  • The Genus Cis Latreille known as fungivorous ciids is taxonomically reviewed for the first time from Korea. Six unrecorded species - Cis boleti (Scopoli, 1763); Cis seriatopilosus Motschulsky, 1861; Cis mikagensis Nobuchi & Wada, 1955; Cis jezoensis Nobuchi, 1960; Cis sasajii Kawanabe, 2001; Cis hieroglyphicus Reitter, 1877- are present. All of Cis members are associated with the fruiting body of higher fungi. The author provides the taxonomical information and the ecological information on the host fungi of the Korean Cis species.

  • This study was conducted to prepare systematic and efficient measures for nature conservation and management in Beomseom Island, and to clarify characteristics of distribution of plant resources in southernmost islands of Korean peninsula. The numbers of vascular plants were summarized as 164 taxa included 6 families, 13 genera, and 15 species in pteridophyta, 1 family, 1 genus, and 1 species in coniferophyta, and 59 families, 126 genera, 146 species, and 2 varieties in endospermae composed of 49 families, 97 genera, 114 species, and 1 variety in dicotyledonae and 10 families, 29 genera, 32 species, and 1 variety monocotyledonae. Unrecorded taxa of the flora of Beomseom Island were 19 taxa included 4 taxa of pteridophyta, i.e. Hypolepis punctata, Cyrtomium fortunei, Dryopteris pacifica, and Thelypteris granduligera, 6 taxa of monocotyledonae, i.e. Setaria viridis, Zizania latifolia, Scirpus triangulatus, Zantedeschia aethiopica, Spirodela polyrhiza, and Dioscorea nipponica, and 9 taxa of dicotyledonae, i.e. Alnus firma, Boehmeria Platanifolia, Aconogonum ajanense, Phytolacca americana, Melandryum oldhamianum var. roseum, Vitis flexuosa, Clerodendron trichotomum, Elaeagnus glabra, and Siegesbeckia glabrescens. The two rare species, Osmanthus insularis that distributed only Jeju-do and Geomoondo Island and Orostachys iwarenge that distributed only southern parts of Jeju-do in Korea were investigated. The numbers of naturalized plants were 20 families, 33 genera, 34 species, and 1 variety.

  • Polygonatum taxa of Korea were classified as two sections, three series and 14 species and 2 varieties and reviewed taxonomically. Among the examined taxa, endemics in Korea were recorded as two species; P. grandicaule Y. S. Kim, B. U. Oh & C. G. Jang and P. infundiflorum Y. S. Kim, B. U. Oh & C. G. Jang. The habitat of Korean unrecorded species, P. acuminatifolium Kom. and P. odoratum var. odoratum were confirmed in this study. Keys to the sections, series and species including description of each taxon were provided here.

  • Six phytal harpacticoid species of the genus porcellidium are recorded from 22 algal species in the eastern (Sea of Japan) and southern (Korea Strait) coast of Korea. Among these six species, Porcellidium ofunatense Harris and Iwasaki and Porcellidium gamoi(Harris and Iwasaki) are recorded as new to Korean fauna. Other four species are described as new to science: Porcellidium bipartitum n. sp. found from a single algal species, Procellidium wandoensis n. sp. from ten algal species, Porcellidium acutum n. sp. from five algal species, and Porcellidium brevlcacum n. sp. from two algal species. It is found that the associations between the species of Porcellidium and macroalgae reveal weak specificities.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the diversity of ectomycorrhizal fungi by surveying sites from June 2010 to October 2011. The obtained results from investigation were as follows. The total of 2 Kingdom 3 Phylum 6 classes 15 orders 34 families 59 genera and 107 species including saprophytic and ectomycorrhizal fungi was investigated. A total of 10 families 17 genera 49 species (801 ea.) of ectomycorrhizal mushroom was investigated. The mushrooms are classified into 28 families 51 genera and 99 species in Basidiomycota, 5 families 7 genera and 7 species in Ascomycota and 1 families 1 genera and 1 species in Amoebozoa. Dorminant species were Amanitaceae (14 species) followed by Russulaceae (12 species) and Boletaceae (11 species). The populaion ectomycorrhizal mushroom was highest in sites 1 and 2, and sites 4 and 5 occurrence rarely. The mushroom occurrence of ectomycorrhizal fungi was closely related to climatic conditions such as high air temperature and lots of rainfall from July to August. The environment factors which have a favorable influence of mushroom occurrence were soil pH, organic matter content of soil and air temperature of climatic environment.

  • Ten species under three genera of the Laboulbeniales in South Korea are treated in this paper. Of these, Laboulbenia mudeungensis Y. B. Lee on Bembidion lissonotum Bates and Laboulbenia nogodanicus Y. B. Lee on Agonum buchanani Hope and Agonum sp. are new to science. Two species under two genera of Filariomyces and Misgomyces, and four species of Laboulbenia are new to Korea. They are Filariomyces forficulae Shanor on Labidura japonica De Hann, Misgomyces dyschirii Thaxter on Dyschirius ovicollis Putzeys, Chitonomyces iriomotensis Majewski on Laccophilus lewisius Sharp, Laboulbenia egens Speg. on Tachys gradatus Bates, Laboulbenia pedicellata Thaxter on Bembidion thermarum Motschulsky and Laboulbenia philanthi Thaxter on Philonthus wuesthoffi Bernhaur. On the other hand, two species of Laboulbenia are collected from the hosts not previously recorded in Korea. They are Laboulbenia flagellata Peyritsch on Platynus daimio Bates and Laboulbenia stenolophi Speg. on Philonthus longicornis Stenphens.

  • Associative heterotrophic nitrogen fixing bacteria were identified by immunodiffusion method in the histosphere of Planta-ginaceae, Caryophllaceae, Gramineae, and two types of rice cultivars. Twenty four strains associative heterotrophic bacteria with high ARA (more than 10nmole/tube/hr) were isolated from the histosphere of grasses and rice.* Those strains were related with 8 species of Azospirillum, 11 species of Pseudomonas, 2 species of Klebsiella and 2 species of Agrobacterium. Among them Azospirillum sp. and Pseudomonas sp. were predominant in histosphere of grasses and rice cultivars. From the histosphere of Oryza sativa, and Sagina maxima, the strains of Azospirillum, Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, and Agrobacter were identified while Pseudomonas was identified from Ischaemum anthephoroides, Plantago lanceolata, Miscanthus sacchuriflorum, and only Azospirillum was identified from Zoisia sinica, respectively. Associative nitrogen fixing heterotrophic bacteria were more abundant in the histosphere of Oryza sativa and Sagina maxima than that of other grasses grown in saline and reclaimed saline paddy soil.
