Implementation of Progressive Radiosity on GPU for Image based Relighting (영상기반 재조명을 위한 GPU 기반 래디오시티 구현)

  • 전역조명기법(global illumination)중에서 난반사(diffuse reflection) 객체들 사이의 관계를 효과적으로 표현하는 래디오시티(radiosity)방법은 객체들 사이의 에너지 교환에 에너지 평형 상태를 모델링 한다. 그러나 래디오시티는 많은 계산량으로 인해 실시간 활용에는 적합하지 않았다. 최근 장면생성에 걸리는 소요시간을 크게 단축시킬 수 있는 비용대비 고성능의 그래픽스 하드웨어(GPU)를 이용한 방법들이 제안되고 있다. 객체들 사이에서 교환되는 에너지는 래디언스(radiance)로 표현이 가능하며, 이러한 래디언스는 대상 장면에서 취득한 HDR(High Dynamic Range) 영상으로부터 래디언스 맵을 구성해서 얻을 수 있다. 이를 기반으로 대상장면의 조명환경을 구성하면 대상장면의 복잡도와는 별개로 빠르고 사실적인 합성장면을 생성할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 G. Coombe 등이 제안한 점진적 세분(progressive refinement) 알고리즘을 수정하여 래디언스 맵을 이용할 수 있도록 하였으며, 각 텍셀(texel)설정 및 보간(interpolation) 적용 등에 따른 실험 결과를 얻고 분석하였다. 구현된 방법은 이후 영상기반 재조명과 그래픽스 하드웨어를 이용한 영상합성 기술로 영화, 애니메이션, 가상현실, 게임 등에 다양하게 활용될 예정이다.

SVM Kernel Design Using Local Feature Analysis (지역특징분석을 이용한 SVM 커널 디자인)

  • The purpose of this study is to design and implement a kernel for the support vector machine(SVM) to improve the performance of face recognition. Local feature analysis(LFA) has been well known for its good performance. SVM kernel plays a limited role of mapping low dimensional face features to high dimensional feature space but the proposed kernel using LFA is designed for face recognition purpose. Because of the novel method that local face information is extracted from training set and combined into the kernel, this method is expected to apply to various object recognition/detection tasks. The experimental results shows its improved performance.

Implementation of Real-time Interactive Ray Tracing on GPU (GPU 기반의 실시간 인터렉티브 광선추적법 구현)

  • Ray tracing is one of the classical global illumination methods to generate a photo-realistic rendering image with various lighting effects such as reflection and refraction. However, there are some restrictions on real-time applications because of its computation load. In order to overcome these limitations, many researches of the ray tracing based on GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) have been presented up to now. In this paper, we implement the ray tracing algorithm by J. Purcell and combine it with two methods in order to improve the rendering performance for interactive applications. First, intersection points of the primary ray are determined efficiently using rasterization on graphics hardware. We then construct the acceleration structure of 3D objects to improve the rendering performance. There are few researches on a detail analysis of improved performance by these considerations in ray tracing rendering. We compare the rendering system with environment mapping based on GPU and implement the wireless remote rendering system. This system is useful for interactive applications such as the realtime composition, augmented reality and virtual reality.

  • In this paper, we present a GA(Genetic Algorithm) approach to select weighting matrices of an optimal LQ(Linear Quadratic) controller for SVC(Static VAR Compensator). A SVC, one of the FACTS(Flexible AC Transmission System), constructed by a FC(Fixed Capacitor) and a TCR(Thyristor Controlled Reactor), was designed and implemented to improve the damping of a synchronous generator, as well as to control the system voltage Also, a design of LQ controller depends on choosing weighting matrices. The selection of weighting matrices which is not a trivial solution is usually carried out by trial and error. We proposed an efficient method using GA of finding weighting matrices for optimal control law. Thus, we proved the usefulness of proposed method to improve the stability of single machine-infinite bus with SVC system by eigenvalues analysis and simulation.

  • 본 연구에서는 화학사고와 관련하여 위험확산 예측기술개발을 위해 필요한 기상관측장비의 설치위치를 공간분석기법을 활용하여 우선순위로 설치되어야 하는 지역 20개소를 선정하였다. 울산전지역을 1km, 5km, 10km 격자망을 생성하여 기존 기상청에서 제공하고 있는 기상정보를 제외하고 울산전역의 상세한 기상관측정보 제공을 위해 필요한 관측개소 개수를 1차적으로 파악하였다. 위험확산 모니터링에 필요한 기상관측장비 설치간격을 결정하고 경제성을 고려하여 통신사 기지국 활용가능성을 검토하였다. 20개의 최종 설치위치를 결정하기 위해 울산지역에서 발생한 화학사고정보를 기반으로 밀도분석을 수행하여 위험지역을 분석하고, 유해화학물질을 취급하는 업소 정보를 수집하여 군집분포를 수행하였으며, 누출사고 발생 시 가장 중요하게 고려되어야 하는 주거지역 분포를 파악하기 위해 밀도분석을 수행하였다.

  • 본 연구에서는 위성영상자료 Landsat TM(1999.8.16), ETM+(2002.9.17)을 활용하여 북한 서한만 지역의 NDVI, 토지피복, 지표온도 분포도를 작성하여 경년에 따른 환경변화를 탐지 및 분석하였으며 ISODATA Clustering 기법을 적용하여 북한 서한만 일대의 간석지 분포도를 작성하였다. 북한 서해안 간석지 면적변화 탐지를 위하여 고지형도 (1918)를 디지털 자료로 변환하여 북한 서해안 전역의 간석지 GIS DB를 구축하였으며 위성영상자료를 이용하여 작성된 간석지 공간 분포도와의 비교ㆍ분석을 통하여 북한 서한만 일대의 84년간의 간석지 면적변화를 탐지하였다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 북한 서해안 지역의 간석지 퇴적 환경정보 및 다양한 연안 환경정보를 구축할 수 있었으며 북한 서해안 지역과 남한 서해안 지역의 간석지 연안환경 비교 분석 등을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 것으로 판단된다.

An Enhancement Technique for Backlit Images using Laplace Pyramid Fusion (라플라스 피라미드 융합을 이용한 역광영상의 개선 방법)

  • There is a limit to improving the image quality through global processing of images taken under backlighting because too bright and dark parts are mixed in one scene. This paper introduces a method to improve the quality of a photo by making two virtual images that improve the dark and bright areas of a backlit photo, and fusing them with the original image into a Laplacian pyramid. The proposed method reduces the computational burden by using histogram stretching and gamma transformation that can be simplified with LUT when creating the two virtual images. In addition, in order to obtain a color-enhanced image, contrast conversion was performed only on the luminance using the HSV coordinate system. The proposed technique showed its effectiveness by calculating several NIQA indicators using standard image data sets.

  • Recently, light pollution has become a serious environment issue caused by excessive uses of artificial light. Central and local governments have made efforts to manage light pollution and mitigate light pollution damages. Developing methods to diagnose light pollution is critical to effectively monitor light pollution conditions in Seoul. This study develops a methodology to create a map that presents the status of light pollution in Seoul, using International Space Station(ISS) night-time images. Through the map, we evaluated the areas that show high levels of light intensity and found out local characteristics of light intensity; Commercial area, office building concentrated area, and large sports facilities. The result of study provides basic understanding to present a new way for monitoring light pollution in urban sites.

  • The volume rendering has become an important technique in many applications along with hardware development. Understanding and perception of volume visualization benefit from visual cues which are available from shading. Better visual cues can be obtained from global illumination models but it's huge amount of computation and extra GPU memory need cause a lack of interactivity. In this paper, in order to improve visual cues on volume rendering, we propose an image space occlusion shading model which requires no additional resources.

  • Ths paper presents an optimization method which determines locations and size of capacitors simultaneously while minimizing power losses and improving voltage profile in radial distribution systems. Especially, the cost function associated with capacitor pla.cerrent is considered as step function due to banks of standard discrete capacities. Genetic algorithms(GA) are used to obtain efficiently the solution of the cost function associated with capacitors which is non-continuous and non-differentiable function. The strings in GA consist of the node nwnber index and size of capacitors to be installed. The length mutation operator, which is able to change the length of strings in each generation, is used. The proposed Jrethod which determines locations and size of capacitors simultaneously can reduce power losses and improve voltage proftle with capacitors of minimum size. Its efficiency is proved through the arolication in radial distribution systems.ystems.
