  • 광패킷 라우팅 방식 중 OBS(Optical Burst Switching)는 최근 IP over WDM 구현과 테라 비트 광라우터 구축을 위해 제안되는 해이다. OBS 광패킷 헤더 처리기는 광버스트 스위칭 망 기반의 광패킷 라우터에서 물리광 계층의 헤더 패킷을 인식하고 처리하기 위한 것으로 본 고에서는 코어용 광패킷 라우터의 제어장치인 광패킷 헤더 처리기의 설계에 관하여 고찰한다.

ARQ Packet Error Control Scheme Using Multiple Threads Based on MMT Protocol (MMT 프로토콜 기반의 다중쓰레드를 활용한 ARQ 패킷 오류 제어 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose an ARQ packet error control scheme using multiple threads in delivering massive capacity of multimedia based on MMT(MPEG Media Transport) protocol. On the sending side, each frame that constitutes an image is packetized into MMT packets based on MMT protocol. The header of the packet stores the sequence number of the frames contained in the packet and the time of presentation information. The payload of the packet stores the direct information that comprises the frame. The generated MMT packet is transmitted to the IP network. The receiving side checks if any error has occurred in the received packet. For any identified error, it controls the error through ARQ error control scheme and reconfigure the frame according to the information stored in the header of the received packet. At this point, a multi-threading based transport design is constructed so that each thread takes over a single frame, which increases the transmission efficiency of massive capacity multimedia. The efficiency of the multi-threading transport method is verified by solving the problems that might arise when using a single-thread approach if packets with errors are retransmitted.

  • In this paper, we proposed a high speed IP(Internet Protocol) packet forwarding engine of ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) based label edge routers for POS(Packet over SONET) interface. The forwarding engine uses TCAM(Ternary Content Addressable Memory) for high performance lookup processing of the packet received from POS interface. We have accomplished high speed IP packet forwarding in hardware by implementing the functions of high speed IP header Processing and lookup control into FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array). The proposed forwarding engine has the functions of label edge routers as the lookup controller supports MPLS(Multiprotocol Label Switching) packet processing functionality.

  • Gradient projection (GP) technique is applied for solving the optical routing problem (ORP) in high speed packet switched networks. The ORP minimizing average network packet loss probability is non-convex due to packet losses at intermediate switching nodes and its routing solution cannot be directly sought by the GP algorithm. Thus the non-convex ORP is transformed into a convex problem called the reduced-ORP (R-ORP) for which the GP algorithm can be used to obtain a routing solution. Through simulations, the routing solution of the R-ORP is shown to be a good approximation to that of the original ORP. Theoretical upper bound of difference between two (ORP and R-ORP) routing solutions is also derived.

  • This paper proposes an access control algorithm for guaranteeing fair packet transmissions in CDMA-based slotted ALOHA systems. In the proposed algorithm, the base station calculates the packet transmission and retransmission probabilities based on the offered loads and then broadcasts these probabilities to all mobile stations. Mobile stations, which have a packet to transmit, attempt to transmit a packet with the received probabilities. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can offer better system throughput and average delay than the conventional algorithm. Results also show that the proposed algorithm can guarantee a good fairness among all mobile stations regardless of the offered loads.

  • 본 논문은 모바일 환경에서 제한된 메모리를 가지고 있는 수신자에 의 한 TCP흐름 제어 방법을 제안한다. TCP 흐름 제어는 송신자에서 수신자에게 전달되는 Advertised 윈도우 크기를 조정하여 수행된다. 수신자는 무선 대역폭과 종단간 패킷 왕복 시간을 동적으로 측정하며 최적의 Advertised 윈도우 크기를 계산하고 송신자의 전송률을 무선 대역폭으로 제한한다. 제안된 흐름 제어 기법은 제한된 메모리를 가진 수신자를 고려하였으며 무선 네트웍의 특성을 고려 한 효율적 인 TCP 흐름 제어로 TCP의 전송 성능 향상과 종단간 패킷 왕복 시간의 지연을 줄일 수 있도록 하였다. 제안된 흐름 제어 기 법의 효율성과 성능을 구현과 실험을 통해 검증한다.

  • 인터넷 네트워크에 존재하는 방화벽(Firewall) 또는 라우터(Router) 장비에서의 패킷 필터 기능은 모든 방화벽 장비의 기본적인 기능이 될 수 있다. 하지만 최근에 등장한 세션기반의 악의적 침입과 바이러스의 출현으로 패킷 필터기는 단순한 정적 패킷 필터 기능이 아닌 상태기반 패킷 필터의 동적 패킷 필터 기능을 요구하게 되었다. 또한 최근에 인터넷 속도가 급증하는 환경변화에 맞추어 방화벽 장비의 TCP 패킷 처리기능은 매우 빠른 처리속도를 요구하고 있다. 이에 우리는 매우 빠른 고속의 TCP 상태기반 패킷 필터 처리를 요구하는 에지(Edge)급 라우터의 방화벽 옵션카드를 만들기 위해 하드웨어 기반의 TCAM(Ternary CAM) 관리를 이용한 TCP 세션 상태기반 (Stateful) 패킷 필터기를 구현하였으며, TCAM 제어와 패킷의 상태기반 검사 등 모든 기능처리는 FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array)를 이용한 하드웨어 로직(Logic) 및 상태기(State Machine)로 구현하였다. 그리고 본 논문의 구현방식을 적용한 방화벽 옵션카드는 인-라인(In-line) 모드로 구성될 경우 1GHz 이상의 Wire Speed를 만족하는 처리성능을 보여주었다.

A Lightweight Packet Filter for Embedded System (임베디드 시스템을 위한 경량의 패킷필터)

  • The advance of computer and communication technologies enables the embedded systems to be equipped with the network communication interfaces. Their appearance in network leads to security issues on the embedded systems. An easy way to overcome the security problem is to adopt the packet filter that is implemented in the general computer systems. However, general packet filters designed for host computers are not suitable to embedded systems because of their complexity. In this paper, we propose a lightweight packet filter for embedded systems. The lightweight packet filter is implemented in the kernel code. And we have installed a Web-GUI interface for user to easily set the filtering policies at remote space. The experimental results show that the proposed packet filter decreases the packet delivery time compared to the packet filter designed for host computers and it is comparable to the systems without packet filter.

  • This paper proposes a traffic management policy for delay control in the wireless networks. The so-called EDD(Earliest Due Date) scheme is adopted as the packet scheduling policy, so that the service provision is performed in the order of the transmission urgency of the backlogged packets. In addition, we derive a formula to determine the contention window, one of the MAC parameters, with the goal of minimizing the non-work conserving characteristics of the traditional MAC scheme. This method eliminates the burden of the class-wise parameter settings which is typically required for the priority control. Simulations are performed to show the validity of the proposed scheme in comparison with the policy that adopts the class-level queue management such as the IEEE 802.11e standard. Smaller delays and higher rates of delay guarantees are observed throughout the experiments.

  • The IEEE 802.17 Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) for future Local, Metropolitan, and Wide Area Networks was recently standardized, but it still suffer from delay jitter deterioration and even some bandwidth loss under unbalanced overload. In order to overcome these drawbacks, this paper proposes a bandwidth redistribution based fairness control method, compatible with the legacy one, in which each congested node measures the amount of available bandwidth of its bottleneck link resulted from regulating upstream nodes' shares of the link bandwidth, calculates optimal fair rate with the number of uptream nodes requiring more bandwidth, and then redistributes the available bandwidth to the upstream nodes by advertising the rate. The performance evaluation results show that the proposed method fairly redistributes 95% of the bottleneck link bandwidth with even only two redistributions.
