  • A rigorous analysis of the scattering problem by the perfectly conducting strip loaded with a dielectric cylinder of different permittivity is presented. By introducing auxiliary electromagnetic fields and applying the reciprocity theorem, integral equations for the unknown electric field are derived. These integral equations are transformed into an equivalent matrix equation of infinite order with proper boundary conditions. By calculating inverse matrix of unknown coefficients from this equation, scattered electric fields are determined. In particular case of the dielectric with the same permittivity, the results of this paper correspond to well-known results.

  • Dielectric cover effect of rectangular microstrip patch antenna on uniaxial substrates with airgap are studied. First, we derive Dyadic Green function for selected anisotropic material by constitutive relation and then formulate integral equations of electric fields using Fourier transform in space region. Using Galerkin's moment method, we discretize the electric field integral equations into the matrix form and select sinusoidal functions as basis functions. We verify the validity of numerical results and compare the results with existing ones in showing a good agreement between them. When the dielectric cover thickness is varied, the resonant frequencies and input impedances in the variation of air gap, patch length and thickness and permittivity of superstrate are presented and analyzed.

  • In this paper, in order to obtain the statistic information for parameters of electric and magnetic field waveforms associated with lightning discharges, the electric and magnetic fields produced by lightning discharges in the summer of 1995 were measured by a hemisphere-type electric field sensor and a loop-type magnetic field sensor, which were installed at the campus of Inha University in Inchon. The signals of the electric and magnetic fields were continuously recorded by a transient digitizer having a resolution of 12 bit and a memory capacity of 5000 point. Negative lightning discharges are produced very more than positive lightning discharges in the summer of Korea. The 10 to 90 % rise time of electric and magnetic fields was 2 $2\;{\sim}\;10\;{\mu}s$. And the zero-crossing time of electric field was $15\;{\sim}\;25\;{\mu}s$, whereas that of magnetic field was $20\;{\sim}\;30\;{\mu}s$.

  • For the rather complicated and time-consuming three-dimensional electric field calculation in the vicinity of substations, this paper proposes a numerical calculation method based on charge simulation method(CSM). In order to represent non-uniform charge distribution on an electrode better, it is subdivided into small segments with linear charge density. Non-uniform arrangement of subdivided segments makes it possible to obtain high accuracy with a small number of variables. As for the arrangement of subdivided segments, effective formulars were derived from multiple regression analysis of many simulations. These formulars make the arrangement of segments fast and effective. The proposed method is applied to the electric field calculation around the 345kV Sinmasan Substation busbars and the distribution of calculated electric fields is compared with that of the measured electric fields.

  • In this paper, we have presented the simulation results about threshold voltage at Si-based MOSFETs with channel length of nano scale. We simulated the Si-based n-channel MOSFETS with sate lengthes from 180 to 30 nm in accordance to constant voltage scaling theory. These MOSFETs had the lightly doped drain(LDD) structure, which is used for the reduction of electric field magnitude and short channel effects at the drain region. The stronger electric field at this region it due to scaling down. We investigated and analysed the threshold voltage of these devices. This analysis will provide insight into some applicable limitations at the ICs and used for basis data at VLSI.

  • In this paper, a microstrip patch antenna was analyzed by using FDTD method. Firstly, the electric field in the microstrip patch antenna was obtained by approximating a Maxwell's equation to a finite difference equation by means of Yee's algorithm. In this case, Mur's 1st approximation and dispersive boundary condition(BBC) were applied to an absorbing boundary condition. We also analyzed a single microstrip patch antenna by using the FDTD method, then calculating the propagative process in the wave of a return loss. Also, as the result that FDTD was applied to 2-array antenna designed to increase the gain of antenna, the measured results was in relatively good accordance with the values calculated by the FDTD method. The calculated impedance, return loss and VSWR were comparatively good. And these results were In relatively good accordance with the measured values.

  • The proposed print antenna using Finite Difference Time Domain(FDTD) method is analyzed in this paper. A low radiation resistance and an ultra-wide band of this antenna are also presented. The propagation process of the reflected wave and the electric field distribution in the time domain are calculated in respectively. The antenna parameters are optimized for the maximum band width, return loss, input impedance, and radiation pattern in the frequency domain using Fourier transforming. The experimental bandwidth of the antenna is 1.85GHz~6.35GHz for the VSWR less than or equal to 2.0. The measured results are relatively in good agreement with the FDTD results. The proposed antenna can be applied to various applications such as UWB, broadcasting-network system.

  • The distribution of the space debris caused by any source affects the DBS & FSS wave propagation for satellite communication. In this paper, the normalized expansion coefficients are evaluated with varying the volume distribution density of space debris and the operating frequency, and then the attenuation and phase shift are calculated by using the normalized expansion coefficients. Conclusively, the attenuation and phase shift are mostly affected with the real and imaginary part of the amplitude function, respectively, which represented by electric field component of the Bessel function. The results of this paper adapted for the design of the link budget for satellite communication system and the reconsideration of space environment as the space debris increses by geometric progression.

  • The electromagnetic fields of the corrugated annular feed-horn antenna have been analyzed exactly by using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) technique. The radiation pattern and return loss characteristics of the antenna were obtained as a function of the impedance of feeding coaxial line at 11.8GHz. The return loss was determined to be less than -25dB at 30$\Omega$. It was confirmed that the phase error is less compared to that of the antenna without corrugation, but the directivity of the radiation pattern needs to be improved.

  • During the EFT immunity test, the fast transient voltage is injected to the power or signal line. The radiated noise from these lines influences the near-by EUT, and consequently, the reliability of the test result can be jeopardized. The measured data of the field strength and wave shape of the noise were compared with the result of the mathematical analysis using transmission line model. When the tests were performed by the conditions the same as stated in IEC 61000-4-4, the results showed that the magnitude of the radiated electric field strength was about 2.4KV/m, and it can cause severe interference to the intended operation of EUT.
