The object of this study considers corrosion fatigue improvement of 7075-T6 aluminum by using shot peening treatment on 3.5% NaCl solution at room temperature. Aluminum alloy is generally used in aerospace structural components because of the light weight and high strength characteristics. Many studies have shown that an aluminum alloy can be approximately 50% lighter than other materials. Mostly, corrosion leads to earlier fatigue crack propagation under tensile conditions and severely reduces the life of structures. Therefore, the technique to improve material resistance to corrosion fatigue is required. Shot peening technology is widely used to improve fatigue life and other mechanical properties by induced compressive residual stress. Even the roughness of treated surface causes pitting corrosion, the compressive residual stress, which is induced under the surface layer of material by shot peening, suppresses the corrosion and increases the corrosion resistance. The experimental results for shot peened specimens were compared with previous work for non treated aluminum alloy. The results show that the shot peening treatment affects the corrosion fatigue improvement of aluminum alloys and the induced compressive residual stress by shot peening treatment improves the resistance to corrosion fatigue.

This study verified the relationship between fracture mechanics parameters(ΔK, ΔK$\sub$eff/, K$\sub$max/) and X-ray parameters (${\alpha}$$\sub$r/, B) for SG365 steel at elevated temperature up to 300$^{\circ}C$. The fatigue crack propagation test were carried out and X-ray diffraction technique according to crack length direction was applied to fatigue fractured surface. The residual stress on the fracture surface was found to increase low ΔK region, reach to a maximum value at a certain value of K$\sub$max/ or ΔK and then decrease. Residual stress were independent on stress ratio by arrangement of ΔK and half value breadth were independent by the arrangement of K$\sub$max/. The equation of ${\alpha}$$\sub$r/ - ΔK was established by the experimental data. Therefore, tincture mechanics parameters could be estimated by the measurement of X-ray parameters.
This study verified the relationship between fracture mechanics parameters$({\Delta}K,\;{\Delta}K_{eff},\;K_{max})$ and X-ray parameters $(\sigma_r,\;B)$ for SG365 steel at elevated temperature up to $300^{\circ}C$. The fatigue crack propagation test were carried out and X-ray diffraction technique according to crack length direction was applied to fatigue fractured surface. The residual stress on the fracture surface was found to increase low ${\Delta}K$ region, reach to a maximum value at a certain value of $K_{max}\;or\;{\Delta}K$ and then decrease. Residual stress were independent on stress ratio by arrangement of ${\Delta}K$ and half value breadth were independent by the arrangement of $K_{max}$. The equation of $\sigma_r-{\Delta}K$ was established by the experimental data. Therefore, fracture mechanics parameters could be estimated by the measurement of X-ray parameters.
Post weld heat treatment(PWHT) is usually carried out to remove the residual stress and to improve the microstructure and mechanical properties of welded joints. By the way, welding structure transformed owing to PWHT and reheating for repair loads the random cycles fatigue as offshore welding structure of constant low cycle fatigue as pressure vessel, and then, pre-existing flaws or cracks exist in a structural component and those cracks grow under cyclic loading. Therefore, the effects of PWHT and stress ratio on fatigue crack growth behaviors were studied on the three regions such as HAZ, sub-critical HAZ and deposit metal of welded joints in SM53 steel. Fatigue crack growth behavior of as-weld depended on microstructure and fatigue crack growth rate of HAZ was the lowest at eac region, but after PWHT it was somewhat higher than that of as-wel. In case of applying the stress($10kg/mm^2$) during PWHT, fatigue crack growth resistance tended to increase in the overall range of .DELTA.K.

Regarding the plate bending process by line heating method, in this study a simplified numerical analysis is performed for a beam model to predict its residual deformation and stress distribution. Using the modified strip theory and beam finite element method, a PC-based simulation program is developed for a thermo-elastic-plastic beam. The plate bending problem can be approximately replaced by a beam model using distributed springs to account for the effect of adjacent strips. The spring constants are chosen as the best fit with experiments. In this paper, it is assumed that the temperature distribution is already given and the temperature-dependent material properties are considered. To verify the simulation program, the results using present numerical algorithm are compared with other published experimental results and similar numerical studies. The comparison shows good agreement. The present PC-based computer program also shows good efficiency in computing time.
Stress softening behaviors of SBR vulcanizates reinforced with silica or carbon black were studied. Two types of SBR with different 1,2-unit contents of 18 and 60 wt% were used and three filler systems of carbon black and silica with/without silane coupling agent were employed. Stress softening behaviors of the SBR vulcanizates were varied with the SBR types as well as the filler systems. The silica-filled rubber specimens had higher residual strains than the carbon black-filled ones. The residual strains of silica-filled vulcanizates were remarkably reduced by adding a silane coupling agent. The maximum loads at 50% maximum stretch of the carbon black-filled vulcanizates were lower than those of the silica-filled ones. On the contrary, the maximum loads at 200% maximum stretch of the carbon black-filled vulcanizates were higher than those of the silica-filled ones. The maximum loads of the specimens with the 1,2-unit content of 60 wt% are higher than those with the 1,2-unit content of 18 wt% irrespective of the filler systems.
The scale effect of specimens on the shear behavior of joints is studied by performing direct shear tests on six different sizes in Granite. The peak and residual shear stress, shear displacement, shear stiffness, and dilation angle are measured with the different normal stress(0.29~2.65MPa) and roughness parameters. It is also shown that both the joint roughness coefficient(JRC) and the joint compression strength(JCS) reduce with increasing joint length. A series of shear tests show about 56~67% reduction in peak shear stress, and about 18~44% in residual shear stress, respectively as the contact area of joint increases from 12.25 to $361cm^2$. Also the variation of dilation angle is $27^{\circ}$ at normal stress of 0.29 MPa and $6^{\circ}$ at normal stress of 2.65 MPa, respectively. The envelopes considering scale effect for JRC are made for the peak shear strength of rock joint in comparison with the Barton's equation.
This paper is an attempt to account for the uncertainty of the residual strength in the reliability analysis of structural systems. For this purpose the stochastic finite element method(SFEM) is linked to the system reliability analysis procedure. The stochastic finite element is known to be able to a more explicitly consider the effect of uncerainties of material and geometric variables on those of load effects in structural analysis procedure. The method has been applied to system as well as component reliability analysis of a plane structure. Comparison of the results by the present approach is made with the method in which the residual strength of failed component is treated as deterministic variable. Several case studies have been carried to show the effect of uncertainty in residual strength of a member after failure. Is has been conformed that reidual strength very much affect the system reliability level. It can be, hence, concluded that the uncertainties in the post-ultirnate behaviour may have to be taken into account in the system reliability analysis for a better a ssessment of the system reliability especially for a structure of which member behaviour is modelled as asemi-brittle model. And then the stochastic finite element method can efficiently evaluate the system reliability.

Annealing were performed to investigate the behaviors of the residual stress remaining on the member of a steel structure. According to the fatigue test, the welding part has higher fatigue crack growth rate than the base metal part because the hardening of welding part reduce fracture toughness. However, the heat treatment decrease the hardness and increase the resistance to failure. Thus, the fatigue crack growth rate is improved and it reaches the minimum at $650^{\circ}C$. Elber' s equation includes the effect of the crack-close so that this equation provides a lower the fatigue crack growth rate than Paris-Erdogan' s equation, the Elber's curves show no significant difference to indentify the effect of the residual stress. The Pop loading along the crack length increases as the hardness goes higher. The heat treatment not only decrease the hardness, and the fatigue crack growth rate, but increase the absorption energy and fracture toughness on the member of a steel structure. As the result, the heat treatment produces the resistant ability to cracking which can reduce the degree of danger to failure.
The most important part in the earth reinforcement is the interface between soil and the reinforcement. Shear strength and shear behavior in this interface make a great role relating to the reinforcement effect. This paper presents 2 kinds of direct shear test methods. one is the strain free shear test, called 'free method', that is performed by the free condition of allowing tensile strain. The other is the strain fix shear test, called 'fixed method', that is performed by the fixed condition of not allowing tensile strain. Two reinforcements were used such as nonwoven geotextile and geogrid. That is, interfaces are composed of geogrid/sand and geotextile/sand. From the test results it shows us that the fixed method had a greater friction angle and a smaller peak shear strain than those of the free method. Residual stress of the fixed method was bigger than that of the free method but the residual stress ratio was vice versa.
