  • The feasibility of using the industrial inorganic waste materials such as l~mestone sludge. Soundly sand. coal fly 'ash, and chemical glasses as a raw material for cement clinker by melting treatmeut was iovestigated. The slag wh~ch is obtained from thc melts of the mixtnres of waste materials is composed of P-C,S(ZCaO - SIOJ and C,AS(ZCaO . AI,O, . SiO,) phases. The effect of melting tempcrabre, coaling condition and CIS ratio on the fo~mation of P-C,S phasc was examed. In order to obtain thc P-CiS phase which is useful in thc utilhtion as a clinkcr malcrid, it B found that sudl considerations as low melting temperature as possible of the wastc mixhire, quenching the melts and law CIS ratio of the mlxhlre are necessary.

  • Cytologic findings of pleural effusion in three cases of rhabdomyosarcoma are reported. Case 1 was a pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma which had devoped at the chest wall of an elderly male patient and caused pleural effusion. The cytologic features were consistent with pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma, that was, showing loose clusters, cellular pleomorphism, and abundant finely vesicular cytoplasm. Cases 2 and 3 were embryonal rhabdomyosarcomas in young adults. Primary site was the oral cavity in case 1, but unknown in case 2 and case 3. The effusion cytology was similar in these cases. Clustered or isolated small round cells with hyperchromatic nuclei and scanty cytoplasm were smeared. The cohesiveness of tumor cells was weak and the cells did not show linear arrangement or nuclear melding. Effusion cytology in a sarcoma patient would be diagnostic when the primary site and the type of sarcoma were already known.

  • This study reviewed the capturing performance of a canopy hood used in some melting processes of a casting manufacturing factory through a site survey. In addition, this study compared and evaluated the flow field and pressure field for the plans to enhance the hazardous air pollutants collection capacity by using CFD model. The case-2(flange attached + double hood) can be improved in terms of collection performance, but is expected to increase in hood static pressure by about 70% more than the existing structure, so it was shown that its site applicability is not good. It is judged that the shape of case-3(flange attached + double cone attached) is most suitable to improve the suction efficiency. This is because a double cone is installed at the center of the opening to concentrate the flow rate on the edge of the hood and control the hume rising to the center of the hood without a static pressure rise via the slope of the cone.

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the stiffness of mortar-filled sleeve bar splice using estimation method of failure mode in the sleeve reinforcement splice. To attain this goal, we analyzed the test results of 261 actual-sized mortar-filled sleeve splice specimens. The study results showed that the estimation method of the failure mode in mortar-filled sleeve bar splice made an effective estimate of the stiffness in this bar splice with the exception of specimens with SD500 bars and smooth pipe sleeve. Especially, of the specimens with cast sleeve or uneven pipe sleeve in the range of reinforcement fracture using the estimation method of the failure mode in mortar-filled sleeve splice, specimens over 98% with SD400 bars and all specimens with SD500 bars had the stiffness capacity of higher than "A" class of AIJ code in monotonic loading. In addition, of the specimens in the range of reinforcement fracture using the estimation method of the failure mode in mortar-filled sleeve splice, all specimens with SD400 bars and SD500 bars had the stiffness capacity of higher than "A" class of AIJ code in cyclic loading.

  • The master pattern manufacturing process is one of the most important processes in jewelry industry because the process takes 20% of total jewelry manufacturing costs. The previous jewelry manufacturing process has many steps of "rough design${\leftrightarro}$ detailed drawing${\leftrightarro}$ wax pattern manufacturing ${\leftrightarro}$ lime soda flask mold manufacturing ${\leftrightarro}$ silver master pattern manufacturing ${\leftrightarro}$ mass production of wax pattern ${\leftrightarro}$ investment casting process ${\leftrightarro}$ final jewelry product." A novel process that reduces processing steps by using a rapid prototyping system (RP) has been suggested. The process is "3D CAD design ${\leftrightarro}$ DuraForm mold manufacturing by RP ${\leftrightarro}$ manufacturing master pattern by low melting alloy ${\leftrightarro}$ mass production of wax pattern ${\leftrightarro}$ investment casting process${\leftrightarro}$ final jewelry product." Molds are made with DuraForm powder, of which melting temperature is 19$0^{\circ}C$, by a selective laster sintering type RP. An alloy of Pb-Sn-Bi-Cd, of which melting temperature is $70^{\circ}C$, is casted in the DuraForm molds. Spheres and rings of diameter 20 mm are made by this process. The dimension deformation rate is less than 2%, and the post processing of the castings is convenient. The casting made by the suggested process can be used as a master pattern of jewelry products.of jewelry products.

  • CZS(2Ca0 , SiO\ulcorner) phase of cement clinkcr was obtaincd by melting mixcd four indnstrial wasles of limestone sludge, waste Foundry sand, coal lly ash fiorn power plants and chernicas glasses. The effect ot mixing ratio of four rvastc mater~als ou the composnlg phascs in melled slag was investigated. Thc mixed wastes were meltcd to slag by heat under a constant basicity at 1370C. The shg consisted of p -CIS and C,AS(2CaO - A I P , . SiO,). The ratio of two phases was varied with mixing ~atioo f the waste materials. In order Lo increasc the amount ot j -C2S phase, the coal fly ash content should be reduced, while amount of the chemical glass be increased. The coal fly ash contcnt was the most imporlant factor in controlling phases of thc melted-slag.

  • Since most of the waste plastics are incinerated and landfilled for the plastic treatment, the environmental friendly processes must be introduced. The plastic utilization of plastic to the blast furnace as a substitutional fuel was developed as a useful recycling method of waste plastics, and commercialized in several ironmaking company in Europe and Japan. Present study was carried out to understand the effect of plastic injection on blast furnace process continuously by using the foundry blast furnace in POSCO. The coke replacement ratio turned out to be 0.98 with the waste plastic injection up to 13.8 kg/thm of injection rate, and there were no significant effect of the kinds of injection plastics on the replacement ratio in this test operation. The permeability in the furnace became worse and the heat load in the lower part of blast furnace was increased with increasing the injection rate of waste plastics. As the rate of plastic injection were increased, the top gas utilization and shaft efficiency were also decreased from the Rist diagram analysis.

  • The intension of this study is to produce ordinary portland cement using ash, both bottom ash and fly ash, obtained from municipal solid waste incineration ash (MSWI). We used limestone, waste molding sand, shale, slag from converting furnaces and fly ash as main raw materials and mixed them, setting the lime saturation factor (LSF) within 91.0, the silica modulus (SM) within 2.40, and iron modulus (IM) within 1.80. We conducted tests adding bottom ash alone 1, 2 and 3% by weight, respectively, and a mixture of bottom ash 0.9% and fly ash 0.1 % by weight. The result of analysis on clinker shows that the more ash is added, the lower the burnability index (B.I.) falls, lowering the mineral evolution of calcium silicate accordingly. From the measurement of compressive strength we have learned that the more ash is used, the lower the strength becomes.
