A study on application of fractal structure on graphic design (그래픽 디자인에 있어서 프랙탈 구조의 활용 가능성 연구)

  • The Chaos theory of complexity and Fractal theory which became a prominent figure as a new paradigm of natural science should be understood not as whole, and not into separate elements of nature. Fractal Dimensions are used to measure the complexity of objects. We now have ways of measuring things that were traditionally meaningless or impossible to measure. They are capable of describing many irregularly shaped objects including man and nature. It is compatible method of application to express complexity of nature in the dimension of non-fixed number by placing our point of view to lean toward non-linear, diverse, endless time, and complexity when we look at our world. Fractal Dimension allows us to measure the complexity of an object. Having a wide application of fractal geometry and Chaos theory to the art field is the territory of imagination where art and science encounter each other and yet there has not been much research in this area. The formative word has been extracted in this study by analyzing objective data to grasp formative principle and geometric characteristic of (this)distinct figures of Fractals. With this form of research, it is not so much about fractal in mathematics, but the concept of self-similarity and recursiveness, randomness, devices expressed from unspeakable space, and the formative similarity to graphic design are focused in this study. The fractal figures have characteristics in which the structure doesn't change the nature of things of the figure even in the process if repeated infinitely many times, the limit of the process produces is fractal. Almost all fractals are at least partially self-similar. This means that a part of the fractal is identical to the entire fractal itself even if there is an enlargement to infinitesimal. This means any part has all the information to recompose as whole. Based on this scene, the research is intended to examine possibility of analysis of fractals in geometric characteristics in plasticity toward forms in graphic design. As a result, a beautiful proportion appears in graphic design with calculation of mathematic. It should be an appropriate equation to express nature since the fractal dimension allows us to measure the complexity of an object and the Fractla geometry should pick out high addition in value of peculiarity and characteristics in the complex of art and science. At the stage where the necessity of accepting this demand and adapting ourselves to the change is gathering strength is very significant in this research.

  • In product design, many designers incorporate psychological aspects to express the "fun" factor. If so, is it possible to apply the fun inducing mechanism utilized in psychology to product design and are there any problems in the application\ulcorner Psychology defines the sense of fun as the result of relief to a situation that causes a mental accumulation through the discovery of a due. The psychological extraction of fun inducing mechanism tends to lean too much to the cognitive aspect. Therefore, when dealing with product design, psychology's particular disposition is inadequate in explaining the important perceptive factor of fun. This study hypothesizes that perceptive aspect of should be induced along with the cognitive aspect in order to rationalize fun in product design. In order to understand the perception of fun, this study will introduce the amusement aspect within Kitsch products. Methods of developing a humorous form will be studied and these methods will be applicable to perceptive aspects. This paper hypothesizes that through the theoretical basis of internal characteristic of cognitive factors and external characteristic of perceptive factors, the mechanism of fun can be determined.etermined.

A Study on the Art Make-Up Based on Surrealism -Focus on the creation of body painting works- (초현실주의 Art Make-up에 관한 연구 -Body Painting 작품제작을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify how modern formative art reflects surrealism and propose a Art Make-up expressed based on the trend. The study also aims at demonstrating the part that the Make-up based on surrealism is also an artistic being keeping pace with the trend of art. For the purpose, the study reviewed related theoretical backgrounds and works as manufactured. Based on these theoretical backgrounds, the author anufactured works of his own, realizing the combination between theoretical and practical aspects. Those works were motivated from existing surrealistic paintings or otherwise made surrealistically through creation by the author for himself. The works included , (Work 2-MAGRITTE's Expression>, , , and . Results of the study, which were obtained through manufacturing the works, can be described as follows. First, senses of modern formation and line were emerged by applying the materials and images frequently shown in surrealistic paintings to human bodies. Second, characteristics of the Art Make-up for artistic image were revealed, not limited to colors, expressions, subjects, techniques and materials. Third, an unlimited, interesting expression of the Make-up using a variety of materials became possible by applying extremely subjective, surrealistic paintings and images in various ways. This paper proposed that the Make-up should be a artistic image itself, not as a secondary means for an obvious expression of personal beauty which has been maintained since the ancient times. The researcher tried to put the Art Make-up into our daily life by making creative works which viewed and psychologically enjoyed by people and by proposing the works as sort of image theme to the spectators.

  • The purposes of this study are to review the designs of chopsticks which are the tableware we use in our daily lives, and to explore the possibilities of 3D Modeling System applications to improve their designs that will add the beauty of dining by sublating uniform and limited designs of the Korean chopsticks. To do so, this researcher was produced prototypes to be a unique cultural content through delicate expression using 3D Modeling while utilizing the Korean cultural elements as the design elements. After its production, unique design for chopsticks could be developed with the Korean characteristics. Like the case of this prototype, 3D Modeling and 3D Printing can help seek the new designs of chopsticks and improve the quality by multiple simulations. Also, it will assist to develop cultural contents that can play a role of the Korean cultural goods.

A Study on the Formative Characteristic and Visual Image of the Power Shouldered Jacket (파워 숄더 재킷의 조형적 특성과 시각적 이미지)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the formative characteristics of power-shoulder jacket shown in 08/09 F/W and 09/10 F/W London, Paris, Milan, New York collection and extract main expression words for development of semantic differential scales of visual image according to the change in shoulder angle and width of power-shoulder jacket. The result of this study is as follows. Power-shoulder jacket which were worn by 1980 business women have similar cutting with men's suit jacket, but have characteristics of exaggerating the body figure as exaggerated shoulder with pad and tight waist like an inverted triangle silhouette. Power-shoulder jackets shown in collections used glossy and glittering material and dark colors and formed slim silhouette with matches of shoulder line of temperate senses and casual wear. Like this, the power-shoulder jacket was expanded to daily casual wear from traditional formal wear. Main expression words of visual image of jackets according to the changes in angle and width of shoulder differ greatly depending on the expansion degree of angle and width of shoulder. Changes in shoulder angle may look tense, stiff and too much according to the amount of changes. However, it also has the image of sharp but dignified and charismatic. Also, it helps to show body figure more efficiently like being slim and looking taller. Related to the current trend emphasizing shoulder among women, it is evaluated to be stylish and trendy. When the expansion degree is not too much, changes in shoulder width partly show slim and slender waist under the influence of wider shoulder with basic tailored jacket image. However, when the expansion degree is enlarged, image related to the body figure is more definite compared to other visual images.

  • In the world, most of the metal technologists were as called as adornment artists than other field of industrial arts strongly industrial characters functional materials and manufacturing technology many used in the present age. In the study, one of adornments researched and material character analyzed about Art Clay Silver. The shrinkage rate of shape was about 0.24%. A shrinking phenomenon drying time thought of evaporation of water linking bonding agents and powders. After calcination of Art Clay Silver, the EDX used that just Ag 100% analyzed a result from the surface assay in the room temperature. A binder with powder in the room temperature considered to disappear, because it was been fume and smoke at high calcined temperature. A study showed when handicrafted necklaces make by these characteristic as using in difficult and delicated operations rather than naturally and beautifully expressive products.

  • This study was attempted to analyze the tendency of minimalism shown in the contemporary jewelry. For this purpose, we figured out the property of Personal ornaments, and studied the conceptual, formal and formative tendency of minimalism shown in the jewelry. The minimal art gave a new inspiration to the people who preferred a visual simplicity, which had much effect in shifting the concept of the previous design which laid stress on "Ornaments". Therefore, in this thesis, we would analyze the property of such minimalism and the tendency appearing in the jewelry and contribute to the development of a variety of design with its application.

  • This study is focused on subjective images that are produced before visualization in the digital information environment and on characteristics of objective, dynamic image expression that specifies the subjective images. In this study, the visual world that works in the action of "see"is expanded into vision of eyes, vision of brain, and vision of camera. Also we have redefined the definitions of image and its materialized image, yeongsang. It is defined that image contains a strong meaning of consciousness and mind, and that yeongsang involves vision in which constantly changing information of light is created and reproduced by physical processes. We made it clear that image expression in the 21 st century is becoming more generalized, simplified, and concentrated, by the digital technology, from existing specific non-real images to "informationalized" non-real images. This means that there exists an intrinsic difference in the expressional form of the modern analog environment and that of the recent digital environment in the area of yeongsang communication. Along with development of technology, image information raises plastic reality through indirect experience in the virtual space by expanding the sensual faculty of human. However, there also is a tendency for humans to rely more on technology instead of utilizing their creative faculty. Image expression by“the digital information environment” in the 21st century will pursue two sides; one is to shift from external expression of the human body in the cyber space to internal expression, and the other is to internalize the image world and make it connected worldwide. Suggestion on Modified Models of Service Blueprint for Product-Service System (제품-서비스 시스템을 위한 서비스블루프린트 수정모형의 제안)

  • Service blueprint is used to show the interaction between each service element at a glance and to understand the flow of the whole service centering on the customer at the stage of proposing a new service system. It was proposed in the 1980s before online business was developed. However, current services are changing in a way that provides various forms and channels, and the service blueprint seems to be not enough. To reflect this problem consciousness, we selected PSS among diversified service business models and propose a service blueprint type optimized for each business. After collecting 137 PSS cases to be used in the research, we made a business matrix and classified the cases and selected two representative cases to conduct two experiments. As a result, six types of service blueprint corresponding to the matrix could be derived: online service type, online remote support type, self rental type, online order type, traditional type, and offline support type. The validity of the proposed types of service blueprint was verified to confirm the suitability of those types.

  • Among many modelling factors which consist of a screen, a form brings a child's psychological response, according to its being drawn and expressed shape, and would be defined as a visual descriptive method which transmits the relation between the subject and background by a story content and the circumstance and emotion of characters in the story. In this study, to analyze how an expressed form on a screen works to a child visually and psychologically, I, first have examined how differently a child's perception development and its experience to the form is come out by the age of a child, and have found that it influences on a child's originality and creativity development, visual and psychological thinking development, and the stimulation on dream and imagination. And I have examined each characteristic by discriminating the expressive style of the form into a reproductive, a simplified, an exaggerated and a distorted form expression, and by utilizing it as substantiative data through the 1st and 2nd stage, have analyzed responses and preferences according to a style of a child's expression form. In conclusion, I have considered that the analysis result through the substantiative study would be a help not only to the form expression which is based on an illustrator's personality and creativity, and also would be utilized in the effective expression method study and experiment of students who learns the illustration.
