Ultraviolet Wave Length Effective in the Sporulation of Didymella bryoniae, a Gummy Stem Blight Fungus in Cucurbits, and the Disease Control Effect by the Use of Ultraviolet Light-Absorbing Vinyl Film (박과작물 덩굴마름병권 Didymella bryoniae의 포자형성 유효 자외파장과 자외선 흡수필름을 이용한 병 방제효과)

  • Ultraviolet light is required for the sporulation of Didymella bryoniae, a gummy stem blight fungus in cucurbits such as watermelon, melon, oriental melon, cucumber and pumpkin. In this experiment, the upper limit of wave length for the production of pycnidia of D. bryoniae was 365 nm - 375 nm. Two plastic houses were covered with either common transparent film (wave length longer than 225 nm is transmitted) or UV-absorbing film ( wave lenght shorter than 388 nm is absorbed). In both houses, seedlings inoculated with D. bryoniae were placed in the center of the house at 30 days after transplantation of watermelon (cv. Whanhoseong), and the disease incidences between the houses were compared until 80 days after transplantation. The number of disease lesions and incidence of pycnidia-producing lesions under the UV-absorbing film were reduced by 90% and 80%, respectively, compared to the common transparent film. The internode lengths of plants grown in the two houses were not significantly different, but the plants grown under the UV-absorbing film had longer vines and more leaves than plants under the common transparent film. However, fruit characters such as weight, length, width, rind thick and brix, were not different between the two houses. Occurrence of aphids was reduced in the UV-absorbing film, but those of mites or diseases (powdery mildew and sooty mold) were not different between the houses. These results suggest that disease incidence of gummy stem blight of watermelon in the greenhouse can be controlled by the use of UV-absorbing film.

Synthesis of PbMoO4 Using a Facile Surfactant-assisted Hydrothermal Method and Their Photocatalytic Activity (계면활성제를 이용한 수열합성법에 의한 PbMoO4의 합성 및 그들의 광촉매 활성)

  • Lead molybdate ($PbMoO_4$) was successfully synthesized using a facile surfactant-assisted hydrothermal process and characterized by XRD, Raman, TEM, PL, BET and DRS. We also investigated the photocatalytic activity of these materials for the decomposition of Rhodamine B under UV-light irradiation. From XRD and Raman results, well-crystallized $PbMoO_4$ crystals were successfully synthesized with the particle size of 52-69 nm. $PbMoO_4$ catalysts prepared in the presence of cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) enhanced the photocatalytic activity compared to that of using P-25 and pure $PbMoO_4$ catalysts. The maximum photocatalytic activity of $PbMoO_4$ catalyst were observed when preparing it in pH 9 solution. The The PL peak at about 540 nm were observed for all catalysts and the excitonic PL signal increased proportionally with respect to the photocatalytic activity of Rhodamine B.

  • Charge transfer complexes of some electron donors with one electron acceptor have been studied to investigate the maximum absorption wavelength and absorbance by UV-Vis spectrometer in three kinds of solvents, such as ethylene chloride, methylene chloride, and chloroform, at the temperature ranges of 16∼25$^{\circ}$C. 1,2,3,4-Tetrahydrocarbazole (THC), 2-methyl, 3-methyl, and 3-ethyl THC were selected as electron donors while chloranil was used as an electron acceptor in this study. It is found that these complexes forms 1 : 1 complexes, and their maximum absorbance and formation constants decreases with respect to the function of the polarity of solvent and temperature. The polarity of solvents and the temperature have been influenced on the formation constants, which were described using the thermodynamic properties. Moreover, the electronic and steric effects of electron donors have also been effects.

고온고압처리에 따른 천연갈색다이아몬드의 광학특성분석

  • 본 연구에서 우리는 HPHT 처리 전 FT-IR spectrometer를 이용한 사전분석을 통해 type Ia brown 다이아몬드를 IaA, IaB, IaAB (A>B), IaAB (A=B), IaAB (A$1700-1800^{\circ}C$, 5 GPa에서 다이아몬드가 흑연화 되지 않는 범위 하에 HPHT처리를 시행하였다. 자외선-가시광선 분광분석기(UV-Vis Spectrometer, Shimadzu UV 3101PC)를 사용하여 350~800 nm에서의 가시광선 범위를 0.1nm의 분해능으로 투과(Transmittance) 모드로 측정하였고, 퓨리에 변환 적외선 분광분석기(FT-IR spectrometer, Jasco-4100)을 사용하여 $400{\sim}6000cm^{-1}$의 범위에서 $4cm^{-1}$ 의 분해능으로 흡수(Absorption) 모드로 측정한 후 HPHT 처리 전후를 비교 분석하였다. 또한 광루미네선스(Photoluminescence) 분석은 325 nm He-Cd laser를 광원으로 한(PL, Spectra-pro 2150i, Spectra-pro 2300i micro-spectrometer) 및 532 nm green laser를 광원으로 한(PL, SAS 2000)를 사용하여 각각 350~600 nm, 550~1100 nm의 범위에서 0.1nm step으로 측정하여 HPHT 처리전과 후를 비교 분석하였다. HPHT처리 후 모든 시료는 N3 center (415.4 nm), H4 center (496.4nm) 및 platelet와 연관된 ($1363\;cm^{-1}$)의 peak가 감소하였고, H3 center (503.2 nm)와 G-band가 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 또한 HPHT 처리 시 질소의 B집합보다 A집합이 더 감소하는 경향을 나타내었으며, A 또는 B집합의 파괴에서 발생된 질소 원자에 의해 질소의 interstitial center (594 nm)가 증가함을 알 수 있었다. HPHT 처리 후 모든 시료는 (N-V)- center가 생성됨을 확인 할 수 있었다. 결론적으로 본 연구를 통해 HPHT 처리를 통해 다이아몬드 내에 존재하는 질소결합관련 상태의 변화를 확인할 수 있었다.

  • The spectroscopic characteristics of synthetic and natural emeralds were investigated by UV-Vis and FTIR spectroscopy before and after heat treatment. The Mo and Co for synthetic flux and C1 for synthetic hydrothermal emeralds have been detected by X-ray fluorescence analysis. In the region of UV-Visible, the absorption of emerald from Colombia was generally increased after the heat treatment. The peak which related to C1 component in the $3000-2600cm^{-1}$ was shown in the hydrothermal synthetic emeralds by FTIR spectroscopy. The $2358cm^{-1}$ peak which originates from $CO_2$ was decreased after the heat treatment in the natural emerald. This was corresponded with the changes of gas element after heat treatment.

  • Paint, fiber and dye which play a critcal role in proving the relationship between a suspect and a victim or a crime scene, are one of the most frequently encountered trace evidences at a forensic laboratory, however, in usual, because of infinitesimally small sizes of forensic samples, investigation of the spectroscopic characteristics of such samples is becomming more and more prevalent in forensic science as a non-destructive method. In this study, transmittance/reflectance profiles at ultraviolet-visible region (240-780nm), were investigated by UV/visible microspectro- photometer and used to analyze the spectral characteristics of different types of 14 microfibers, 12 inks of four colors and 44 automotive paints of two colors. Good results for discrimination were given from spectra of these samples due to the characteristic bands in uv/vis region, respectively.

  • 최근에 산화물 반도체를 평판 디스플레이와 태양 전지의 투명 전극으로 응용하기 위해 많은 연구가 진행중에 있다. 특히, $In_2O_3$ 박막은 투명 전도 산화막으로써 3.7 eV의 직접 전이 밴드갭 에너지를 갖고 가시광 영역에서 높은 투과도를 갖는 반도체이어서 다양한 영역에서 응용 가능하다. 본 연구는 낮은 비저항과 높은 투과율을 갖는 최적의 투명 전도막을 성장시키기 위하여 라디오파 반응성 마그네트론 스퍼터링 방법을 사용하여 질소 도핑된 $In_2O_3$ 박막을 유리 기판 상부에 증착하였고, 후열처리로 온도 400, 450, 500, 550$^{\circ}C$에서 급속 열처리를 수행하여, 증착된 박막의 구조, 표면, 광학, 전기적 특성을 조사하였다. 증착된 박막은 XRD를 사용하여 구조적 특성을 조사한 결과, $2{\theta}=30.2^{\circ}$와 43.95$^{\circ}$에서 상대적으로 강한 피크가 관측되었다(Fig. 1). 전자는 (222)면에서 회절된 피크이며, 후자는 (100)면에서 발생한 회절 피크이다. 열처리 온도가 0$^{\circ}C$에서 500$^{\circ}C$로 증가함에 따라 (222) 면의 회절 신호의 세기는 상대적으로 증가하였고, 550$^{\circ}C$에서 급격하게 감소하였다. 박막의 광학적 특성은 자외선-가시광선 분광기를 사용하여 광학 흡수율과 투과율을 측정하였다(Fig. 2). 열처리를 하지 않은 박막의 경우에, 파장 200~1,100 nm 범위에서 측정된 평균투과율은 76%이었다. 광학 흡수 계수와 광자 에너지의 관계를 나타내는 포물선 관계식을 기초로 하여 광학 밴드갭 에너지를 계산하였다. 박막의 전기적 특성의 경우에, Hall 효과를 측정하여 전하 운반자 농도, 홀 이동도, 전기 비저항을 조사한 결과, 전기적 특성은 열처리 온도에 상당한 의존성을 나타냄을 알 수 있었고, 열처리 온도 500$^{\circ}C$에서 박막의 비저항값은 $4.0{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}cm$이었다.

  • Photocatalytic degradation of Congo red was performed using various semiconductors as ZnO, CdS, rutile-$TiO_2$ or mixed rutile-$TiO_2$/ZnO. The change of degradation of the dye was investigated by UV-visible spectrophotometric method. The photocatalytic action of CdS was greater than ZnO and rutile-$TiO_2$ in account of low band gap energy of CdS. The rate of photocatalytic degradation reaction increased drastically in according to increasing ratio of ZnO on mixed rutile-$TiO_2$/ZnO. These photocatalytic effect of rutile-$TiO_2$ was suppressed by more stable rutile-$TiO_2$, doping the hydrolysis product with $Zn^{2+}$ prior to calcination onto the rutile-$TiO_2$ surface.

Overview of New UV-filters (새로운 UV 필터에 대한 고찰)

  • Sunscreens have been in use for about 70years and 'tanning without burning' was propagated as their major advantage. The objective changed from 'getting a tanned skin' to 'getting skin protection' since UV have been proposed to a major risk of skin cancer and the risk of developing skin cancer related also to non-burning UVA. The new expectation from consumers has triggered the development of new UV absorbers and led to the approval of 7 new, organic UV absorbers in Europe over the last few years. The significant progress due to these new UV absorbers will be discussed in this report. These UV absorbers provide an efficient absorption of UV radiation (UVB and/or UVA) and easily incorporate in any kind of formulation. These are also safe, i.e. devoid of adverse effects. These new filters give the formulators new possibilities to cover the whole UV range iron 290 to 400 nm, and also to use less filter due to the boosting effect of the new UVA and broadband fitters.

The Thermodynamics of the Formation of Polymethylbenzene-Halogens Charge Transfer Complexes (Ⅰ) (폴리메틸벤젠과 할로겐사이의 전하이동착물생성에 관한 열역학적 연구 (제1보))

  • Ultraviolet spectrophotometric investigations were carried out on the systems of o-, m-and p-xylene with iodine in carbon tetrachloride. The results reveal the formation of one to one molecular complexes of the type, $C_6H_4(CH_3)_2{\cdot}I_2. $The equilibrium constants of complexes were obtained in consideration of that absorption maxima has the blue shift with the increasing temperatures according to the formation of the charge transfer complexes. The thermodynamic parameters, $ {\Delta}$H, $ {\Delta}$G and $ {\Delta}$S for the formation of the charge transfer complexes were calculated from these values. These results combined with previous study of this series indicated that the relative stabilities of the polymethylbenzene complexes with iodine increase in the order, Benzene < Toluene < o-Xylene < p-Xylene These results are supposed to be the influence resulted from increase of electron density by the positive inductive effect and the steric hindrance effect.
