  • Recently, the installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems has been increasing due to the worldwide interest in eco-friendly and infinitely abundant solar energy. However, the output power of PV systems is highly influenced by the surrounding environment. For instance, a string of PV systems composed of modules in series may become inoperable under cloudy conditions or when in the shade of a building. In other words, under these conditions, the existing control method of PV systems does not allow the string to be operated in the normal way, because its output voltage is lower than the operating range of the grid connected inverter. In order to overcome this problem, we propose a new control method using a DC-DC voltage regulator which can compensate for the voltage of each string in the PV system. Also, based on the PSIM S/W, we model the DC-DC voltage regulator with constant voltage control & MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) control functions and 3-Phase grid connected inverter with PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) control function. From the simulation results, it is confirmed that the present control method can improve the operating efficiency of PV systems by compensating for the fluctuation of the voltage of the strings caused by the surrounding conditions.

  • Purpose : In the radiosurgery, to obtain CT image to find more accurate tumor position during respiration, and using them, to increase the accuracy of radiation treatment by applying image guided. Materials and Methods : Using the self-made vacuum cushion for the body SRS, CT images were obtained three for each patient during respiration (shallow, inhalation, exhalation). They were transformed to the RTP computer and then were fused. Global GTVs were delineated on the fused images and more appropriated treatment planning was established. Results : We can find the tumor position is moving toward cranio-caudal with max 10 mm margin and volume is transformed. As a result from the comparision of DVH (pre & post radio surgery), we observed about 100% dose to tumor. Conclusion : BSRS was skeptical due to the tumor movement during respiration. More accurate by the combination of the development of immobilization devices and BSRS based on Image Guide, it will be applied to more cases for BSRS.

  • As a 360-degree image carries information of all directions, it often has too much information. Moreover, in order to investigate a 360-degree image on a 2D display, a user has to either click and drag the image with a mouse, or project it to a 2D panorama image, which inevitably introduces severe distortions. In consequence, investigating a 360-degree image and finding an object of interest in such a 360-degree image could be a tedious task. To resolve this issue, this paper proposes a method to find a region of interest and produces a 2D naturally looking image from a given 360-degree image that best matches a description given by a user in a natural language sentence. Our method also considers photo composition so that the resulting image is aesthetically pleasing. Our method first converts a 360-degree image to a 2D cubemap. As objects in a 360-degree image may appear distorted or split into multiple pieces in a typical cubemap, leading to failure of detection of such objects, we introduce a modified cubemap. Then our method applies a Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) network based object detection method to find a region of interest with a given natural language sentence. Finally, our method produces an image that contains the detected region, and also has aesthetically pleasing composition.

  • Trauma from occlusion(TFO) is injury to the periodontal tissue as a result of occlusal forces. Mobility is a common clinical sign of occlusal trauma. In acute occlusal trauma, this may be accomanied by pain, tenderness to percussion, thermal sensitivity, and pathologic tooth migration. Chronic occlusal trauma may be marked by excessive wear and gingival recession. Radiographic finding include a widened periodontal ligament space, radiolucence and condensation of the alveolar bone and root resorption. TFO is related to the pathogenesis of periodontal disease. It can cause increased tooth mobility TFO itself does not initate or aggravate marginal gingivitis or initiate periodontal pockets. Active trauma can accelerate bone loss, pocket formation and gingival recession depending on the presence of local irritants and inflammation. Gingival recession associated with occlusal forces includes traumatic crescent, McCall's festoon and Stillman's cleft. TFO plays a minor role in the pathogenesis of early to moderate periodontitis. A 5-year-old male visited Yonsei University Pedodontics clinic with a chief complaint about gingival recession. Mobility, excessive wear, gingival recession were detected by clinical exam on the both mandibular deciduous ca nine. On the radiographic view, vertical alveolar bone loss was observed on both mandibular deciduous canine.

  • In order for Paldanghomil (winter rye) to be investigated if its grain yield is able to be produced after clipping just before winter season for forage utilization this experiment was carried out under the four sowing dates of four locations in Korea (Chunchon, Suwon, Hwasung and Chungju). In rye clipping plot earlier sowing showed taller plant height, more number of tillers/㎡ and higher forage yield before winter season, indicating the highest forage yield (1803 kg/10a) in Chunchon by sowing of September II. Forage yield of rye before winter season was mainly influenced by plant height and number of tillers/㎡, showing more effect of plant height. Rye plants were more or less affected on winter damages, late heading and short culm by clipping before winter season. Analysis of variance indicated that only number of spikes/㎡ among grain yield components showed the high significance according to the clipping method, and that there showed little variation for other yield components due to the sowing date and clipping method. There showed more grain yield in non-clipping rather than that of clipping plot, indicating the difference of 46kg/10a. This was resulted from short culm and severe winter damages caused by clipping before winter season. Of the grain yield components, number of spikes/㎡ was greatly influenced for grain yield by analysis of stepwise regression. Therefore, grain yield of rye was able to produce after forage utilization before winter season due to the appropriate crop and soil managements, by resulting from the little variation in grain yield between clipping or non-clipping plots and from the higher grain yield by the early sowing.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the environmental management strategy of streams based on the quantified evaluation method of the stream environment. The six streams in Jinju city flowing into the Nam-river were selected for the case study. The stream environment evaluation was performed considering the following three independent field surveys. First, the stream naturalnesses considering 20 evaluation elements were investigated for each unit section of the streams having the length of 500m and the width of 100m, and then were evaluated into 5 grades. Second, water qualities of the streams were evaluated into 5 grades based on the results of eight times water quality survey. Third, the landuse patterns in the stream basins were evaluated into 5 grades according to the residential area ratio. Finally, the stream environments were classified into 5 grades by integrating the above three subfactors - stream naturalness, water quality, and residential landuse. According to the evaluation results of stream environments, the three environmental management strategies of streams were suggested. As the results of the case study, Panmun stream and Ghajwa stream were evaluated to the forth grade that need active environmental restoration, and Nabul stream and Yonga stream were evaluated to the second grade that need partial environmental restoration while Youngchun river and Dogsan stream were evaluated to the first grade showing the desirable stream environmental condition. The above environmental evaluation results for each stream will be an important reference for the further stream restoration or management plan.

  • Fresh water injection test in a fractured bedrock aquifer was applied as an efficient approach to lower saline concentrations in the saltwater-freshwater transition zone formed by seawater intrusion in a coastal area. The methodology and effectiveness of fresh water injection for hydraulically controlling seawater intrusion is overwhelmingly site dependent, and there is an urgent need to characterize the permeable fractures or unconsolidated porous formations which can allow for seawater flow and transport. Considering aquifer characteristics, injection and monitoring boreholes were optimally designed and completed to inject fresh water through sand layer and fractured bedrock, respectively. We devised and used the injection system using double packer for easy field operation and maintenance. Overall fracture distribution was systematically identified from borehole image logs, and the section of fresh water injection was decided from injection test and monitoring. With fresh water injection, the fluid electrical conductivity of the monitoring well started to be lowered by the inflow of fresh water at the specific depth. And this inflow leaded to the replacement of the fluid in the upper parts of the borehole with fresh water. Furthermore, the injection effect lasted more than several months, which means that fresh water injection may contribute to the mitigation of seawater intrusion in a coastal area.

  • Physical characteristics of aggregates affect the workability and strength of mortar and concrete, which include their fineness ratio, particle size distribution and water absorption. The workability of construction materials decreases if the incorporated fine aggregates show improper size distribution of their particles. This study shows the particle size effect on the rheological behavior of mortar and provides basic information for evaluating its workability. A mini-slump flow test was adopted to evaluate the workability of mortar. In addition, its plastic viscosity and yield stress were measured using a rheometer for building materials. The sand samples were prepared by sieving river sand and sorting out with their particle sizes. As a result, it was observed that the fines less than 0.7 mm increases the yield stress and plastic viscosity of the mortar samples. If the fines are less than 0.34 mm, the water absorption of the fines dominates change on the workability.

  • Jigangkooksa's Monument at Beopchonsa is a monument representing the Goryeo Era, registered as the National Treasure No. 59. Haerin was a descent of a small regional clan, who overcame a number of challenges to become the leader of the nation at the age of 75. The tower and monument built after his death are among the finest works of the Goryeo Era. The Yongwha-world of the Jigangkooksa's Monument is the expression of a new utopia, which cannot be found in numerous Buddhist arts including Buddhist holy picture's art or other Codex. After passing through the pillar of cloud where 4 heavenly birds play, the new world of vault unfolds. Below are the 13 mountains which stand for 13th Heaven. In the center stands Tusita, the sky. On the top of Tusita is a Nagapuspa. The Nagapuspa in general has wooden pillars of treasure dragon patterns with dragonhead-shaped flowers on top. On the bottom, indrajala hang down. The Yongwha-world of the Jigangkooksa's Monument is carved with patterns related to Maitreya entering Nirvana. Jigangkooksa was active in the Moonjong Kingdom, the most prosperous times of the Goryeo Era, and led the publication of the Buddhism's Collection of Sacred Writings, the holiest work of the Goryeo people. At the time, people have offered on his tower a picture of him as the owner of Yongwha-world, with the utmost respect. This was the ideal utopia perceived by the people of Goryeo.

  • This paper presents the results of a parametric study on the interaction between buried pipes and surface load using the finite element method of analysis. A series of laboratory model tests were also performed in order to validate the adopted finite element model and to capture essential features of the physical behavior of buried pipes subjected to surface load. In the parametric study, a wide range of boundary conditions were analyzed with emphasis on the response of the buried pipes to surface load. The results of analysis such as contact stress distribution at the soil/pipe interface and axial thrust of the pipe were thoroughly analyzed, and a database on the response of buried pipe under surface load was established for future development of a semi-empirical design/analysis method. The results indicated that the degree of interaction between buried pipes and surface load significantly varies with the vertical and lateral location of pipe with respect to surface load, and that the current design method, which does not consider soil-structure interaction, cannot correctly capture the pipe response to surface loading. Furthermore, based on the results of analysis, a semi-empirical equation was suggested, which estimates the maximum pipe thrust due to surface load for flexible buried pipes.
