Recognition Performance Improvement of QR and Color Codes Posted on Curved Surfaces (곡면상에 부착된 QR 코드와 칼라 코드의 인식률 개선)

  • Currently, due to the widespread use of a smartphone, QR codes allow users to access a variety of added services. However, the QR codes posted on curved surfaces tend to be non-uniformly illuminated and bring about the decline of recognition rate. So, in this paper, the block-adaptive binarization policy is adopted to find an optimal threshold appropriate for bimodal image like QR codes. For a large block, its histogram distribution is found to get an initial threshold and then the block is partitioned to reflect the local characteristics of small blocks. Also, morphological operation is applied to their neighboring boundary at the discontinuous at the QR code junction. This paper proposes an authentication method based on the color code, uniquely painted within QR code. Through a variety of practical experiments, it is shown that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional method in detecting QR code and also maintains good recognition rate up to 40 degrees on curved surfaces.

  • Self-adaptive software is software that adapts by itself to system requirements about the recognized problems without stopping the software cycle. In order to reduce the unnecessary adaptation in the system having the critical points, we propose proactive approach which can predict the future operation after a critical point. In this paper, we predict the future operation after a critical point using a hybrid model to deal with the characteristics of the observed data with the linear and non-linear pattern. The operation of the prediction method is determined on a timing decision indicator based on the prediction accuracy. The two main points of contributions of this paper are to reduce uncertainty about the future operation by predicting the situation after a critical point using hybrid model and to reduce unnecessary adaptation implementation by deciding a timing based on a timing decision indicator.

  • In this paper, the new location management scheme based on region and movement threshold has been proposed in order to minimize the required cost to handle the resource location management signaling traffics under the wire/wireless convergent networks when the users are moving around the cold and hot regions. In this scheme, the sequential paging is supposed to be performed according to the movement threshold which can be changed in accordance with the number of movements that each mobile user had made while it is moving around the resource regions. With the proposed scheme, the cost of managing the location management traffics and efficient spectrum assignment overhead can be minimized by placing signaling traffics for location managements and also allocating radio spectrum considering individual movement behaviors.

  • 제3세대 이동 통신 시스템에서 상향 링크와 하향 링크 사이에 불균형적인 타임 슬롯 할당이 가능한 TD/CDMA TDD 시스템은 비대칭적인 트래픽을 효과적으로 분배하는데 적합하다. 게다가 TD/CDMA TDD 시스템은 슬롯이 시간 영역과 코드 영역에서 정의되기 때문에 유효 자원의 statistical multiplexing이 매우 효과적이다. 그러나 상향 링크와 하향 링크사이의 트래픽의 비대칭성을 반영하기 위해서 타임 슬롯을 최적으로 할당시킬 수 있는 동적 경계선이 요구된다. 본 논문에서 슬롯의 하향 링크부분이 이동국의 접근 시도의 정도에 따라 최대화되는 새로운 최적의 TDD 경계선 제어 움직임 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 제안된 알고리즘에서 이동국의 평균 접근 시도가 미리 정의된 상한 임계치를 초과할 경우, TDD 경계선은 평균 접근 시도가 다른 하한 임계치 아래로 내려갈 때까지 프레임의 중앙에 위치한다. 본 논문에서 모의실험 결과를 통하여 제안된 알고리즘이 기존의 TDD 경계선 알고리즘보다 데이터 트래픽의 평균 접근 지연과 음성 트래픽의 블록킹 확률 측면에서 훨씬 더 좋은 성능을 나타냄을 입증하였다.

  • The denoising for image restoration based on the Wavelet Packet with absolute average threshold is presented. The Existing method is used standard deviation estimated results in increasing the noise and threshold, and damaging an image quality. In addition that is decreased image restoration PSNR by using the same threshold in spite of changing image because of installing a threshold in proportion of noise size. In contrast, the absolute average threshold with wavelet packet is adapted by changing image to set up threshold by statistic quantity of resolved image and is avoided an extreme impart. The results on the experiment has improved 10% and 5% over than the denoising based on simple wavelet transform and wavelet packet respectively.

  • The error diffusion method is one of the digital halftoning processes that transforms the continuous-tone image to the binary image and the method has the excellent reproduction ability. However the error diffusion method using the permanent threshold has difficulty in proper binarization, so the method has the periodic pattern and is unpleasant to the eye. In this paper, to reduce defects and to binarize properly, we propose the error diffusion method using the adaptive threshold. Depending on the intensity distribution of the input gray scale image, we decided on the adaptive threshold with the average of the intensities. The error diffusion method with the adaptive threshold has the better performance than the existing method and is evaluated with experiments and comparisons.

  • Nuclear medicine images (SPECT, PET) were widely used tool for assessment of myocardial viability and perfusion. However it had difficult to define accurate myocardial infarct region. The purpose of this study was to investigate methodological approach for automatic measurement of rat myocardial infarct size using polar map with adaptive threshold. Rat myocardial infarction model was induced by ligation of the left circumflex artery. PET images were obtained after intravenous injection of 37 MBq $^{18}F$-FDG. After 60 min uptake, each animal was scanned for 20 min with ECG gating. PET data were reconstructed using ordered subset expectation maximization (OSEM) 2D. To automatically make the myocardial contour and generate polar map, we used QGS software (Cedars-Sinai Medical Center). The reference infarct size was defined by infarction area percentage of the total left myocardium using TTC staining. We used three threshold methods (predefined threshold, Otsu and Multi Gaussian mixture model; MGMM). Predefined threshold method was commonly used in other studies. We applied threshold value form 10% to 90% in step of 10%. Otsu algorithm calculated threshold with the maximum between class variance. MGMM method estimated the distribution of image intensity using multiple Gaussian mixture models (MGMM2, ${\cdots}$ MGMM5) and calculated adaptive threshold. The infarct size in polar map was calculated as the percentage of lower threshold area in polar map from the total polar map area. The measured infarct size using different threshold methods was evaluated by comparison with reference infarct size. The mean difference between with polar map defect size by predefined thresholds (20%, 30%, and 40%) and reference infarct size were $7.04{\pm}3.44%$, $3.87{\pm}2.09%$ and $2.15{\pm}2.07%$, respectively. Otsu verse reference infarct size was $3.56{\pm}4.16%$. MGMM methods verse reference infarct size was $2.29{\pm}1.94%$. The predefined threshold (30%) showed the smallest mean difference with reference infarct size. However, MGMM was more accurate than predefined threshold in under 10% reference infarct size case (MGMM: 0.006%, predefined threshold: 0.59%). In this study, we was to evaluate myocardial infarct size in polar map using multiple Gaussian mixture model. MGMM method was provide adaptive threshold in each subject and will be a useful for automatic measurement of infarct size.

A Fast Motion Estimation Algorithm Using Adaptive Elimination of Sub-block Partial Coefficient (서브블록 부분 계수 적응제거를 통한 고속 움직임 추정 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose a fast motion estimation algorithm using adaptive elimination of sub-block partial coefficients. The proposed algorithm predicts an adaptive threshold for each sub-block by using relationship of an initial sum of absolute difference(SAD) and a minimum SAD at the current point, and efficiently reduces unnecessary calculation time of the conventional partial distortion elimination(PDE) algorithm with the predicted threshold. Our algorithm reduces about 60% of computations of the conventional PDE algorithm without any degradation of prediction quality compared with the con ventional full search. Additionally, the proposed algorithm can be applied to other fast motion estimation 떠gorithms. the proposed Our proposing algorithm will be useful to real-time video coding applications using MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 AVC standards.

  • 영상회의 시스템과 같은 멀티미디어 데이터 통신에서 스케일러빌리티 및 점진적인 전송을 구현하기 위해서 웨이브릿 기반의 영상을 부호화한다. 웨이브릿 기반의 동영상 부호화 기법인 SAMCoW 알고리즘은 움직임이 보상된 오차 영상의 웨이브릿 변환 계수들의 특성으로 인해 제로 트리의 무효 계수 예측이 효과적이지 못하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 직교 웨이브릿(Forward Orthogonal wavelet)을 기반으로 스케일러빌리티 및 점진적인 전송을 지원하며, 움직임이 보상된 오차 영상의 효율적인 부호화를 위해 적응적 임계치를 이용한 대역 확산 부호화 알고리즘을 제안한다.
