1-Ethyl-6-fluoro-1, 4-dihydro-4-oxo-7-(1-piperazinyl)quinolinea-3-car-boxylic acid-dextran was synthesized by the reaction of 1-ethyl-6-fluoro-1, 4-dihydro-4-oxo-7-(1-piperazinyl )quinoline-3-acryloyl chloride with dextran. Polymeric drug was tested for antimicrobial activity in vitro against ten species of microorganisms. Polymeric drug revealed good antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtillis ATCC 6633, Staphyloccus aureus ATCC 25923, Mycrobactertum phlei IFO 3158, Salmonella typhimurium KCTC 1925, Escherichia coli KCTC 1039, Escherichia coli ESS, Klebsiella puemouiae KCTC 1560 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa IFO 13130. Polymeric drug have no antimicrobial against Candida albicans ATCC 10231, but moderately active Micrococcus luteus ATCC 9341.
The fabrication of flexible electrodes coated on the surface of a dielectric elastomer film, which is a type of electroactive polymer (EAP), was carried out. Controlled amounts of Xylitol powder were added (10, 30, 50 and 70 wt%) to the commercial conductive polymer (PEDOT:PSS) to enhance resilience of the electrode. To check resilience of the fabricated composite electrodes, tensile tests were carried out using silicone films coated with the polymer electrodes. From the test results, it was found that 70 wt% Xylitol containing conductive polymer had excellent elongation and high failure strains. Furthermore, surface of the silicone film was uniformly polished with various abrading papers to enhance the wettability of the conductive polymers on the surface of the silicone film. It was found that the silicone film polished with #120 abrading paper had the best wettability and guaranteed excellent bonding behavior.

The excess molar volumes of a general anesthetics on Purple membrane and Red membrane separated by extraction in Halobacteriun Halobium and in suspensions of vesicle have been determined at $25^{\circ}C$, it was used a excess volume dilatometer. The anesthesia characteristics of general anesthetics, Propofol was fined by our study to correlate with excess molar volume. Excess volume changes of the vesicle measured by excess volume dilatometer, which is an important amino acid and lipid in the purple membrane and red membrane by means of specific weight in Halobacteriun Halobium, were studied by absorption intensity at 280 nm and 330 nm. The particle size analysis and relative turbidity of Purple membrane and Red membrane by means of Propofol were measured for mechanical properties. In the samples where Propofol is incoporated in vesicle, especially, the excess molar volume of PM + RM + Propofol is the greatest than the excess molar volumes of PM, and RM.

The acrylate copolymer having good coating, water-repellent and adhesion properties was designed and prepared. We prepared copolymers with high yield of > 95% using methyl methacrylate(MMA), 2,2,2-trifluoroethyl acrylate (FMA) and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate monomers(HEMA) by either bulk or emulsion polymerization techniques. The $^1H-NMR$ spectrum was used to identify chemical structure and DSC and DMA analysis were conducted. As a result, the glass transition temperature decreased by $3^{\circ}C$ as FMA content increased from 5% to 10%, and decreased by $2{\sim}8^{\circ}C$ when HEMA content increased from 5 % to 10 %. The physical properties were measured using Instron and TGA. As FMA or HEMA content increased by 10%, tensile strength decreased from 29 MPa to 22 MPa and Td decreased from $200^{\circ}C$ to $180^{\circ}C$ in both bulk and emulsion. The contact angle relatively decreased as hydrophilic HEMA content increased.

As a new class of electroluminescent (EL) polymers, PPV-based polymers containing sulfone group in the main chain were synthesized through Witting polymerization reaction to control n-conjugation length and energy levels for predictable light emission and enhanced device performance. These EL polymers showed good solubility in common organic solvents and high thermal stability with initial decomposition temperature of ca. $400^{circ}$ and glass transition temperature around $200^{circ}C$ Emission colors were tuned from green to deep blue by reducing ${\pi}$-conjugated length between sulfone groups. It was also noted from the cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements and semiempirical calculations that sulfone group with high electron affinity effectively lowered HOMO-LUMO energy levels to enhance EL device performance.
Monomer casting nylons were synthesized by casting anionic polymerization of ${\varepsilon}$-caprolactam. Polymerization rates, molecular weights of the products and the conversions were determined while varying the content of catalysts in the range of 0.2~0.6 mol% and 0.1~1.0 mol% for initiator. The polymerization rates were enhanced as the ratio of catalysts to initiator increased. The maximum molecular weight was observed when the ratio of catalysts to initiator was 0.8, and as the ratio increased the molecular weight decreased. On the other hand, when the ratio of catalysts to initiator was below 0.8, the conversions and the molecular weights were abruptly diminished due to the termination of growing chains.
Fluorinated polyurethane elastomers were synthesized by two step polyaddition of a perfluorinated polyether diol(trade name of Fomblin $ZDOL^{\circledR}$) and diisocyanates such as 4,4'-diphenyl methane diisocyanate(MDI) and toluene 2,4-diisocyanate(TDI). In order to control the Fomblin moiety of the soft segment in the synthesized elastomers to 10~50%, polyether type polyols such as polypropylene glycol(PPG) and polytetramethylene glycol(PTMG) were mixed during the polymerization reaction. Ethylene diamine or 1,4-butane diol was used as chain extenders. The structure and average molecular weight of the produced polyurethanes were confirmed by using FT-IR, $^1H-NMR$, DSC, and GPC. The surface properties were analyzed by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and contact angle meter. From the results of the surface analysis it was concluded that the fluorine groups were localized on the surface rather than the inside of the polyurethane films.
Polymer-clay nanocomposite containing the low amounts of clay shows improved physical, mechanical properties. In this study, allyl ester prepolymer was synthesised by reactions of the diallyl terephthalate monomers and the 1,3-butanediol monomers. Nanocomposites of allyl ester prepolymer and the two kinds of the organically layered silicate were prepared by using the intercalation method as well as the in-situ polymerization method using. By varying the amount of clay content, curing conditions, and feeding conditions. the nanocomposite was studied using X-ray diffraction. From XRD results, allyl ester-Cloisite 30 B nanocomposite made by the in-situ polymerization method shows better exfoliation behavior compared with the intercalation method. It can be said that the transesterification reaction between functional groups (-OH) of intercalant and monomers results in the increased gallery distance. Also mechanical and thermal properties indicate that the dispersity of clay is an important factor for improving physical properties of the nanocomposite.

In order to investigate the biological effects of conformational changes in the folding state of bovine ${\alpha}$-lactalbumin (${\alpha}$-La), the protein was prepared and classified as apo form, microbial transglutaminase (MTGase) added form, or bovine ${\alpha}$-La made lethal to tumor cell (BAMLET) form. Apo ${\alpha}$-La form showed weaker cancer cell inhibitory activity (apoptosis) than native ${\alpha}$-La, which suggests that the metal ion-like $Ca^{2+}$ had a positive effect, whereas BAMLET form showed strong cancer cell apoptotic activity. The BAMLET form seemed to be a molten globule structure that increased hydrophobicity. MTGase added to apo ${\alpha}$-La polymer showed similar anti-cancer activity as native ${\alpha}$-La, and it was well hydrolyzed by digestive enzymes. NMR results showed that BAMLET interacted with oleic acid and produced a complex.
Polyarylate(PAR)-nylon 6 block copolymers of various block lengths were prepared by the anionic polymerization of ${\varepsilon}$-caprolactam using the polymeric activator from hydroxy-difuncrtional PAR and toluene diisocyanate. Phase separated morphology of PAR-nylon 6 block copolymer was suggerted from the thermal properties measured by differential scanning calorometry(d.s.c.). Partial miscbility between PAR block and nylon 6 block of the block copolymers was more evident at shorter length of constituent blocks. In binary blends of PAR-nylon 6 block copolymer with PAR or nylon 6 homopolymer, molecular-level mixing of homopolymers with corresponding blocks of block copolymer was supposed from the thermal properties measured by d.s.c..
