Electrochemical Behavior of Oxovanadium (IV) Complex of Benzohydroxamic Acid (옥소바나듐 (IV) 과 벤조히드로옥사믹산 간에 형성되는 착물의 전기화학적 성질에 관한 연구)

  • The redox properties of benzophydroxamic acid (Hben) and its oxovanadium complex, $VO(Ben)_2$ has been studied by the use of polarograpy and cyclic voltammetry. The radical anions of Hben seem to be generated in acetone. The wave at -0.05V vs. Ag/AgCl electrode might be attributed to the formation of radical anion and the wave at -1.78V vs. Ag/AgCl electrode might be attributed the formation of radical dianion. The $VO(Ben)_2$ exhibits one oxidation wave at + 0.55V and two reduction waves at -0.15V and -1.30V vs. Ag/AgCl electrode; the oxidation is reversible one electron process $(VO(ben)_2 {\rightleftharpoons} VO(ben)^+ + e)$. The reduction wave at -0.15V is quasireversible and is arised from the formation of radical anion,$VO(Ben)_2^-$. The second reduction wave at -1.30V is irreversible and this reduction process produces vanadium(III). This oxygen containing ligand of Hben seems to reduce the stability of + 4 oxidation state of vanadium while the sulfur or nitrogen donor of the ligands stabilize the + 4 oxidation state of vanadium when comparisons are made among several oxovanadium complexes.

Effect of a Bonding Layer between Electrodes on the Performance of a λ/4-Mode PVDF Ultrasound Transducer (λ/4 모드 PVDF 초음파 트랜스듀서에 있어서 전극 사이의 접합층이 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of a bonding layer on the performance of a quarter-wave (${\lambda}/4$) mode PVDF ultrasound transducer having not only a piezoelectric layer but also a non-piezoelectric layer between two electrodes was analyzed. The equivalent circuit of a transmission line model by Kikuchi et al.[Sound of IEICE, 55-A, 331-338 (1981)] was introduced for the analysis. The validity of the model was confirmed by comparison with a KLM model for three postulated adhesion cases of a $80{\mu}m$ thick piezoelectric PVDF film to a copper (Cu) backer. The pulse-echo responses of five PVDF transducers, each fabricated with a different thickness ($5{\mu}m{\sim}20{\mu}m$) of the bonding layer, were measured and the results were compared with those by simulation. The two results were in good agreement with each other and it was noted that the effect of the bonding layer on the performance of the transducer could be analyzed by the Kikuchi model. In detail, the $20{\mu}m$ bonding layer decreased the center frequency and the bandwidth by about 19.7 % and 25.0 %, respectively, and increased the insertion loss by 57.2 %.

  • Pyroprocess for treating spent nuclear fuels has been developed based on electrochemical principles. Process simulation is one of the important methods for process development and experimental data analysis and it is also a necessary approach for pyroprocessing. To date, process simulation of pyroprocessing has been focused on electrorefining and there have been not so many investigations on electrolytic reduction. Electrolytic reduction, unlike electrorefining, includes specific features of gas evolution and porous electrode and, thus, different equations should be considered for developing a model for the process. This study summarized required concepts and equations for electrolytic reduction model development from thermodynamic, mass transport, and reaction kinetics theories which are necessitated for analyzing an electrochemical cell. An electrolytic reduction cell was divided and equations for each section were listed and, then, boundary conditions for connecting the sections were indicated. It is expected that those equations would be used as a basis to develop a simulation model for the future and applied to determine parameters associated with experimental data.

  • This study was conducted to develope a capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducer (cMUT) which enable to high efficient non-contact transmit and receive the ultrasonic wave in air. Theoretical analysis and finite element analysis of the behavior of membrane (such as resonance frequency, membrane deflection, collapse deflection and collapse voltage) of the cMUT were performed. The design parameters of the cMUT such as the dimension and thickness of membrane, thickness of sacrificial layer, thickness and size of electrode were estimated. The resonance frequency of the membrane increased as the thickness of the membrane increased but decreased as the diameter of the membrane increased. The deflection of the membrane increased as d-c bias voltage increased. The collapse voltage of the membrane was analyzed.

  • In this study, we have evaluated the effect of amplitude and frequency perturbation of EGG signal for single vowels associated with laryngeal pathology. The normal EGG signal was properly characterized by an autoregressive model which has an optimal order of ninth using the parametric method. This can be analyzed by determining the transfer function. Perturbations in the fundamental pitch and in the peak amplitude of EGG signal measured with a four-electrode system using the modulation/demodulation techniques were investigated for the purpose of developing a decision criteria for the laryngeal function analysis. The abnormal EGG signal has nonperiodic and unstable characteristics. It can be discriminated by the calculation of opening and closing time of glottis using the EGG signal. In case of normal and abnormal subjects, m$\pm$0.5*sd was discriminating line for frequency perturbation and m$\pm$2*sd for normal amplitude perturbations, respectively. Also, The normal and abnormal cases of the subjects can be discriminated effectively using the pattern of attractor derived with Hilbert transform of EGG signal.

A Study on the Band Characteristics of ZnSe Thin Film with Zinc-blende Structure (Zinc Blende 구조를 가지는 ZnSe 결정의 밴드 특성에 관한 연구)

  • ZnSe, as a II-VI compound semiconductor which has a wide band gap in the visible region is applicable to the various fields such as laser diode, display and solar cell. By using the electrochemical deposition method, ZnSe thin film was synthesized on the ITO glass substrate. The synthesis of ZnSe grains and their structure having zinc blende shape were verified through the analysis of XRD and SEM. UV spectrophotometric method determined the band gap as the value of 2.76 eV. Applying the DFT (Density Functional Theory) in the molecular dynamics, the band structure of ZnSe grains was analyzed. For ZnSe grains with zinc blende structure, the band structure and its density of state were simulated using LDA (Local Density Approximation), PBE (Perdew Burke Ernzerhof), and B3LYP (Becke, 3-parameter, Lee-Yang-Parr) functionals. Among the calculations of energy band gap upon each functional, the simulated one of 2.65 eV based on the B3LYP functional was mostly near by the experimental measurement.

  • X-cut y-propagation $LiNbO_{3}$ optical modulator is analyzed by finite element calculation. the purpose of this trial is the design of wide-bandwidth x-cut $LiNbO_{3}$ optical modulator with ridge wave guide, which was only applied to z-cut $LiNbO_{3}$ optical modulator. the simulation tool is examined by the comparison between our results and Becker's. And we consider the optimum position of optical waveguide to electrodes for decreasing the driving voltage. The calculated driving-voltage, characteristic impedance and microwave effective index at $1.3{\mu}{\textrm{m}}$ optical wavelength are 18 V.cm, $48.13{\Omega}$ and 2.168, respectively.

  • In this study, a cantilevered energy harvester comprising piezoelectric fiber and epoxy composites was designed and analyzed electro-mechanically. In order to maximize the power of the cantilevered energy harvester, its exciting frequency was tuned to the first natural frequency of the beam. An efficient analysis method for predicting the output voltage of the beam was developed by using the finite element method coupled with piezoelectric behavior. By using this method, the effects of geometric parameters and various piezoelectric materials on power generation were investigated and the electric characteristics were evaluated. Design optimization of the beam geometries was performed for a base model. The optimum MFC design generated a maximum electric output of 40.1 V at a first natural frequency of 24.5 Hz.

  • The purpose of the study is to develop an improved pitch extraction method that can be used in a variety of speech applications such as high-puality compression and vocoding, and recognition and synthesis of speech. To do so, we develop a new electroglottograph (EGG) measurement system that is based on the four modulation-demodulation type spot electrodes for detecting the EGG signals. Then, the glottal closure instant(GCI) is determined from the EGG signals on a real-time basis. We can obtain the pitch contour using the information on the GCI. It turns out that the new pitch contour algorithm (PCA) operates more reliably as compared to the conventional speech-only-based algorithm. In addition, we study the speech source models and glottal vibratory patterns for Koreans by measuring and analyzing the diversified vibration patterns of the vocal from the EGG signals.

  • Silt or clay alluvium fully saturated with water generally shows low resistivity. Sometimes it is believe that the low resistivity layer is considered as good aquifer but this makes problems in the development of groundwater. To overcome this problem, we adopted induced-polarization(IP) method with resistivity method. Laboratory experiments and resistivity/IP field surveys with non-polarization electrodes were conducted for the study. Laboratory experiments shows that the increase of clay contents in the sample mixed with sand and clay give low resistivity and high chargeability. We used this experiment results in the interpretation of resistivity/IP field data which were obtained in riverbank filtration. Finally, the layer which has low resistivity and chargeabilty would be regarded as a good aquifer for the development of groundwater intake.
