A Study on Evaluation of Combat Effectiveness in WMA-EA based on C2 Model (C2모델 기반 전장아키텍처의 전투효과 평가방안)

  • ROK Joint Chiefs of Staff in developing an WMA-EA(Warfighting Mission Area-Enterprise Architecture) tries to create the practical buildup requirements of military power through precise requirements and operational capabilities based on the architectures. However, it is difficult to verify the effectiveness of target architectures and do efficient requirement planning because we cannot know the gap of quantitative combat effectiveness between current and target WMA-EAs. This study presents an evaluation method of combat effectiveness and focuses on combat's positive effects in WMA-EAs. The method proposed is based on C2 model which is appropriate for the evaluation of combat effectiveness in architectures. We verify the effectiveness of the proposed method through a case study of an anti-ship warfare architecture.

Anti Air Warfare analysis & Design of the Patrol Killer Experiment Combat System by the Model-Based-Simulation (모델 기반의 시뮬레이션 기법을 이용한 차기 고속정(Patrol Killer Experiment)용 전투체계 대공전 기능의 분석 및 설계)

  • Anti-Air Warfare(AAW) functionality of the naval combat system is the key functionality to ensure the ship's survivability. We have applied a novel method using model-based-simulation to analyze and design AAW functionality of the Patrol Killer Experimemnt Combat System. In this approach, an AAW functional model is described with the FSM(Finite State Machine) and directly executed for the AAW simulation. After prototyping using model based simulation, Hardware In Loop Simulation(HILS) is conducted as the AAW functionality is interfaced with the other ones of the combat system for completing the integration of the system components. This incremental and iterative development approach based on the model based simulation can minimize the development risks and costs caused by the system complexity for military system, bringing out the merit of the rapid prototyping.

  • The future warfare is known as an effective centric paralysis warfare where military high technologies such as pinpoint strikes are applied. In this future warfare, for supporting military operation leadership and power of concentration in the combat, a new concept of logistic support is required and the focused logistic is proposed as an alternative. To implement this focused logistic, asset visibility should be assumed for every combat units in real time. However, current logistic information systems provide only limited information. In this study, a prototype information system for class 2 and 4 supplies is proposed for overcome limitations of current information system. The developed prototype zooms in on combat units providing business process integrations and logistic function synchronization. Also, asset visibility, the essential element of focused logistics, is presented and utilized to show the speedy and effective logistic support.

  • The IISS(Integrated Interface Storage System) software performs the function of transmitting tactical domain messages of Combat Management System for interface analysis of Naval Combat System. The source code is relatively large because the IISS software handles most messages. The modifications of source code of the IISS software occur frequently due to changes in interconnected equipment and messages. Therefore, additional effort and cost are required during the development process. In this paper, we studied standardization of the IISS software to improve reusability. Through the feature model, the components of the IISS software were divided by function and modification elements were separated. And the structure of the IISS software was improved by applying design patterns. As a result, it was possible to minimize modifications of the IISS software by changes in interconnected equipment and messages and a reduction in development costs could be expected.

  • Most warship combat systems inquire human operator to control several sensor and another equipments as well as decision-modeling. For this reason, many researches with multi-agent based M&S (Modeling and Simulation) have been increasingly conducted. However there cannot find any researches of M&S based analysis for anti-submarine warfare that requires a high level of mission complexity between multiple platforms. In this research, we have been developed various combat platform models such as warship, submarine and helicopter, etc. In order to apply the multi-agent-based M&S technology to the anti-submarine warfare i.e. a HVU (High Value Unit) escort mission scenario. Then we have successfully analyzed the measures of effectiveness according to the different tactics and different situations. In future, the defence engineer maybe employ our methodology and tools to analyze actual tactical problem by simply inserting actual data into our agent model.

  • This study aims to analyze cases of drone psychological warfare in modern conflicts and examine their effects and limitations. Focusing on the cases of the United States, Israel, and Ukraine, the study investigates the impact of drone-based surveillance, attacks, and propaganda activities on the morale and combat will of enemy forces. The findings indicate that drone psychological warfare has a significant effect in pressuring the enemy psychologically and weakening their will to fight. However, it also entails serious side effects, such as civilian casualties and controversies over violations of international law, which calls for an ethical review. This study is significant in providing a foundation for in-depth discussions on the effectiveness and ethics of drone psychological warfare.

  • During the conceptual design phase of a wing-body-canard type fighter class aircraft, as a method of maneuverability enhancement for an aircraft, effects of canard-leading edge flap scheduling have been studied. In this study, corrected supersonic panel method has been used to predict the drag polar characteristics due to canard-leading edge flap deflections in the high speed regime. Utilizing the predicted drag polar curves, the canard-leading edge flap scheduling laws have been established. These scheduling laws are the relation of canard-leading edge flap deflections and the flight conditions to maximize the lift-drag ratio. Based on the results obtained from the canard-leading edge flap scheduling, the present method has shown to be useful to enhance the maneuverability of wing-body-canard type fighter class aircraft.
