Design of the Low Noise Amplifier and Mixer Using Newly Bias Circuit for S-band (새로운 바이어스 회로를 적용한 S-band용 저잡음 증폭기 및 믹서의 One-Chip 설계)

  • In this paper, the study of a design, fabrication and measurement of the receiver MMIC LNA, mixer for S-band application is described. The LNA is designed by 2-stage common source. The mixer is composed of active LO and RF balun to integrate on a chip and applied a newly proposed bias circuit to compensate the process variations of active devices. The LNA has 15.51 dB-gain and 1.02dB-Noise Figure at 2.1 GHz. The conversion gain of the mixer is -12 dB, IIP3 is approximately 4.25 dBm and port-to-port isolation is over 25 dB. The newly proposed bias circuit is composed of a few FETs and resistors, and can compensate the variation of the threshold voltage by the process variations, temperature changes and etc. The designed chip size is $1.2[mm]\times1.4[mm]$.

  • With the development of industry these days, the demand for electric power increases and the larger capacity for power transfer is required. The scales of facilities should become larger; and the relative systems are required to operate with a higher degree of reliability. Therefore, stabilization of electric power systems is an important issue. The high degree of reliability required in the process of production and supply of electric power is an essential part of industrial society. Accident such as blackouts causes a hugh amount of economic losses to the high-tech industrial society dependent upon electric power. In this paper, in order to determine a stable operation of high-voltage power cable, used as a unique means of delivering electric power generated at a power station, we figure out the time rate of change of insulation resistance following a decay accelerating factor Arrhenius equation. With the data from the insulation resistance, we can determine the lifetime of power cable in operation.

  • Thin Cross 초음파모터의 구조는 그림 1(a)와 같이 크로스형태의 얇은 스테이터에 윗면과 아랫면에 각각 8개의 압전세라믹이 부착된 형태이다. 압전세라믹의 분극방향은 로터와 접촉하는 스테이터의 중심부인 네 개의 타 점에서 순차적인 타원변위가 생성되도록 결정된다. 유한요소해석프로그램인 ATILA 5.2.4를 사용하여 최적설계된 모델을 제작하였고, 푸쉬풀 게이지, x-y 스테이지, rpm 메타, 토크 게이지를 이용하여 구동시스템을 구성하였다. 그림 1(b)는 마이크로컨트롤러(ATmega)를 이용한 구동 드라이버를 보여준다. 한 주기에서 1/4분주의 순차적인 네 개 의 구형파를 생성하고, 이를 push-pull회로를 통하여 90도의 위상차가 나는 정현파를 생성하여 초음파 모터의 구동 전원으로 사용한다. 피드백 회로인 맨코더와 AD 컨버터는 정속도 운전을 위해서 사용되었다. 제안된 구동드라이버를 이용하여 측정한 결과, 기존의 제품화된 드라이버와 비교하여도 특성의 큰 차이를 보이지 않았으며 피드백 회로를 통하여 부하변화에 따른 속도의 극심한 변화를 비교적 안정화 시킬 수 있었다. 입력전압을 증가시킬수록 속도는 선형적인 증가를 보였고 토크는 이와 반대로 감소하는 특성을 보였다. 피드백 제어회로가 없는 경우에는 프리로드 변화에 따른 극심한 속도 변화를 보였고, 피드백 제어를 하였을 경우에는 0.2~0.4[N]의 범위에서 정속도 운전이 가능함을 확인하였으며, 장시간의 운전에도 온도 및 속도특성이 안정적인 특성을 보였다.

  • Pulse electrokinetic technology is proposed for improving the dewatering-process from clay-sandy soil. Proposed electrokinetic technology is to be the dewatering process due to fluid movement of current flow for the stability of clay-sandy soils. Samples produced in this study were completed to verify the proposed performance for 7 days by gradually increasing the pressure to the final pressure of 30 psi ($2.11kgf/cm^2$) through the compression process. In this study, pulse electrokinetic treatment and conventional continuous electrokinetic treatment are tested and observed, respectively. The condition of continuous electrokinetic treatment is a continuous process during 48 hours. And the condition of pulse electrokinetic treatment system is to interrupt the power three times for 48 hours, every 8 hours. These treatments are that the voltage gradient is 3 V/cm. As a result, the efficiency of pulse electrokinetic is similar to the continuous electrokinetic. The power consumption efficiency of pulse electrokinetic is better than continuous electrokinetic.

Electrochemical Characteristics of Lithium Ion Battery Anode Materials of Graphite/SiO2 (리튬이차전지 음극재로서 Graphite/SiO2 합성물의 전기화학적 특성)

  • The graphite/$SiO_2$ composites as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries were prepared by sol-gel method to improve the graphite's electrochemical characteristics. The prepared graphite/$SiO_2$ composites were analysed by XRD, FE-SEM and EDX. The graphite surface modified by silicon dioxide showed several advantages to stabilize SEI layer. The electrochemical characteristics were investigated for lithium ion battery using graphite/$SiO_2$ as the working electrode and Li metal as the counter electrode. Electrochemical behaviors using organic electrolytes ($LiPF_6$, EC/DMC) were characterized by charge/discharge, cycle, cyclic voltammetry and impedance tests. The lithium ion battery using graphite/$SiO_2$ electrodes had better capacity than that of using graphite electrodes and was able to deliver a discharge capacity with 475 mAh/g at a rate of 0.1 C. Also, the capacity retention ratio of the modified graphite reaches 99% at a rate of 0.8 C.

Development of Optical Video Device for HD-SDI Video Signal Transmission (HD-SDI 비디오 신호 전송을 위한 광 비디오 전송 장치 개발)

  • We have developed an optical video transmission device for HD-SDI signal transmission. The optical transmitter/receiver unit operates at DC 5 volt and small enough to be attaced near surveillance camera. They have internal voltage regulating circuits to supply 3.3V to other circuits inside the unit. The optical transmitter is composed of cable driver, laser diode driver, and laser diode. The optical receiver is composed of photodiode, limiting amp, and cable equalizer. The wavelength of the trasmitter was 1.3 um, and optical power was -5dBm, and the speed was 1.485Gbps. The receiver sensitivity was -23 dBm. We confirmed that the optical device can transmit HD-SDI video through 30 km optical fiber without any interruption.

  • This paper presents a Single-Inductor Multiple-Output (SIMO) DC-DC Converter with a negative feedback selection circuit to improve a regulation property at light load and to generate independent multiple outputs. The conventional SIMO DC-DC converter with a fixed negative feedback circuit cannot regulate correctly at light load. The SIMO DC-DC converter with the proposed negative feedback selection circuit has been designed in 0.35um 2-poly 3-metal BCDMOS. This converter is dual output boost converter with the 1.5V input and 2.5V, 3.0V output. The power conversion efficiency varies from 59% at 10mA loads to 85% at 50mA loads.

Design of Low Dropout Regulator using self-cascode structure (셀프-캐스코드 구조를 적용한 LDO 레귤레이터 설계)

  • This paper proposes a low-dropout voltage regulator(LDO) using self-cascode structure. The self-cascode structure was optimized by adjusting the channel length of the source-side MOSFET and applying a forward voltage to the body of the drain-side MOSFET. The self-cascode of the input differential stage of the error amplifier is optimized to give higher transconductance, but the self-cascode of the output stage is optimized to give higher output resistance, The proposed LDO using self-cascode structure was designed by a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology and simulated using SPECTRE. The load regulation of the proposed LDO regulator was 0.03V/A, whereas that of the conventional LDO was 0.29V/A. The line regulation of the proposed LDO regulator was 2.23mV/V, which is approximately three times improvement compared to that of the conventional LDO. The transient response of the proposed LDO regulator was 625ns, which is 346ns faster than that of the conventional LDO.

  • 본 연구는 방사선 영상센서 적용을 위한 $HgI_2$ 필름의 특성 평가에 관한 것으로서 X-선 조사조건별 인가전압에 따른 검출신호 특성을 조사하였다. 기존의 $HgI_2$ 검출기의 경우 신호량이 크다는 장점이 있으나 노이즈의 양이 크다. 이에 대한 해결책으로 보호층을 삽입하나 이 경우 X-선 조사에 따른 시간 응답 특성이 있어서 전하트랩현상(tailing effect)에 의한 영향이 크게 존재하였다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하고자 보호층으로써 a-Se 을 삽입하여 기존의 $HgI_2$ 검출기에서 사용되어지는 parlyene이 삽입된 검출기와 전기적 특성을 측정, 비교해보고자 한다. 제작방식으로는 대면적 제작이 용이한 스크린 프린팅 방식을 이용하여 두께 $140\;{\mu}m$$3\;cm\;{\times}\;2\;cm$ 면적으로 제조하였다. 측정결과, a-Se을 보호층으로 사용한 $HgI_2$ 필름이 민감도는 거의 비슷하나 누설전류가 안정화 되는데 걸리는 감소시간(decay time)이 parlyene을 사용한 구조에 비해 훨씬 낮았다. 또한 X선에 대한 민감도는 기존의 a-Se에 비해 월등히 높아 적은 방사선 조사량(radiation dose)에서도 신호검출이 가능하여 저선량이 요구되는 방사선 투시촬영(digital fluoroscopy) 적용에 유용할 것으로 기대된다.

Analysis on the Light Source Efficiency of CCFL and LED Monitors (CCFL 및 LED 모니터 광원 효율 분석)

  • In this paper, we analyze the efficiency of light sources of CCFL and LED monitors. Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL), which is widely used as a light source for LCD display, supplies a high voltage of 1,200[V] or more when it is initially driven. In addition, a constant normal voltage of 400 ~ 800[V] after lighting, and 3 ~ 6[ mA] is needed for a power circuit that can stabilize the current. Applying a high voltage causes a lot of stress on the inverter and generates a lot of heat in the cold cathode lamp, causing significant damage to the BLU (Back Light Unit), resulting in a burning phenomenon, which causes the screen to output normal colors when outputting the screen. We can not see the yellow output and the screen darkened. Therefore, in order to prevent such a symptom in advance, efficiency can be increased by using a Light Emitting Diode (LED) as the light source of the LCD display instead of a cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL). As a result, it is shown that the LED method outperforms the CCFL method.
