Electrical Properties of Piezoelectric Ceramics for Ultrasonic Welder (초음파 융착기용 압전 세라믹스의 전기적 특성)

  • We know that the piezoelectric constant d, the dielectric constant, and the electric-mechanical coupling coefficient affect the output for piezoelectric ceramics used in ultrasonic welders. Therefore, in this study, the characteristics of ceramics according to the changes of additives to the components of PZT-PMN-PZW were examined. When the addition amount of $MnO_2$ was 2 wt%, the most excellent properties were shown, which suggested the applicability as a material for fusion welding.

Non-Destructive Testing of Damaged Thermoplastic Pipes Electrofusion Joints Using Phased Array Ultrasonic (위상배열초음파를 이용한 손상된 열가소성 플라스틱배관 전기융착부 비파괴검사)

  • Non destructive testing(NDT) methods of electrofusion(EF) joints of thermoplastics pipes are required for fusion joint safety and for the long term reliability of a pipe system. Electrofusion joints, which are joined at the proper fusion process and procedures, may encounter defects due to the difference of ovality between pipes and coupling, improper fusion process or porosity result from electrofusion joining. These defects can cause the failure of pipeline and by extension, they can be caused the limit to expand the use of plastics pipes. This paper studies inspection results using ultrasonic imaging method for damaged polyethylene electrofusion joints. Gas was leaking from 250mm diameter polyethylene electrofusion joints at February 2004 which was electrofused at December 1994 and operation pressure was 2.45kPa. First, surface inspection was conducted and then in order to find the types of defects examination using ultrasonic imaging method was performed. Lack of fusion and inappropriate inserting for polyethylene pipes into electrofusion coupling were found and causes of the gas leak were judged that misalignment and insert defect. Cutting inspection was performed and each inspection results were compared to. Results of ultrasonic imaging method and cutting inspection were the same.

A Study of Electro-foaming Fusion Wrap for Polyethylene Sewer Pipe (폴리에틸렌 하수관 연결용 전기발포융착 이음관에 관한 연구)

  • A electro-foaming fusion wrap fitting for polyethylene sewer pipe was built and foaming mechanism has been studied. A foaming sheet, supporting sheet and clamping band is assembled into a all-in-one structured electro-foaming fusion wrap fitting. To specify foaming and fusion of electro-foaming fusion wrap for PE sewer pipe, series of fusion tests were performed in various conditions. A parallel plate compression test up to 50 % of inner diameter deflection has been performed to check integrity of fusion quality and it was found that there were no visible signs of crack in wrapped area of fitting. Also air tightness test based on KS M 3511-2 has been performed to evaluate perfectness of wrap fusion quality and we found there were no pressure drop up to 10 times higher value than KS standard regulation.

  • 콘센트-플러그는 사용자부하에 전기를 공급하기 위하여 필수적으로 사용하는 전기부품이다. 활선상태인 콘센트-플러그를 임의로 차단할 경우, 교류환경에서는 반주기 마다 전류의 영점이 존재하므로 차단접점에서 발생하는 아크가 자연적으로 소호될 수 있으나 직류환경에서는 개방직전 전류가 영점을 포함하지 않고 일정하기 때문에 그에 따라 발생하는 아크는 교류에 비해 지속적이고 상대적으로 매우 큰 에너지를 방출한다. 교류에서 사용되는 플러그와 콘센트를 그대로 직류에서 사용 할 경우, 접속이 끊어 질 때 매우 큰 아크전류가 발생하여 플러그와 콘센트의 전극이 녹아서 붙는 융착 사고가 빈번히 발생한다. 본 논문은 콘센트-플러그의 융착 사고를 예방하기 위해 전극의 초기-후기접점 기법을 제안한다. 이를 구현하기 위한 기초적인 연구로서 초기-후기접점 저항을 2단계로 구분하여 접속 및 차단 시 중간단계의 접촉저항을 통하여 부하전류가 단계적으로 바뀔 수 있도록 함으로써 최종 차단 아크전류를 감소시키는 방법을 제안하고 실험을 통하여 성능을 분석하고 설계방법을 제시한다.

  • Two-layer self bonding insulating tape consists of butyl rubber(IIR ; Isobutylene-isoprene rubber) adhesive layer and polyethylene protective film. Butyl rubber have inherent characteristics such as resistance to corrosion and water, low temperature flexibility, excellent electrical insulating properties also resistance to environmental effect such as ozone and ultraviolet. Polyethylene film was used for the purpose of good insulating properties and resistance to ozone and ultraviolet. The tape was manufactured using extrusion and calender method.

Electrofusion Joining Technology for Polyethylene Pipes Using Carbon Fiber (탄소섬유를 이용한 Polyethylene배관의 전기융착 기술)

  • Fuel gas is an important energy source that is being increasingly used because of the convenience and clean energy provided. Natural gas is supplied to consumers safely through an underground gas-pipe network made of a polyethylene material. In electrofusion, which is one of the joining methods used, copper wire is used as the heating wire. However, it takes a long time for fusion to occur because the electrical resistance of copper is low. In this study, therefore, electrofusion was conducted by replacing the copper heating wire with carbon fiber to reduce the fusion time and improve the production when joining large pipes. Fusion and tensile tests were performed after the electrofusion joint was made in the polyethylene pipe using carbon fiber. The results showed that the fusion time was shorter and the temperature inside the pipe was higher with an increase in the current value. The ultimate tensile strength of specimens was higher than that of virgin polyethylene pipe, except for polyethylene pipes joined using a current of 0.8 A. The best fusion current value was 0.9 or 1.0 A because of the short fusion time and lack of transformation inside the pipe. Thus, it was shown that carbon fiber can be used to replace the copper heating wire.

대기오염과 접촉부품

  • 대기오염은 인간의 건강에 중요한 영향을 미칠뿐 아니라 공업적으로도 많은 해를 초래하고 있다. 그중 한가지 예가 접촉부품에 대한 것을 열거할 수 있다. 일반적으로 모든 금속재 부품에 대해서도 같은 영향을 주나 접촉부품에서는 접촉저항 특성을 중요시하기 때문에 대기오염의 영향은 직접적으로 민감하게 미친다고 볼 수 있다. 접촉부품은 전기회로를 개폐, 절환 또는 이탈시키는 작용을 하며, 크게 나누어 개폐, 정지및 접동등 세가지 형식으로 분류할 수 있다. 이러한 견지에서 대부분의 전자장치및 전기기기에는 접촉부품이 어떠한 형태로서든지 사용하게 되며, 또한 중요한 기능과 역할을 담당하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이러한 접촉부품에서 접점의 성능은 일반적으로 접촉저항특성, 융착특성 및 소모전이 특성 등 여러 특성으로 요약할 수 있으며 특히 소형화의 경향이 있는 접촉부에 대해서는 접촉저항특성이 중요한 요소가 된다. 일반용의 금속과 같은 과정으로 접촉부금속도 주위 분위기의 기체와 반응을 하여 접촉면에 여러 오염피막을 발생시킨다. 이러한 오염피막은 일반적으로 높은 전기저항을 표시하기 때문에 접촉저항특성을 현저하게 나쁘게 할 것이다. 이러한 입장에서 정밀하고 신뢰성 있어야 할 접촉부품이 대기오염으로 인하여 전기적성질이 저하되어 예기치 못하였든 사고발생을 추정해야 할 시기가 우리나라에도 도래한 것 같으며 공업단지내의 공장에 종사하는 기술자는 적어도 이러한 문제를 고려해야 하겠기애 몇가지 사항에 대하여 간단히 기술하고자 한다.

A study for detection of melt flow zone about polyethylene butt fusion joints (폴리에틸렌 배관 버트융착부 열용융거리 측정에 대한 연구)

  • Polyethylene pipes has useful benefits which are anti-corrosive and flexible material, so it is used to gas pipes but also class 3 water pipes of nuclear power plant, process pipes of petrochemical plant and chemical plant. So the usage of polyethylene pipes is widely increased. But it has been limited for the usage of polyethylene, because it can not be directly detected to fusion joints by using non destructive evaluation. Polyethylene pipes are connected by two methods, one is butt fusion and the other is electrofusion. Butt fusion is widely used to connecting the pipes. It is proposed to method for determining the reliability of joints in this study that is detection of the melt flow zone at fusion joints. In this study, middle density polyethylene is used, outside diameter of the test specimen is 225mm and thickness is 20.5mm. Speed of ultrasonic of this test specimen is 2,200m/s. Test specimens were fabricated by varying the heating time which means from 0% to 130% applying time through heating plate to polyethylene for detecting melt flow zone. Also 4 additional test specimens were made, one was made that not scrapping attached surface of pipes but applying 100% of the proper heating time and the others were made to include of soil, gravel and vinly tape paper at fusion joints, that were also applied 100% of proper heating time. Ultrasonic testing to measure the melt flow zone of 20 test specimens was conducted by using 3.5MHz and 5.0MHz ultrasonic probes and melt flow zone measuring was conducted to three times at different point to one specimen. To differentiate the melt flow zone signal, post image processing was equally conducted to all test results and image levels, contrast, sharpen, threshold were adopted to all teat results and the test results were displayed gray scale. From the results, for the shorter heating times the reflection area of multiple echo have been increased, so the data was obtained from the position where it can be eliminated as much as possible. At 80% of proper heating time(168 sec.), the signal of melt flow zone was obtained clearly, so measuring could be conducted. From 7% of proper heating time(15 sec.) to shorter heating times. we could not obtain the signal because test specimen was not fused. From the result, we can verify that measuring of melt flow zone by using phased array ultrasonic imaging method is possible. And we can verify to complete and incomplete butt fusion by measuring the melt flow zone.
