Many electric poles in the softground have been collapsed due to external load. In this study, several tests were performed with variation of numbers and depths of anchor blocks to find effects of anchor blocks on stability of concrete electric poles through earth pressure and displacement analysis. 1.50m depth of anchor block seems appropriate among three kinds of depths. The 2.25m depth of anchor block makes larger displacement due to disturbance caused by excessive excavation. The deeper anchor block, the less earth pressure of passive zone, an active earth pressure gets larger. When two anchor blocks were installed, displacement at top pole decreased 43.8% and 55.6% at ground when 1 anchor block was installed.
This paper first presents the distributions of static lateral earth pressure in case of translational o.all movement (ATRA) , obtained respectively by the Dubrova method and by the method where Chang's idea is applied to the former, acting on the rigid retaining vertical wall with horizontal sand backfill. Total active resultant forces and the points of application of those forces, calculated results by the two methods, are compared with the experimental results recently published by Fang Y.S. and Ishibashi I. A comparative study about the distribution of static lateral earth pressurein each case of rotation about top(AT) and base (AB), on which the writer studied previously, is also conducted along with the above experimental results. The following results are obtained 1) In case of AT and ATRA, the experimental results are in good agreement with the calculated results by the Dubrova's method. 2) In case of AB, the results of the Dubrova's method are very inconsistent with those of model test, where as th method 9.here Chang's idea is applied, corresponds well, even though there is a small deviation.
In this study, the earth pressure, displacement and strain were compared with reinforcement types at segmental retaining wall through full scale model test. The test results found that the measurement of earth pressure and displacement at wall for the fully reinforced retaining wall are different from those for the partly reinforced retaining wall. The analyses of these results would suggest that the used of geoogrid allowed the vertical earth pressure and displacement at wall to be reduced. The horizontal earth pressure in upper and lower part of wall can change with reinforcement type and earth deformation and were larger than the active and the rest pressure. Also, the lateral earth pressure and displacement of wall have a very high a correlation. It was found that the strain contour distribution of reinforcements was occurred a large strain at cental part of wall in segmental retaining wall system.

By investigating the characteristics of various factors about soil and pile containing in the theoretical equations of lateral earth pressures acting on a row of passive piles which have been already presented in the previous. papers, the equations are arranged as a simple form which is convenient to use. The simplified equation is examined so as to be also utilized to single passive pile. And a discussion is carried out on the method how to apply the equations to field. As the result of this study, the equations can be arranged as a simple linear equation with the coefficients of lateral force $K_{p1}$ and $K_{p2}$. And the simple linear equation is composed of cohesion c and earth pressures ${\sigma}_H$ acting on backside of pile's row against the direction of soil deformation. In order to apply this equation to field, the active earth pressure can be considered as the earth pressure ${\sigma}_H$. The validity of this consideration is justified by comparing the theoretical values of lateral earth pressures acting on piles with the values observed in field.
Deep excavation increases utility of underground spaces for high buildings. subways etc. To excavate vertically the underground, safe earth retaining walls and supporting systems should be prepared. Recently anchors have been used to support the excavation wall. The anchored excavation has some advantages toprovide working space for underground construction. In this paper the prestressed anchor loads were measured by load cells which attacted to the anchors to support the excavation walls at eight construction fields. where under-ground deep excavation was performed on cohesionless soils. The lateral pressures on the retaining walls, which are estimated from the measured anchor forces, shows a trapezoidal distribution that the pressure increases linearly with depth from the ground surface to 30% of the excavation depth and then keeps constant value regardless of the stiffness of the walls. The maximum lateral pressure was same to 63% of the Ranking active earth pressure or 17% of the vertical overburden pressure at the final depth The investigation of the measured lateral pressure on the anchored excavation walls shows that empirical earth pressure diagram presented by Terzaghi-Peck and Tschebotarioff could be applied with some modifications to determine anchor loads for the anchored excavation in cohesionless soils.
The usage of Integral abutment bridges has been increased worldwide because of reducing bridge maintenance costs and resisting seismic loads. Although these attributes make the integral abutment bridge an increasingly popular choice, back-abutment interaction issues remain unresolved. Hence, the earth pressure behavior of an integral abutment bridge having 90 m long PSC beam bridge for the first time in Korea was analyzed by conducting long term monitoring in this study. Based on this study, the results were as follows; the ratio of maximum passive movement to the abutment height (H) of 0.0027 and the maximum passive earth pressure coefficient of 4.8 were developed at 0.82H from the bottom of the abutment during summer season. During winter season, the ratio of maximum active movement to H of 0.0011 and the maximum active earth pressure coefficient of 0.7 were developed at the same location as in summer season. The new earth pressure distributions having a trapezoid type were proposed based on this study.

In this study theories of earth pressure such as Rankine, Coulomb, Trial Wedge, Improved Trial Wedge, used in the design for onshore and offshore structures, are analyzed and the characteristics of loaded pressure to virtual back (wall, plane) and wall surface in accordance with the structure type are suggested. To investigate characteristics of earth pressure, gravity retaining wall with inclined angle and cantilever wall with inclined ground are movilized for onshore structures and caisson and block type quay wall are mobilized for offshore structures. Based on various theories, the earth pressure applied angle(wall friction angle) and sliding angle toward the wall, which is influenced by the heel length, are calculated and compared. In the case of long heel, the pressure by Rankine's method in virtual plane and the mobilized angle are most reasonably estimated by the ground slope, and in the case of short heel, the pressure by Coulomb's method and the mobilized angle by the angle of wall friction. In addition, the sliding angle toward the wall estimated by the improved trial wedge method is large than the value of Rankine's method. Finally, in this study the reasonable method for calculating the pressure and the mobilized angle that can be applied to the routine design of port structures is proposed. The proposed method can decide the earth pressure with length of a heel and a self weight of retaining wall according to sliding angle toward the wall.
Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GBFS) is produced in the manufacture process of pig-iron and shows a similar particle formation to that of natural sea sand and also shows light weight, high shear strength, well permeability, and especially has a latent hydraulic property by which GBFS is solidified with time. Therefore, when GBFS is used as a backfill material of quay or retaining walls, the increase of shear strength induced by the hardening is presumed to reduce the earth pressure and consequently the construction cost of harbor structures decreases. In this study, using the model sand box (50 cm$\times$50 cm$\times$100 cm), the model wall tests were carried out on GBFS and Toyoura standard sand, in which the resultant earth pressure, a wall friction and the earth pressure distribution at the movable wall surface were measured. In the tests, the relative density was set as Dr=25, 55 and 70% and the wall was rotated at the bottom to the active earth pressure side and followed by the passive side. The maximum horizontal displacement at the top of the wall was set as ${\pm}2mm$. By these model test results, it is clarified that the resultant earth pressure obtained by using GBFS is smaller than that of Toyoura sand, especially in the active-earth pressure.
In this study, the fifteen month behavior of two geosynthetic reinforced walls which was constructed on the shallow weak ground was measured and analyzed. The walls were backfilled with clayey soil obtained from the construction site nearby, and the safety factors obtained from general limit equilibrium analysis were less than 1.3 in both wall. The measured and analyzed data were horizontal earth pressures, strain of reinforcements, and excess pore water pressures. The used reinforcements were nonwoven geotextile, woven geotextile and geogrid. Although the length of reinforcement was only 30% of wall height and the safety factors of the walls were less than 1.3, the walls were constructed without any problems on the such weak ground. The analysis results showed that the maximum strain of reinforcements were negligible and the strain was between 2.3 and 6.0% according to tensile characteristic of the reinforcements. The excess pore water pressure was not changed due to the rainfall and the horizontal earth pressures in upper and lower part of the walls were larger than the active and the rest pressure.

In this study, to solve a problem that cannot consider the contribution effect of each layers when the apparent earth pressure in homogeneous ground is applied to multi-layered ground, the measured earth pressures at World were investigated and analyzed. It has been confirmed that the apparent earth pressure in mulit-layered ground is different from single ground and that the extra layer's contribution to the earth pressure cannot be considered. The conventional method of calculating the apparent earth pressure for single ground was extended to mulit-layered ground, and proposed and verified the applicable method for both single and mulit-layered ground. The proposed methods predicted the earth pressure closer to the measurements at the excavation depth of 0.1Z/H or below, and the prediction reliability was evaluated to be better than the conventional method. Among the proposed methods, the method of considering the area ratio of the active failure has a geotechnical validity and predicts the most similar results to the actual earth pressure. To confirm the applicability of the proposed methods, it was presented by comparing and analyzing the results of the proposed methods with the conventional method for the actual case.
