Inheritance of Resistance to Gall Mite(Eriophys macrodonis) in Boxthorn (Lycium chinese) Cultivars (구기자품종의 구기자혹응애 저항성 유전)

  • The inheritance of resistance to gall mite(Eriophys macrodonis) in boxthorn cultivars was studied with plants infected in open field. Segregation of the F$_1$ generation from crosses between resistant cultivars(Japan 1 and China 1) and susceptible line(CL42-56) hits a 3 resistant : 1 susceptible ratio, and the segregation ratio was 15 : 1 in cross between Japan 1 and China 1. It is concluded that gall mite resistance seemed to be controlled by two duplicate genes(El and E2), such that E1e1E2e2 symbolize the genotypes of China 1 and Japan 1. However, F, generation from Chungyanggugiza and CL42-56 cross did not showed clear segregation pattern but continuous variation was observed against gall mite resistance when resistance was determined on the basis of the percentage of galled leaves. Results indicated that the inheritance of resistance in Chungyanggugiza may be polygenic and complex. Also, Japan 1 and China 1 has a strong potential as a source of gall mite resistance, and Chungyanggugiza showing less resistance still has a valuable source.

Studies on Genetice of Blast Resistance in Rice L Inheritance of Resistance to Specific Races of Blast Fungus and Relationship between Their Resistance and II, VIII, XI and XII Linkage Groups in Some Rice Varieties (수도품종의 도열병 저항성 유전분석 제1보 특정 도열병 균계에 대한 저항성 품종들의 저항성 유전분리와 II, VIII, XI 및 XII번 연관과의 관계)

  • In order to study the genetic system of the blast resistant varieties, the conidial suspension of mutant races of T-2$^{+t}$, N-2$^{+t}$, C-8$^{+t}$ was inoculated at 4-5 leaf stage by injector for F_2 seedlings from the crosses between seven resistant varieties and four maker lines easily detectable at seedling stage. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The fertility of cross between Semi-dwaf testers and Indica resistant varieties except Carreon was about 74 percents. 2. The segregation modes of resistance varied with varieties and blast races. However, the resistance was expressed as dominance in all cases. Tetep, Tadukan and Carreon showed more complicated segregation for resistance than that of the bred lines. 3. For blast races used, four segregation ratios such as 3:1, 9:7, 13:3 and 37:27 were found in the Tatukan, Tetep, and IR747, and three segregation ratios such as 3:1, 13:3 and 15:1 in the Carreon, and two segregation ratios of 3:1 and 13:3 with Suweon 287, Suweon 288, and Iri342. 4. In the segregation of the resistance to the each races, the ratios of 3:1, 13:3, 15:1 were fitted to T-2$^{+t}$, and the ratios of 3:1, 13:3, 9:7 and 37:27 to N-2$^{+t}$ and C-8$^{+t}$. 5. Suweon 287, Suweon 288 and Iri342 carried one simple dominant gene and inhibitor gene was considered in some cross combinations. Meanwhile Tadukan, Tetep and IR747 seemed to carry one to three resistant genes, and in some cross combinations, the expression of these genes were simple dominant, inhibiting, duplicating and complimentary action. 6. Resistance genes to blast races, T-2$^{+t}$, N-2$^{+t}$ and C-8$^{+t}$ in the Tadukan, Tetep, Carreon, Suweon 287, Suweon 288 and Iri342 were found to be independent with the linkage group of II(lg), VIII(la), XI(bc), and XII(gl).bc), and XII(gl).

  • In order to analyze the resistant gene to Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae in Korean native rices. Six Korean native rice varieties were crossed with IR-BB 101 contains Xa1 resistant gene and inoculated Japanese isolates IA(T7174). Cheonggunbyeo has Xa1 resistant gene only, and Yukseongjaerae, Agukdo, Heukpi and Icheon7ilchal have Xa1 and another one dominant gene. Ginggaragshare has Xa1 and another two dominant genes and two of those genes concerned complementary interaction against Japanese isolates IA(T7174).

Inheritance of Insecticide Resistance to Plant- and Leaf-hoppers Inherited Properties of MEP Resistance to Small Brown Plant-hopper (Laodelphax striatellus Fallen) (멸구 매미충류에 대한 약제저항성의 유전성에 관한 연구 I. 애멸구의 MEP제에 대한 약제저항성의 유전적 특성)

  • The study was conducted to determine the inherited properties of the MEB resistance to natural population of the small brown plant-hopper(Laodelphax striatelluss). The plant-hoppers were collected from the natural population of Naju area where the highest insecticide resistance of MEF to the green rice leaf hopper (Nephotettix cincticeps) have been examined in 1976. And Naju collections were crossed to the susceptible Lab stock to examine the MEP resistance in the $F_1,\;BC_1F_1\;and\;F_2$ and $F_2$ populations. Ail the data were analyzed by the probit method. There was a difference in MEP resistance between Naju collection and susceptible Lab stock, showing $LD_{50}$ value of the former was 0.0029ug/insect compared to 0.0008ug/insect for the later. The $LD_{50}$ values and dosage-mortality lines of the $F_1$ and $BC_1F_1$ tended to close their resistant parent. and it was considered that the character of the MEP resistance in the Naju collection of the small brown plant hopper was controlled by the genetic traits. However, $LD_{50}$ value and dosasage-mortality lines of the $F_2$ populations were intermediate to their parents, it would be conclusive that the trait will be governed by a interaction of the genes or factors rather than the single genic control.

  • Occurrence of tomato late blight (Phytophthora infestans) has caused significant losses in tomato yield in all over the world. Evaluation of the level of resistance in tomato gene resources for main breeding and initiation of the resistance breeding program are important for control of this disease. Resistant assay of 78 tomato cultivars/lines to late blight in pots and field experiment was carried out under controlled and natural conditions in 2009. All commercial cultivars including 'Legend' were susceptible. However, 10 lines including KNU-2, KNU-6-1, KNU-11, KNU-13, KNU-14-1 lines distributed from University of California, Riverside and L3708, $AV107-4{\times}L3708$, $07-15{\times}L3708$, $BS67{\times}L3708$ lines which have resistant gene Ph-3 and $06-9-62A{\times}06-9-62A$ were highly resistant to late blight. These highly resistant lines can be used as resources of resistance to late blight in a tomato breeding program in future.

  • The profenofos-resistant P-Pro strain of house fly (Muscn domestica L.) was derived from the pyraclofos-resistant strain by selecting with profenofos for 7 generations. The resistance was shown to be incompletely dominant by the reciprocal crosses between the resistant and susceptible strains. Linkage group analysis for the dominant factor responsible for this resistance was carried out by the F, male-backcross method, using susceptible multi-chromosomal marker strain. The major factors for profenofos resistance were located on the second and the fifth chromosome and the other chromosomes had a little effect on the development of this resistance. The male determining factor (M) was linked to the third chromosome in this strain.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate tomato plant resistance against bacterial wilt by Ralstonia solanacearum using tomato cultivars or tomato breeding lines maintained in RDA-Genebank of Rural Development Administration and to select resistant tomato lines for breeding purpose. We evaluated the disease responses of a total of 13 cultivars and 39 breeding lines from RDA-Genebank using R. solanacearum SL341 strain, which is a representative strain in Korea. Tomato cultivar Hawaii 7996 and Moneymaker were used as a resistant control plant and a susceptible control plant, respectively. A total of 32 cultivars were susceptible and 10 cultivars showed various disease response suggesting resistant phenotype segregation in the lines. Five commercial cultivars and 5 breeding lines exhibited strong resistance to bacterial wilt by the SL341 strain. These 5 breeding lines might be used for further study of plant defense response against bacterial wilt and cloning of the resistance gene from tomato plants. Ultimately, the selected lines could be used for tomato breeding to generate bacterial wilt resistant tomato plants.

  • Rice blast is one of the most serious disease threatening stable production of rice. Breeding of resistant cultivars has been used as the most effective and useful method to controll rice blast caused by Magnaporthe oryzae. To collect rice blast isolates in fields and test their pathogenicity on new cultivars are important for establishment of new resistant cultivars breeding program of rice. Pathotypes of Korean rice blast isolates have been categorized to Korean differential race system developed in 1985. However, it is little known about genetic background of Korean differential cultivars, so that it is hard to understand for relationship between each pathogen and each host plant at genetic level. In this study, we suggested necessity of a new differential system by analyzing pathogenic responses between 24 monogenic rice lines and 200 Korean rice blast isolates. In addition, we determined the nine representative resistant genes based on the resistance responses of the monogenic lines to rice blast isolates, indexed resistant responses of the monogenic lines to ten representative rice blast isolates and selected 30 Korean representative rice blast isolates proper to Korean system. We think the newly developed differential race system can be broadly used to select resistant cultivars to rice blast in Korea.

Resistance to Two Leaf Spot Diseases of Pepper Genetic Resources Introduced from Mexico and Nepal (멕시코와 네팔도입 고추 유전자원의 두 가지 점무늬병에 대한 저항성)

  • Pepper genetic resources consisting of introductions from Mexico and Nepal and susceptible and resistant controls were tested for resistance to gray leaf spot and to bacterial spot by serially inoculating the two disease pathogens, Stemphylium spp. first and Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria next, with application of fungicide after evaluation of resistance to gray leaf spot first. KC866, KC872, KC902, KC905 were resistant to gray leaf spot in addition to known resistance sources, KC43, KC47, KC220, KC319, KC320, KC380. KC897 was on the top of the resistance sources list, even better than KC177(163192), and was followed by KC889, KC896, KC898, all of which were introductions from Nepal.
