Characteristics of Auto-ignition and Micro-explosion for Array of Emulsion Droplets (유화액적 배열에서의 자발화와 미소폭발의 특성)

  • The auto-ignition characteristics and combustion behaviors of one-dimensional array of water-in-fuel droplets suspended in a high temperature chamber have been investigated experimentally with various droplet spacing and number of droplets. The fuels used were pure n-decane and emulsified n-decane with water contents varied from 10% to 30%. All experiments have been performed at 920 K under the atmospheric pressure. The number of droplets in an array were fixed as 3 or 5 and its spacing was varied from 3 mm to 7 mm by 1mm interval. The imaging technique with a high-speed camera has been adopted to measure the ignition delay and flame life time. The micro-explosion behaviors were also observed. As the droplet array sparing increased, the ignition delay also increased regardless of water contents. However, the life time of droplet array decreased as the droplet spacing increased. The full combustion time in array of 3 droplets was found to be longer than that for 5 droplets case due to the longer ignition delay.

A Study of Flame Visualization of the APU Gas Turbine Engine Sector Combustor (APU용 가스터빈 엔진 분할연소기의 화염가시화 연구)

  • In order to see flame behavior in the annular reverse gas turbine combustor, sector combustion test was performed. Ignition test by using torch ignition system was carried out at various combustor inlet velocity and air fuel ratio. Also, flame blow out limit was measured by changing fuel flow rate with constant air mass flow rate. In test results, stable ignition is possible at air excess ratio of 6 and this limit is gradually increased with combustor inlet velocity. The minimum blow out limit is about 4 at 40 m/s of combustor inlet velocity. This blow out limit is also increased up to about 10 with increasing combustor inlet velocity. Test result shows that lean blow out limits are increased with air velocity. The highest blow out limit was found at the combustor inlet velocity of 65 m/s.

  • Inha Rocket Research Institute has made the igniter that is combination of black powder and PVA polymer for ignition small rocket. But recent igniter is not satisfy because of the performance of igniter is not identified. So, we confirmed requirement of igniter by comparing of ratio of black powder and PVA through experimental method. Especially we studied with ignition temperature for propellant and stable combustion pressure that is requirements of propellant. We can know the tendency of combustion properties by ratio of oxidizer and combustion catalyst through changing of temperature and pressure of exhaust gas of igniter.

  • The hydrogen torch ignition system has been widely used to ignite a pure aluminum for aluminum powder combustion system because of its simple ignition method. However, the conventional hydrogen torch ignition system has a disadvantage that requires a high-pressure tank to supply hydrogen, which leads to the increase of the weight. In order to solve this problem, a hydrogen ignition system using $NaBH_4$, a solid chemical hydride, was designed in this study. The thermal decomposition of $NaBH_4$ was initiated approximately at $500^{\circ}C$ and hydrogen was generated. The parameters affecting the thermal decomposition characteristics of $NaBH_4$ were analyzed and the aluminum combustion test was carried out using $NaBH_4$-based hydrogen ignition system to study the applicability to a practical aluminum-combustion propulsion system.

  • The flow and combustion dynamics in the ignition and ramjet sustainer phase of an integrated rocket-ramjet(IRR) engine are investigated. The physical model includes the entire engine flowpath, from the freestream in front of the inlet to the exit of the exhaust nozzle. The flowfield obtained from a rocket booster study is used as the initial condition for the present analysis, so that the complete operation history of the engine can be obtained. The analysis for the primary factor governing flame propagation during the ignition and the key mechanisms for driving and sustaining the flow oscillations are performed.

  • This study was performed to design of $H_2O_2$/Kerosene catalyst ignition injector and cold flow test to measure the mass flow rate and spray angle. Mass flow rate and spray angle were measured by designed injector through cold flow test. Result of test kerosene mass flow rate was measured 12.88 g/s and 40 deg of spray angle at pressure drop 3 bar as same as design point. And hydrogen peroxide was measured 94.39 g/s at pressure drop 1 bar smaller than design point.

  • Burning characteristics of working uniform was studied in this paper experimentally. Initial ignition point was classified in three cases that is midpoint of sleeve (Sleeve case), front side midpoint of coat (Center case) and midpoint of trousers (Leg case). The results are as follows· The remained mass ratio was decreased in order of Leg case, Sleeve case, Center case. And the highest average temperature of surface was appeared in order of Sleeve case, Center case, Leg case. Maximum radiant heat flux during burning was appeared high in order of Sleeve case $(0.5\;W/cm^2)$, Center case $(0.45\;W/cm^2)$, Leg case $(0.44\;W/cm^2)$.

  • In this study, the effects of water vapor in inlet air, spark advance and fuel type in the spark ignition engine were investigated through the experiments of combustion and flame arriving pattern analysis using ionization probe. The results of flame propagation experiment using ionization probe show that the flame which ignited from spark plug located at the center of the combustion chamber propagated faster in exhaust side than in intake side due to the mixture flow motion inducted into combustion chamber from intake tumble port at all conditions. And as the partial vapor pressure increased, the flame propagation became slower in all direction. Especially effects were greater for intake side than the exhaust side.

  • Using the numerical code for the interior ballistics, the performance of the interior ballistics with the characteristic of the ignition injection has been investigated. When the maximum position of ignition injection is near the base, the pressure distribution at the chamber of the interior ballistics was uniform and the final projectile velocity is increased.
