  • Testing standards both nationally and abroad for high flowing concrete are presented about slump flow and the time to reach 500 mm. However, the slump flow testing method to measure flow properties of high flowing concrete results in measurement error due to the differences in each person's perception of the test. This study introduced laser diode to reduce such testing errors from personal differences in experimental procedure.

  • The high capacity bi-directional pile load test is an optimum pile load test method for high-rised buildings. Especially, a high pressure and double-acting bi-directional pile load testing, a special type of the high capacity bi-directional pile load test, is the most practical way to overcome limitations of loading capacities and constraints of field conditions, which was judged to be a very useful test method for requiring high loading capacities. Total of 2 high capacity bi-directional pile load tests(P-1 and P-2) were conducted in high-rised building sites in Korea. Based on the field load test results, the sufficiency ratio of loading capacities to design loads for P-1 and P-2 were 3.3 and 2.1, respectively. For P-2, the load test could not verify the design load if 1-directional loads applied slightly smaller than the actual applied load. Also, high capacity bi-directional pile load tests were difficult to determine an ultimate state of ground or piles, although the loads were applied until their maximum loads. Hence, finite element analyses were conducted to determine their ultimate states by calibrating and extrapolate with test results.

  • The standard construction manual of the SDA(Separated Doughnut Auger) piling method was proposed so that the resisting capacity of the augered piles could work effectively. 405 dynamic pile load tests and 30 static pile load tests were performed for 265 test piles, which were installed by the SDA piling method in 33 sites in Korea. The results of the pile load tests showed that the end bearing capacity of the SDA augered piles depended on the property of various soil stratums and did not agree with ones estimated by the existing formula based on several standard design codes. On the basis of the pile load test results, four formulas were presented according to bearing stratums to estimate quantitatively the unit end bearing capacity of the SDA augered piles. The formulas for the unit end bearing capacity of piles on soils or weathered rocks were related to N-value given by SPT(Standard Penetration Test), while the unit end bearing capacity on bedrock was suggested to be more than 1500 $tf/m^2$. The presented formulas were compared with the existing formulas, which were presented by several standard design codes to design the augered piles. In order to use correctly the presented formulas, the quality of Standard Penetration Test should be controlled precisely. Also it is desirable to choose a pilot construction site, where both dynamic and static pile load tests are performed.

  • The Air-breathing engine like Sea-Star I is a second propulsive force generator to fly to the target after the booster generating initial propulsive force is separated. The performance of Sea-Star I engine should be verified because the cruise missile controls direction and altitude during flight, so ground engine test is executed before flight test. This these presents evaluation method of ground engine test to verify performance of Sea-Star I's engine.

  • The skid proof pavement is used for safety driving on curved bridges and high level roads. This study analyzed the effect of skid proof pavement on the bridge using actual spot test and computer analysis. In the actual spot test, the natural frequency and dynamic deflection of steel box girder bridges were measured before and after skid proof pavement. Likewise, in the computer analysis, the dynamic response of the finite element model was evaluated. The model was based on real steel box girder bridge according to the skid proof pavement. The analyzed results provide basic data on the effect of skid proof pavement on road structure.

  • Mathematical model of maneuvering motion for a Mobile Harbor is established and versatile applications to the special situations of maneuvering are attempted. The Mobile Harbor in this research has twin Azipod thruster and twin bow thruster. In order to predict the maneuverability of Mobile Harbor, a mathematical model was developed on the basis of MMG model, and some model test results were adopted for the simulation of Mobile Harbor. As a result, the turning motions of the Mobile Harbor were successfully calculated. and the optimal berthing system was completed.

  • This paper proposes a formal method on confromance testing for INAP(AIN) test sequence generation by optimization technique. In order to implement and prove the dffectiveness of the proposed method,we specify the SRSM of INAP protocol SRF in SDL and generate I/O FSM by using our S/W tool. We generate an opti-mal test sequence by applying our method our method to this reference I/O FSM. We prove experimentally that the length of the generated test sequence by our method is more effective and shorter(i.e 32% improved)than the one geverated by UIO method, and estimate that The test coverage space of our test sequence is larger that of UIO method.

  • To study the carrying capacity behavior of pile, dynamic pile testis and static load tests were carried out on two instrumented piles during and some time after pile driving. Cone Penetration Test( CPT) and Standard Penetration Test(SPT) were also performed at the test site before pile tests to investigate the relationship between unit skin friction of piles and cone tip resistance values and SPT N values. Total static capacity of pile reached the ultimate stage at the pile head settlement of about 0.055D (D : Pile diameter), at which skin friction of Pile already Passed the maximum value, but the end bearing was still increasing with the pile head settlement. The carrying capacity of pile increased in the form of natural logarithmic function with the time after pile driving. The increase in skin friction with time was very substantial the increase in skin friction 40 days after pile driving was 4.6 times of that determined during pile driving. The contribution of skin friction to the total capacity twas insignificant in the beginning, but became substantial 40 days after pile driving. This implies that the tested pile initially responded as an end bearing pile and later behaved as a friction pile. It was also noted that unit skin friction of pile might be ielated to cone tip resistance values(q.) and SPT N values, though the coefficient of this relationship might differ from one soil group to another and was somewhat greater than the value used in the design practice of Korea.

  • Axial compressive failure loads ($P_n$) of diameter 500 mm and diameter 600 mm A type PHC pile were calculated as 7.7 MN and 10.6 MN, respectively. In the static pile load tests, the maximum axial compressive loads of the above 2 kinds of A type pile were measured as 6.9 MN and 8.8 MN respectively, therefore these measured maximum loads were at the level of 90% and 83% of $P_n$ respectively. Long-term allowable axial compressive loads ($P_a$) of the above 2 kinds of A type pile were 1.7 MN and 2.3 MN respectively. From the bi-directional pile load test data on the prebored PHC piles, it was confirmed that the allowable axial compressive bearing resistance was estimated as 131% of the long-term allowable compressive load of the PHC pile and showed higher than the allowable bearing capacity calculated by the current design method. Therefore, it has been verified that the PHC pile can be used up to the maximum long-term allowable compressive load, and it is suggested that the ultimate pile capacity formula used in the current design for prebored PHC piles should be improved to accommodate the actual capacity.

  • For the development of load and resistance factor design, reliability analysis is required to calibrate resistance factors in the framework of reliability theory. The distribution of measured-to-predicted pile resistance ratio was obrained based on only the results of load tests conducted to failure for the assessment of uncertainty regarding pile resistance and used in the conventional reliability analysis. In other words, successful pile load test (piles resisted twice their design loads without failure) results were discarded, and therefore, were not reflected in the reliability analysis. In this paper, a new systematic method based on Bayesian theory is used to update reliability indices of driven steel pipe piles by adding more proof pile load test results, even not conducted to failure, to the prior distribution of pile resistance ratio. Fifty seven static pile load tests performed to failure in Korea were compiled for the construction of prior distribution of pile resistance ratio. The empirical method proposed by Meyerhof is used to calculate the predicted pile resistance. Reliability analyses were performed using the updated distribution of pile resistance ratio. The challenge of this study is that the distribution updates of pile resistance ratio are possible using the load test results even not conducted to failure, and that Bayesian updates are most effective when limited data are available for reliability analysis.
