Timed-Transfer System: its Application and Effects on Bus Transit System (버스 동시환승체계의 적용과 효과분석)

  • In low-density areas where travel pattern is widely dispersed and travel demand is relatively low, transit operators find it very difficult to provide a reasonable level of service at a reasonable cost. Timed-transfer system or network, if designed properly, can provide a reasonable level of service for passengers using transit systems serving low-density areas. The paper intends to apply a timed-transfer system for bus lines serving Yangsan City area and to assess the effects resulted from the application. The concept of a timed-transfer network/system is briefly described, and the present conditions of bus systems in Yangsan City area are discussed, focusing on the aspects of network type and the related problems. The bus timed-transfer network for the area is then developed by adjusting the existing routes and network with the consideration of travel time, route alignments, headways and transfer centers. One must note that developing a timed-transfer network presumes that network and schedule should be developed together. The effects of the developed time-transfer system on the passengers and operators are found substantially so as to justify its introduction to the City. The results of this study will be of considerable use for planners to design the transit systems in low density areas, where in general travel activities are widely dispersed and travel demands are low, so that provision of good quality of transit services are difficult.

  • With the inauguration of the Bolsonaro administration in 2019, Brazil experienced a noticeable transformation in its policy lines at home and abroad. Limiting this change to diplomacy, it can be pointed out that pro-U.S. and anti-China diplomacy, which is clearly distinguished from the previous regimes, has begun in earnest. Nevertheless, the existing literature on this topic is limited, and it is mainly poetic reporting through the media. This paper aims to derive the main determinant of Bolsonaru's pro-U.S. and anti-China diplomatic lines by postulating the individual level of the political leader as a key variable. This study argues that his personal experience and beliefs and world views formed by his life history, and Bolsonaro's political calculation that would strengthen his domestic political support through linking between his domestic politics and diplomatic lines, ultimately influenced the dependent variable. This study is thought to be meaningful in that it enhanced the theoretical implications of not only the theory of foreign policy determinants but also the understanding of Brazil's foreign policy by explaining the factors of Brazil's pro-U.S. and anti-China diplomacy through focusing on an individual level.

  • Recently, as various metro lines have been constructed and connected to other lines the rate of utilization has also been increased. However, the existing fare policy which the government does still stick to causes not only inappropriate action to the demand pattern but aggravation of the profit of the operation company. This study reviewed rail fare policy of major countries such as Japan and U.K etc. to improve the rationality of fare policy in Korea. In order to systematical analysis of fare policy, such viewpoints as of fare decision method, the card fare discounting system, the structure of fare, and the government subsidy policy were reviewed. Based on the results from the review, various problems and improvement plans were drawn. Through this study, appropriate fare systems to urban railway users could be given to improve the chronic deficit problem of urban railway operators.
