey data from a total of 179 office workers and found that perceived competence on generative AI had a positive effect on job insecurity. We also found the mediation effect of relative self-evaluation on the relationship between perceived competence and job insecurity. However, contrary to our prediction, the negative effect of perceived competence on comparative self-evaluation was strengthened as AI literacy increased, and AI literacy did not moderate the negative effect of comparative self-evaluation on job insecurity. We contributed to theoretical development by identifying the mediating variable the explain the relationship between perceived competence and job insecurity. Moreover, we raised the need for a critical perspective on AI literacy education in organizational management.

  • In a group of 353 elementary students, the present study examined the moderation effects of prosocial behaviors and social competence in the relations between overt/relational aggression and peer status (social preference and perceived popularity). The results indicate that both overt aggression and relational aggression lowered social preference regardless of gender. Prosocial behaviors and social competence did not buffer the negative influence of aggression on social preference. Among boys, overt aggression was a significant predictor of increased perceived popularity. Although inconsistent, relational aggression also predicted boys' perceived popularity. However, among girls, relational aggression, not overt aggression, was associated with perceived popularity. The moderation effects of prosocial behaviors and social competence were significant only among boys. In other words, boys' aggression, although it lowers social preference, contributes to their social influence and dominance when it is effectively combined with positive characteristics. It is necessary to develop new intervention strategies which reflect the adaptive function of aggression within peer groups.

  • In this article, a fairly extensive literature review was conducted to depict the current status of academic motivation and its developmental trend among Korean adolescents. The focal factors were perceived competence and autonomy which have been considered as major determinants of academic motivation. Theoretical frameworks adopted were self-efficacy theory, expectancy-value theory, and self-determination theory. Empirical studies conducted in Korean educational settings during the past decade were the target of the literature review. Results of the literature analysis revealed that, in general, there was a decreasing tendency in perceived competence from elementary to middle school which followed by a slight increase after entering high school. Similar trend revealed in the development of autonomous motivation, in that middle and high school students' intrinsic motivation levels were lower than that of the elementary groups. The amotivational tendency was increased as the grade level proceeded toward high school, which requires attention from educators. Discussion was followed in an attempt to provide plausible interpretations for this undesirable current status of Korean adolescents' academic motivation and to suggest implications for possible remedial actions both in pedagogical perspectives and students' well-being.

  • This research examines the effects of perceived design personality on consumer responses such as attitude toward products and purchase intention. Furthermore, the study analyzes if the design typicality moderates the effects of design personality on consumer responses. The research results found that when consumers are exposed to a typical design, they are more likely to perceive sincerity and ruggedness at a higher level. On the other hand, consumers tend to perceive a higher level of excitement and sophistication, as they are exposed to the atypical design. Besides, competence and ruggedness have positive effects on buying intention in the case of a typical design, while sincerity, excitement, and sophistication have positive impacts on buying intention in the case of an atypical design. Lastly, competence and ruggedness are found to have positive impacts on design attitude more in the typical design than in the atypical design, whereas sophistication showed positive impacts on design attitude more in the atypical design than in the typical design. Additionally, competence has more influence on product buying intention in the typical design and excitement has more effect on it in the atypical design.

  • This research focuses on the perceived marketplace influence(PMI: A belief that recognizes the effect that an individual's actions will have on the behavior of other consumers in the market and thus drives them to act on fair trade consumption) of consumers who may act as a more fundamental explanatory alternative to the gap in attitudes and behaviors of fair trade products. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between consumer's self - determination psychological needs (autonomy, competence, relevance), influence (personal influence, market influence), and the assets of fair trade products. As a result of the empirical analysis, it was found that among the major psychological needs related to self-determination, the variables other than competence and the perceived influence relations of consumers can be directly formed, and the perceived consumer effectiveness(PCE) has a positive influence on perceived marketplace influence(PMI). It is also found that the perceived influence of consumers(PCE, PMI) has an influence on the consumers' perceived equity of Fair Trade products. The results of this study will provide an opportunity to theoretically explain the gap between consumers' attitudes and behaviors of Fair Trade products, which is a part of ethical consumption, and provide important implications for the establishment of marketing strategies.

  • The purpose of current research is to develop insight regarding the relationship between trust in leader and followers' goal orientation. In this study relationships among trust in leader, self-efficacy, and goal orientation are explored. Hypotheses about how the trust in leader affect self-efficacy and goal orientation are developed. The sample consists of 389 workers in a firm who are chosen through the judgement sampling method. Findings are reported from the empirical research that partially support the hypothesized relationships among trust in leader, self-efficacy, and goal orientation. Trust in leader have a significant impact on goal orientation, and it is moderated by self-efficacy. The results suggest that leaders need to make an effort for trust building to have positive goal orientations. The findings of this study have theoretical and managerial implications for leadership, trust, and goal orientation research.

  • The purpose of the present study is to examine how visitors of personal web sites evaluate self presentation styles. We hypothesized that visitors' gender, self construals, and self esteem would influence the evaluation (likeability and perceived competence) of the self presentation styles (bragging or positive presentation). The hypothesized models were tested with structural equation modeling. Gender differences among the constructs were also examined through latent mean analysis. The results revealed that females tended to have higher interdependent self construal than males. And the male and the female students showed higher likeability toward the self presentations of the other gender. Regarding perceived competence, women and men perceived the other gender more competent, and especially, women perceived men's bragging presentation more competent. Self construals and self esteem, however, did not show any significant effects, which were inconsistent with the results of the previous studies conducted with offline self presentation styles. One of the main implications of this study is that visitors' gender, among other things, is the most infueltial factor in perceiving and evaluating others' self presentation through personal web sites.

  • This study investigated the effect of parental attachment on interpersonal competence and psychological well-being of college students. 625 college students completed self-administered questionnaires. Reliability test, ANOVA, Duncan ex-post analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis on data were used. Study results showed that parental attachement and interpersonal competence had significant effects on college students' psychological well-being. Results also depicted gender differences in the relationship of study variables; students' interpersonal competence demonstrated partial mediation effect in the relation of attachment with the same-sex parent and psychological well-being, while complete mediation effect in that of attachment with the opposite-sex parent and psychological well-being, These findings suggest that gender-conscious university policies to promote interpersonal competence among students are greatly needed to ensure psychological well-being of the student population.
