Thrust Bearing Design for High-Speed Composite Air Spindles (고속 복합재료 공기 주축부를 위한 추력베어링 설계)

  • Composite air spindles are appropriate for the high-speed and the high-precision machining as small hole drilling of printed circuit board (PCB) or wafer cutting for manufacturing semiconductors because of the low rotational inertia, the high damping ratio and the high fundamental natural frequency of composite shaft. The axial load and stiffness of composite air spindles fur drilling operation are determined by the thrust ben ring composed of the air supply part mounted on the housing and the rotating part mounted on the rotating shaft. At high-speed rotation, the rotating part of the thrust bearing should be designed considering the stresses induced by centrifugal force as well as the axial stiffness and the natural frequency of the rotating shaft to void the shaft from failure due to the centrifugal force and resonant vibration. In this work, the air supply part of the thrust bearing was designed considering the bending stiffness of the bearing and the applied load. The rotating part of the thrust bearing was designed through finite element analysis considering the cutting forces during manufacturing as well as the static and dynamic characteristics under both the axial and con trifugal forces during high-speed rotation.

Fast VQ Codebook Design by Sucessively Bisectioning of Principle Axis (주축의 연속적 분할을 통한 고속 벡터 양자화 코드북 설계)

  • This paper proposes a new codebook generation method, called a PCA-Based VQ, that incorporates the PCA (Principal Component Analysis) technique into VQ (Vector Quantization) codebook design. The PCA technique reduces the data dimensions by transforming input image vectors into the feature vectors. The cluster of feature vectors in the transformed domain is bisectioned into two subclusters by an optimally chosen partitioning hyperplane. We expedite the searching of the optimal partitioning hyperplane that is the most time consuming process by considering that (1) the optimal partitioning hyperplane is perpendicular to the first principal axis of the feature vectors, (2) it is located on the equilibrium point of the left and right cluster's distortions, and (3) the left and right cluster's distortions can be adjusted incrementally. This principal axis bisectioning is successively performed on the cluster whose difference of distortion between before and after bisection is the maximum among the existing clusters until the total distortion of clusters becomes as small as the desired level. Simulation results show that the proposed PCA-based VQ method is promising because its reconstruction performance is as good as that of the SOFM (Self-Organizing Feature Maps) method and its codebook generation is as fast as that of the K-means method.

  • In this paper, the active monitoring and control system is developed. This system can monitor the status of high the speed spindle in real time during its processing, and can analyze its influence of dimensional accuracy and processing if any, and can control the machining condition to realize the machining system equipped with active monitoring and self-diagnostic features. Machining experiment was performed on 3 materials Al, Brass and S45C in order to derive the relation between active monitoring and control algorithm by the machining load. In addition, we measured surface roughness of processing specimen along with the data change of spindle rotating speed and conveying speed according to variation of machining load. Based on these experiments, we derived relations for each material that can be applied to the control algorithm to allow self control of the rotating speed and conveying speed according to the machining load.

  • The recent machine tools are requested so high-quality processing and productivity increasing. Therefore, it is so necessary to develop technology for high-speed and high-precision. This thesis touches on the development of high speed and intellectual line center. At first, the line center is necessary that strong structure, compact structure and light weight design for high-speed processing and transfer. So, it is necessary that examination of new materials and structures for light-weight and control devices for precision processing. So, it is going to make mention of the process of 1st model production for the above-mentioned based on test model production and evaluation.

  • While Built-in Spindle is working in machining center, the tool is changed by ATC(Automatic Tool Changer) automatically. However, impurities could be stacked in front of spindle because of chips formation while machining, and positional error between spindle and tool could be generated. Compressed air holes are necessary for removal of the impurities. But, the diameter and number of compressed air hole are different for each built-in spindle in market. In this paper, flow analysis is carried out to find out the efficient figuration of the compressed air hole by using velocity and pressure distributions.

  • This paper is focused on practical applicability of the optical fiber sensor considering the machine center which is going to use them. Optical fibers may be fluctuated because the machine center operates as column moving type. This causes distortion of the sensor output signal. To reduce this problem, we have improved the sensor structure and its bracket. And we evaluated performances of the sensor.
