In order to maximize the usable capacity of a BMS (battery management system) that uses several battery cells connected in series, a cell balancing technique that equips each cell with the same voltage is needed. In the active cell balancing circuit using a multi-winding transformer, a balancing circuit that transfers energy directly to the cell (cell-to-cell) is composed of a PMOS switch and a gate driving chip for driving the NMOS switch. The TLP2748 photocoupler and the TLP2745 photocoupler are required, resulting in increased cost and reduced integration. In this paper, instead of driving PMOS and NMOS switching devices by using photocoupler, we proposed 70V BCD process based PMOS gate driving circuit, NMOS gate driving circuit, PMOS gate driving circuit and NMOS gate driving circuit with improved switching time. ${\Delta}t$ of the PMOS gate drive switch with improved switching time was 8.9 ns and ${\Delta}t$ of the NMOS gate drive switch was 9.9 ns.

A pulse detonation engine (PDE) requires high operating frequency greater than 100 Hz to get meaning thrust as a propulsion devise. Thus a PDE needs an ignition circuit operating precisely at high operating frequencies. In this paper AC(alternating current) and DC(direct current) types of ignition circuits were designed and compared. Each circuit was tested at operating frequencies from 16.66 to 100.00 Hz by measuring the input signal of each circuit and the voltage change in the primary coil of the transformer. Results show that the DC power circuit can attain a maximum error rate of 5.15% at higher operating frequencies, whereas the AC power circuit displays a negligible agreement with the operating signal at frequencies greater than 33.33 Hz. Therefore it is confirmed that DC-powered ignition circuit is preferable for the PDE operating at high frequencies.

It has been studied over the long time for the high efficiency and high power density of the power converter. It is possible to obtain higher power conversion efficiency and small volume by increasing switching frequency, however, the switching loss is also increased. The soft switching technique can overcome of the above deficiency. The design and analysis method for ZVS(Zero Voltage Switching) Phase Shifte Full bridge converter is presented in this paper. The power transfer depends on the phase difference between two legs of the power stage and the maximum power conversion efficiency is achieved by the optimum leakage inductance value. The waveform of the current and voltage of the operational mode is analysed and the corresponding switch status is plotted as on/off status. A ZVS full bridge converter for a communication rectifier with 2kW output power is implemented and its performance are verified through PSIM software simulation and experimental results.
A recent trend of technical development in auxiliary-power-supplies (APS) is to replace 60Hz low frequency transformers with isolated type dc/dc converters. This paper introduces the technical trend in APS structures and proposes a power converter circuit suitable for high-efficient and light-weight APS. By utilizing the resonant converter, which achieves ZCS, to reduce switching losses, various types of APS structures (1-stage and 2-stage) are reviewed, and they are verified by simulation. The full-bridge resonant LLC converter is designed with a 1-stage power converting structure; the resonant converter topology is designed with a 2-stage power converting structure that has a pre-regulator converter to compensate for the wide input voltage range. Both a step-down converter and a step-up converter are designed and compared for the pre-regulator in the 2-stage structure. Operational characteristics are compared with simulation results and loss analyses are presented to proposes appropriate system structure and topologies.

This paper analyzes the transients for parameters on electrical distribution system. We analyze the voltage sag and switching surge caused by reclosing and develope a distribution system model of multiground type using a practical data of 22.9(kV) distribution system. It is at customer that we analyze an affecting of reclosing through EMTP (Electromagnetic Transients Program) simulation, present transient phenomena on fault line and parallel line. Also. we analyze the various parameters affecting this phenomena in detail through parametric analysis. These factors include the fault location, load size, load power factor, capacitor bank size, and reclosing angle. And relation between these parameters and transient phenomena is presented.
The HVDC transformer which is one of the main equipments for HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) electric power transmission systems is exposed to not only AC voltage but also the inflowing DC voltage which comes from the DC-AC converter systems. Therefore, the HVDC transformer insulation system is required to withstand the electric field stress under AC, DC and DC polarity reversal conditions. However the electric field distributions under those conditions are different because the AC electric field and DC electric field are governed by permittivity and conductivity, respectively. In this study, the changes of electric potential and electric field of conventional AC transformer insulation system under DC polarity reversal test condition were analyzed by FEM(Finite Element Method). The DC electric field stress was concentrated in the solid insulators while the AC electric field stress was concentrated in the mineral oil. In addition, the electric stress under that condition which is affected by the surface charge accumulation at the interfaces between insulators was evaluated. The stress in some parts could be higher than that of AC and DC condition, during polarity reversal test. The result of this study would be helpful for the HVDC transformer insulation system design.

As one of the countermeasures to solve the increase of the fault current in a power system, the superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) has been noticed together with the development of a various types of SFCL, which has accelerated the researches to apply a SFCL into a power system. Among the developed SFCLs, the transformer type SFCL is expected to be available for adjusting the voltage and the current ratings of the SFCL. In this paper, the fault current limiting and the bus line‘s voltage sag suppressing effect by the transformer type SFCL were investigated and the case without the transformer type SFCL was compared as well. Through the analysis on the results of the short-circuit tests, the fault current limiting and the bus-line voltage suppressing characteristics of the transformer type SFCL could be confirmed to be effectively performed.
In this paper, the on line volt/var control algorithms of the food Load Tap Changer (LTC) transformer and Shunt Capacitor(SC) are proposed for distribution volt/var regulation. In the existing volt/var control of the distribution substation, the voltage of feeders and var of distribution systems is mainly controlled by the LTC transformer tap position and on/off status of the shunt capacitor. The LTC and shunt capacitor bank has discrete operation characteristics and therefore it is very difficult to control volt/var at the distribution networks within the satisfactory levels. Also there is limitation of the operation times of the LTC and shunt capacitor bank because it is affects on their functional lifetime. The proposed volt/var control algorithm determine an optimal tap position of LTC and on/off status of shunt capacitors at a distribution network with the multiple feeders. The mathematical equations of the proposed method are introduced. Simple case study was performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, implementation of an integrated transformer applicable to power supply units (PSUs) for a 150-W LED with a wide range of output voltage is presented. The transformer is comprised of a PFC inductor and an LLC resonant transformer, each of which is placed and integrated on an E-I-E-type magnetic core. Integrated transformers with two different air gap topologies (i.e., the side and center gap topologies) are considered in the design phase to investigate their applicability. The design consideration on the LLC resonant converter used for the wide-output-voltage control ranges is described, and the overall performance of the proposed system is verified through realization of it onto a 150-W LED PSU board.

The PD measurement method is very useful to detect insulation degradation. Recently, the HFPD(High Frequency Partial Discharge) measurement testing is widely used in partial discharge measurement of HV machines because HFPD measurement testing receives less influence of external noise and has a merit of good sensitivity. Therefore it is very useful method compare to previous conventional PD testing method and effective diagnosis method in power transformer that requires in-service diagnosis. But partial discharges have very complex characteristics of discharge pattern so it is required continuous research to development of precise analysis method. In this study, simulated transformer is manufactured and HFPD occurred from simulated transformer is measured with broad band antenna and active-line RF measurement system in real time, the degradation grade of transformer is analyzed through produced patterns in simulated transformer according to applied voltages. Also the PD pattern which was measured with EMC analyzer and RF measurement system is compared.
