  • Remanufacturing is an industrial manufacturing process. The merits of manufacturing are to reuse old products to perform like a new product and to save energy, natural resources, landfill space and to reduce air pollution by less re-smelting. This paper proposes a systemic approach for activating the domestic remanufacturing industry. The approach is based on inside and outside regulations to apply remanufacturing companies. And, we analyzed the state and problems of remanufacturing industry for automobile parts.

UNSM Surface Technology for Manufacturing and Remanufacturing Torsion Bars for Crawler Vehicles (초음파 나노표면개질을 적용한 궤도차량용 토션바 제조 및 재제조용 표면 개질기술에 관한 연구)

  • The Ultrasonic Nanocrystal Surface Modification (UNSM) technology improves the fatigue life of a torsion bar by inducing compressive residual stress on the surface layer. The UNSM is applied to replace the presetting method and shot peening technology. The torsion bar must be changed periodically because of a lack of durability and a phenomenon related to the stress relaxation. The torsion fatigue test specimens were made of DIN17221 material, and the results showed that the fatigue life was 5 times more than under durability test conditions. A comparison test between the commercial vehicles' presetting method and shot peened torsion bar and the UNSM torsion bar showed that the UNSM could replace the presetting method and shot peening.

The Engine Performance and Emission Characteristics of Remanufactured Diesel Engine by Hydrogen Enrichment (재제조된 노후 디젤엔진의 수소첨가에 따른 출력 및 배출가스 특성)

  • The remanufacturing industry for automotive parts is a major issue which affects the environment protection and CO2 reduction throughout the world. Beside this, remanufacturing technologies of worn-out diesel engines have been developing to make as close to new as possible. In this study, the characteristics of the engine-power output and exhaust emissions of remanufactured diesel engine by hydrogen enrichment are evaluated by measuring the engine and vehicle test. Moreover, with worn-out diesel engine and first generation common-rail engine, we compared by testing their characteristics, resulting in the restoration of engine-power output more than 93%, as well as marvelously reduces the THC and NOx emission. At a guess, high pressure injection of diesel increases fuel atomization characteristics with excellence combustion efficiency, resulting in reduction of THC emission. Also, rapid cooling of EGR decreases combustion temperature, resulting in reduction of NOx emission. Consequently, these remanufacturing for diesel engine enables worn-out diesel engine to have restoration to the original state. Simultaneously achieved 2 goals called that CO2 emission reduction and protection of environment by remanufacturing engine.

  • The common rail diesel engine used in this study is a remanufactured waste engine. The fuel injection timing of the waste engine is set to be suitable for the operating conditions of the vehicle. However, the engine of a generator is operated at a constant speed and mainly at partial load. Therefore, it is necessary to change the fuel injection timing suitable for the power generation engine, and the cost and the time required for such change must be minimized as much as possible. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the fuel efficiency improves according to the fuel injection timing suitable for the engine for the generator, thereby increasing the performance and fuel efficiency.

  • Reusing is one of the most environmentally friendly recycling methods. For the economical remanufacturing of used cellular phone, the cellular phones should be design for easy disassembly. In this paper, we analyzed the components and connecting elements of cellular phones and developed a guideline for the design of the cellular phones. A software for the disassembly assessment was also developed. Redesigned cellular phone by the developed guideline and its original phone was analyzed by the disassembly assessment software. Disassembly time could be reduced about 40% and reusing rate could be improved about 37%.

Scientific Analysis of Slags and Furnace Wall collected from Iron Production Site at Suryong-ri Wonmorongi in Chungju (충주 수룡리 원모롱이 야철지 수습 철재 및 노벽의 과학적 분석)

  • This study focused on iron making related information through analyzing slags and furnace wall collected from iron production site of Suryong-ri Wonmorongi, Chungju. Total Fe content of slags were from 36.98% to 44.47% and this range was general recovery rate of iron in ancient. Compounds of calcium included slags was supposed to add intentionally during smelting process as deoxidation agent in order that these helped to separate iron from impurities. Furnace wall didn't make of high alumina clay because of low $Al_2O_3$. Microstructure and main components of slags show that No. 1 to 3 slags with fayalite and wustite were products of iron ore smelting. However, No.4 slag is more likely to smelt by iron sand because of ulvospinel with $TiO_2$ in No. 4 slag. Therefore, iron ore were not only used but iron sand in smelting and furnace wall made of general clay with low $Al_2O_3$ content in this area.

  • 최근, 환경오염에 대한 관심도가 높아짐에 따라 폐제품의 처리 문제가 중요시되고 있다. 여러 선진국에서는 페제품의 처리 문제를 해결하고자 환경에 대한 규제를 강화하고 있다. 그러므로, 폐제품에 대한 활용방안이 요구되고 있다. 기존의 폐제품에 대한 분해방법은 분해비용만을 고려하여 제품을 구성하고 있는 최하위부품까지 그 과정을 제시하였으나, 폐제품에 대한 활용성은 제시하지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 형상과 기능 그리고 오염물질, 분해비용을 고려하여 폐제품의 분해방법을 제시하고자 한다. 제시하는 방법에 따라 폐제품의 재사용(reuse), 재활용(recycling), 재제조(remanufacturing), 폐기에 대한 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 폐제품의 활용성을 고려한 하나의 접근방법이라 할 수 있다.
