Dynamic Load Management Method for Spatial Data Stream Processing on MapReduce Online Frameworks (맵리듀스 온라인 프레임워크에서 공간 데이터 스트림 처리를 위한 동적 부하 관리 기법)

  • As the spread of mobile devices equipped with various sensors and high-quality wireless network communications functionsexpands, the amount of spatio-temporal data generated from mobile devices in various service fields is rapidly increasing. In conventional research into processing a large amount of real-time spatio-temporal streams, it is very difficult to apply a Hadoop-based spatial big data system, designed to be a batch processing platform, to a real-time service for spatio-temporal data streams. This paper extends the MapReduce online framework to support real-time query processing for continuous-input, spatio-temporal data streams, and proposes a load management method to distribute overloads for efficient query processing. The proposed scheme shows a dynamic load balancing method for the nodes based on the inflow rate and the load factor of the input data based on the space partition. Experiments show that it is possible to support efficient query processing by distributing the spatial data stream in the corresponding area to the shared resources when load management in a specific area is required.

  • Workflow is defined as the automation of a business process, and consists of interrelated workflow tasks. Because many modem business processes nay involve activities that are geographically distributed between different departments or organizations, workflow inherently has the characteristics of distribution. In distributed workflow systems, each workflow task performs its assigned role by utilizing information resources placed at some hosts, and then transmits workflow execution control to the next tasks in a workflow definition. Hence, it is very important to appropriately allocate workflow tasks to hosts for high performance workflow processing. In this paper, we propose a multilevel workflow graph partitioning scheme for efficient placement of workflow tasks. This method can improve the performance of workflow processing by minimizing the remote communication costs occurred during workflow execution.

A Hybrid Cloud-P2P Architecture for Scalable Massively Multiplayer Online Games (확장가능한 대규모 멀티플레이어 온라인 게임을 위한 클라우드와 P2P 하이브리드 구조)

  • Today's massively multiplayer online games(MMOGs) can contain millions of synchronous players scattered across the world and participating with each other within a single shared game. The increase in the number of players in MMOGs has led to some issues with the demand of server which generates a significant increase in costs for the game industry and impacts to the quality of service offered to players. In dealing with a considerable scale of MMOGs, we propose a cloud computing and peer-to-peer(P2P) hybrid architecture in this paper. Given the two nearly independent functionalities of P2P and cloud architectures, we consider the possibility of fusing these two concepts and researching the application of the resultant amalgamation in MMOGs. With an efficient and effective provisioning of resources and mapping of load, the proposed hybrid architecture relieves a lot of computational power and network traffic, the load on the servers in the cloud while exploiting the capacity of the peers. The simulation results show that MMOGs based on the proposed hybrid architecture have better performance and lower traffic received compared with MMOGs based on traditional client-server system.

Real-time Roadmap Generation and Updating Method between Heterogeneous Navigation Systems for Unknown Roads in Cloud Computing Environment (클라우드 환경에서 이기종 네비게이션간 새로운 지도 정보 추출 및 업데이트 방법)

  • Multiple roadmap DB providers are already available in these days, and try to reduce unknown roads in their own roadmaps. However, cooperation models or Win-Win approaches between roadmap providers are not considered yet. Thus, In this paper, We proposed a cloud-oriented real-time roadmap generation and update method between heterogeneous navigation systems for unknown roads. With the proposed method, the roadmap DB providers update the own roadmap DB for navigation systems in real time. Also, they can provide the complete roadmap without unknown roads to users instantly. Therefore, the proposed method can reduce the costs of an actual traveling test and the maintenance for the roadmap DB provides. Thus, the cloud-oriented roadmap generation method can more efficiently update the unknown road information.

Beamforming and User Scheduling for Device-to-Device Underlaying Cellular Networks (셀룰러 네트워크에서 D2D 통신을 고려한 빔 형성 및 스케줄링 기법)

  • In this paper, the beamforming and user scheduling scheme for device-to-device (D2D) underlaying celullar networks with partial channel state information is investigated. In the proposed scheme, cellular users whose channels are nearly orthogonal to the channel between base station and D2D receiver are selected for unitary beamforming so as to minimize the interference to the D2D receiver. The interference caused by underlaying D2D communication can be minimized by reducing the D2D transmitter's transmission power. To enhance the cellular users' throughput further, we also investigate codebook generation method in which each code vector belongs to multiple unitary code matrices. From simulation results, we show that the proposed beamforming and user scheduling scheme mitigates D2D interference to the cellular networks and the codebook generation method improves cellular users' throughput.

  • World Wide Web has potential possibility of infrastructure for parallel computing environment connecting massive computing resources, not just platform to provide and share information via browser. The approach of Web-based parallel computing has many advantages of the ease of accessibility, scalability, cost-effectiveness, and utilization of existing networks. Applet has the possibility of decomposing the independent/parallel task, moving over network, and executing in computers connected in Web, but it lacks in the flexibility due to strict security semantic model. Therefore, in this paper, Web-based parallel computing environment using mobile agent, Aglet (Agile applet) was designed and possible implementation technologies and architecture were analyzed. And simple simulation and analysis was done compared with applet-based approach.

  • In the field of computing service, there is a copernican revolution indebted to development of network & computer technology. Computer system, which is set to mainframe in the 1960's, is advancing torwards to the paradigm of server based computing, so-called thin-client. In thin-client computing, network is the platform which is responsible for transfer of application, so that client execute application installed on server. It is also possible that each system share the computing resource connected with network. In this parer, we suggest component & distributed computing technology as a measn for the implementation of thin-client architecture hence, make the best use of COM(Component Object Model and PYRO(PYthon Remote Objects). We talk about the concept and mechanism of thin-client at the beginning, and propose the design of network architecture for the implementation thin-client.

Performance Analysis of Campus Inter-library Loan on Library Automation (캠퍼스 상호대차서비스 전산화에 따른 성과 분석)

  • Generally, we used to provide ILL to users for overcoming the limited resource and satisfying user's desires for information. ILL makes library service's paradigm change from ownership to sharing. K-university Library has been providing Campus inter-library loan as ILL to users for long time and continually trying to improve the service's quality. This case study is to analysis the performance of campus inter-library loan in the past 9 years. As the related automation system was developed and upgraded, the service requests have been increasing annually. Campus inter-library loan requests were 12% of total book requests in 2001, and then were 75% of total book requests in 2008. The transaction time was reduced until 17% of 2004.

  • On Handoff, existing AP search has chosen one of various APs according to signal strength. However IEEE 802.11 uses Medium Access method with CSMA/CA(Carrier Sensing Multiple Access /Collision Avoidance) that competes to obtain a channel by sharing common medium. For that reason, network performance is heavily affected by the number of nodes and network congestion aside from signal strength. Consequently, in this paper we propose the method that choose one AP which ensures more improved network performance and set up a link, reflecting AP network information in Handoff area, on Handoff in the process of AP selection. We also demonstrate through simulation that it gets maximum performance even in the wireless network which many users concurrently access to, and it has considerable effects on aspects of resources and network management by distribution of users.

Implementation a Philosophy Ontology based on Knowledge of Text Contents (텍스트 내용 지식 기반의 철학 온톨로지 구축)

  • Ontologies are the core components of the Semantic Web and knowledge-based systems. But it is difficult to find useful ontologies in actual domains. In order to build useful domain ontology, the conceptualization of the domain knowledge by knowledge experts of the specific domain and the specification of conceptualized knowledge with formal languages by ontology designers are required. In addition, structured and detailed guidelines and methods should be provided to be shared by the development team members. However, existing ontology building methodologies define and describe the skeletal structure of the whole building process at the top-layer. We build a useful academic ontology that is based on the conceptual knowledge structure in the domain of philosophy, and propose a detailed methodology to build a text ontology based on Topic Maps. Our methodology consists of two phases, ontology modelling and ontology implementation. We implement a philosophy knowledge portal to support retrieving and navigating of the philosophy knowledge.
