Velocities Induced by Stator Arrays in a Class of Shear Flows (전단 유동중에 놓인 스테이터에 의한 유기속도)

  • The interaction of the flows induced by stator blades with a ship-like wake is discussed to obtain the flow components of each with and without radial shear. The flow induced by stator blades is modeled by lifting line theory and the shear is taken to be provided by the radial gradient of the peripheral mean axial flow approximated by a logarithmic function of radius for a class of vessels. And the theory is based on the linearized Euler equations in the absence of viscosity. The results show that shear effects are relatively large at inner radii and the distribution of blade pitch angles is most effective in reducing non-uniformity.

Review of Viscosities and Phases of Biogenic Secondary Organic Aerosols (생물기원 이차유기에어로졸의 점성도와 상 규명에 관한 최근 연구 동향)

  • Researchers have traditionally assumed that aerosol particles containing secondary organic aerosols (SOAs) are to be in liquid state with low viscosity even at low relative humidity. However, recent measurements showed that SOAs can have high viscosity under certain conditions. Herein, new different techniques for measurements of viscosities of SOA particles are introduced. Moreover, laboratory studies for the viscosities and the phases of biogenic SOAs produced by ${\alpha}$-pinene, isoprene, limonene, and ${\beta}$-caryophyllene of atmospheric relevance are reviewed. Future studies for determination of the phases of atmospheric aerosol particles are also suggested.

  • The hydrodynamic characteristics of oil skimmers are reviewed. The paper consists of (1) introduction of the general aspects of oil skimmers, including kinds, performance indices, current market situations, (2) the analysis of factors affecting oil- skimming, (3) the review of existing papers with a special focus on hydrodynamic problem and finally (4) conclusions and some suggestions. The purpose of this paper is to draw hydrodynamists' attentions on oil skimmer, more broadly on marine oil spill.

  • The flow analysis is made to simulate the turbulent flow in the pipe with an obstacle. The models used are k-$\epsilon$, k-$\omega$, Spalart-Allmaras and Reynolds. The structured grid is used for the simulation The velocity vector, the pressure contour, the change of residual along the iteration number and the dynamic head are simulated for the comparison of four example cases. For the analysis, the commercial code is used.

  • To analyze the ocean wave more efficiently, more fine grids are used with relatively less computer memory. Each element of free surface is discretized into more fine grids because the ocean waves are much influenced by the mesh used in the finite difference scheme. According to the flow analysis, remarkable improvements could be seen in the free surface generation. The multi grid is applied to confirm the validity of scheme.   • This study investigates the effect of temperature and electric field strength on the Bingham characteristics of Electro-Rheological(ER) fluids which change their Yield shear stress and viscosity by temperature and electric field strength. It is found that under constant temperature the Yield sheal stress and viscosity of ER fluids proportionally increase with the applied electric field strength, and under constant applied electric field strength the Yield shear stress and viscosity of ER fluids decrease with the increasing temperature. These results are considered to be applied to the fluid and pneumatic power industry.

A study on the flow characteristics of non-Newtonian fluid flows in dividing tubes (분기관에서 비뉴턴 유체의 유동특성에 관한 연구)

  • Flow patterns of fluid flow in dividing trbe were visualized, and the energy losses due to dividing were measured in laminar dividing flow of the viscoelastic fluid and its solution in tube junctions with dividing angles of $90^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $65^{\circ}$ and $15^{\circ}$. Two separation zones were observed. swelling of the streamline to the main tube or to lateral tube was observed. The sizes of the separation zones depend on the Reynolds number, the dividing angle and the dividing flow rate. The energy loss coefficients decrease with increasing Reynolds number, but their decreasing rate decreases with increasing Reynolds number as the sizes of the separation zone increase. The effect of dividing angle on the energy loss coefficients and separation is greater for main tube than for the lateral tube.

A Study on the Numerical Analysis of the Viscous Flow for a Full Ship Model (비대선 모형에 대한 점성유동의 수치해석연구)

  • This paper presents the numerical analysis results of the viscous flow for a full ship model. The mass and momentum conservation equations are used for governing equations, and the flow field is discretized by the Finite-Volume Method for the numerical calculation. An algebraic grid and elliptic grid generation techniques are adopted for generation of the body-fitted coordinates system, which is suitable to ship's hull forms. Time-marching procedure is used to solve the three-dimensional unsteady problem, where the convection terms are approximated by the QUICK scheme and the 2nd-order central differencing scheme is used for other spatial derivatives. A Sub-Grid Scale turbulence model is used to approximate the turbulence, and the wall function is used at the body surface. Pressure and velocity fields are calculated by the simultaneous iteration method. Numerical calculations were accomplished for the Crude Oil Tanker(DWT 95,000tons, Cb=0.805) model. Calculation results are compared to the experimental results and show good agreements.

  • Magnesium-3, 6wt% Nickel alloys were fabricated by Rotation-Cylinder Method(RCM) in ambient atmosphere. The alloys were divided into two different heat-treating conditions, as-cast and thixotropic treated. Thixotropic heat treatment enhances the separation of primary hydride former of Mg and the catalytic phase of $Mg_2$Ni. Hydrogenation properties of the each alloy were evaluated and compared by PCI(Pressure-Composition Isotherm) measurement. The maximum hydrogen capacity and the reversible capacity of as -cast Mg-6wt% Ni alloy were 5.2wt% and 3.8wt% at 623k, respectively.
