  • For sharing XML data by many users, a way of concurrency and access control is required for isolating update actions such as inserting and deleting subtrees. Exisiting locking mechanisms as 2PL or MGL suffer low concurrency when applied to tree structures. In this paper, list data subtrees model is proposed based on the semantics expressed in DTD. In this model, tree updating actions such as inserting and deleting subtrees are considered only for the repetitive parts of XML trees. The proposed model guarantees that the result XML tree after applying a tree updating action is always valid, even when multiple users access the tree at the same time. Also, a new locking mechanism called list lock-ing protocol is proposed. The new locking protocol is expected to show better accessility with less number of locking objects compared to the Helmer's OO2PL model. Since update actions on a shared XML tree usually applied to the repetitive parts of the tree, the proposed model is expected to provide a useful way for efficient data sharing when combined with previous locking methods on terminal node data.

  • XML (extensible Markup Language) is recognized as a standard of data representation and transmission on Internet. XPath is a standard for specifying parts of XML documents anda suitable language for both query processing and access control of XML. In this paper, we use the XPath expression for representing user queries and access control for XML. And we propose an access control method for XML, where we control accesses to XML documents by filtering query XPath expressions through access control XPath expressions. In the proposed method, we directly search XACT (XML Access Control Tree) for a query XPath expression and extract the access-granted parts. The XACT is our proposedstructure, where the edges are structural summary of XML elements and the nodes contain access-control information. We show the query XPath expressions are successfully filtered through the XACT by our proposed method, and also show the performance improvement by comparing the proposed method with the previous work.

  • The urban park plays important roles in protecting the urban landscape and improving citizens' health, recreation, and the emotional life. Above and beyond these roles, the urban park is expected to rearrange urban spatial structures as a kind of urban system. The purpose of this paper is to identify empirically to change urban spatial structures by construction of the urban park. This study regards gentrification around the urban park as a process to change urban spatial structures. The gentrification means the regeneration and upgrading of deteriorated urban property by the middle class or commercial developers. The site of case analysis is the Seoul Forestry Park in Sungdong-gu, Seoul. The Seoul Forestry Park is regarded as a representative urban park of Seoul, and caused gentrification around park after the 2005 opening. This study operationally defines the gentrification index and the accessibility index from an urban park and offers an empirical analysis of relation among the urban park, the gentrification and urban spatial structure in a statistic district which is the minimum unit of Korean statistic data in 2000, 2005, and 2010, using Difference-in-Difference method and linear probability model. The results of this empirical study show that the Seoul Forestry Park changes urban spatial structures by gentrification. It reverses a trend of migration of gentrifiers before and after construction of the Seoul Forestry Park. It suggests urban park construction as an alternative method for urban regeneration by inducing the middle class into the inner city of Seoul.

  • With the recent proliferation of the use of semi-structured data such as XML, it becomes more important to efficiently store and manage the semi-structured data. The XML data can be logically modelled as a rooted tree e.g., the DOM tree. In order to process a query on the XML data, we traverse the tree structure. In this paper we present an algorithm that places the XML data to disk blocks. The proposed algorithm assigns a number to each node of the tree in a bottom-up fashion. Then, the nodes are allocated to disk blocks using the assigned number. The proposed algorithm does not need access pattern information, and provides good performance for any access pattern. The characteristics of the proposed method are presented with analysis. Through experiments, we evaluate the performance of the proposed method.

  • In main-memory resident index structures, secondary cache misses considerably have an effect on the performance of index structures. Recently, several main-memory resident index structures that consider cache have been proposed to reduce the impact of secondary cache misses. However they still suffer from full secondary cache misses whenever visiting each level of a index tree, In this paper, we propose a new index structure that eliminates cache misses even when visiting each level of index tree. The proposed index structure prefetches the grandchildren of a current node. The basic structure of the proposed index structure is from CSB+-tree that uses the concepts of the node group to increase fan-out. However the insert algorithm of the proposed index structure reduces the cost of a split significantly, Also, we show the superiority of our algorithm through various performance evaluation.

  • LoRa is a physical layer technology that is designed to provide a reliable long-range communication with introducing CSS and with introducing a loco parentis tree network. Since a leaf can utilize multiple parents at the same time with a single transmission, PDR increases logarithmically as the number of gateways increases. Because of the ALOHA-like MAC of LoRa, however, the PDR degrades even under the loco parentis tree topology similarly to the single-gateway environment. Our proposed method is aimed to achieve SDMA approach to reuse the same frequency in different areas. For that purpose, it elaborately controls each TxPower of the senders for each message in concurrent transmission to survive the collision at each different gateway. The gain from this so-called capture effect increases the capacity of resource-hungry LPWAN. Compared to a typical collision-free controlled-access scheme, our method outperforms by 10-35% from the perspective of the total count of the consumed time slots. Also, due to the power control mechanism in our method, the energy consumption reduced by 20-40%.

  • Advances in information and communication technologies have been creating new classes of applications in the area of databases. For example, in moving object databases, which track positions of a lot of objects, or stream databases, which process data streams from a lot of sensors, data Processed in such database systems are usually changed very rapidly and continuously. However, traditional database systems have a problem in processing these rapidly and continuously changing data because they suppose that a data item stored in the database remains constant until It is explicitly modified. The problem becomes more serious in the R-tree, which is a typical index structure for multidimensional data, because modifying data in the R-tree can generate cascading node splits or merges. To process frequent updates more efficiently, we propose a novel update technique for the R-tree, which we call the leaf-update technique. If a new value of a data item lies within the leaf MBR that the data item belongs, the leaf-update technique changes the leaf node only, not whole of the tree. Using this leaf-update manner and the leaf-access hash table for direct access to leaf nodes, the proposed technique can reduce update cost greatly. In addition, the leaf-update technique can be adopted in diverse variants of the R-tree and various applications that use the R-tree since it is based on the R-tree and it guarantees the correctness of the R-tree. In this paper, we prove the effectiveness of the leaf-update techniques theoretically and present experimental results that show that our technique outperforms traditional one.

  • Recently, It has focused on decision tree algorithm that can handle large dataset. However, because most of these algorithms for large datasets process data in a batch mode, if new data is added, they have to rebuild the tree from scratch. h more efficient approach to reducing the cost problem of rebuilding is an approach that builds a tree incrementally. Representative algorithms for incremental tree construction methods are BOAT and ITI and most of these algorithms use a local discretization method to handle the numeric data type. However, because a discretization requires sorted numeric data in situation of processing large data sets, a global discretization method that sorts all data only once is more suitable than a local discretization method that sorts in every node. This paper proposes an incremental tree construction method that efficiently rebuilds a tree using a global discretization method to handle the numeric data type. When new data is added, new categories influenced by the data should be recreated, and then the tree structure should be changed in accordance with category changes. This paper proposes a method that extracts sample points and performs discretiration from these sample points to recreate categories efficiently and uses confidence intervals and a tree restructuring method to adjust tree structure to category changes. In this study, an experiment using people database was made to compare the proposed method with the existing one that uses a local discretization.
