  • The present study examined the direct effects of parental support and monitoring on multicultural adolescents' school adjustment and the mediating role of ego-resilience in the relationships, under the condition of controlling foreign mothers' Korean language abilities. We used data from 1,325 1st grade middle school students from multicultural families, who participated in the Multicultural Adolescent Panel Survey(MAPS) administered by the National Youth Policy Institute(NYPI). Structural equation modeling analysis revealed the following: parental support and monitoring directly and positively related with multicultural adolescents' school adjustment, and the direct effect of parental support on the school adjustment of multicultural adolescents was greater than that of parental monitoring. In addition, the adolescents' ego-resilience partially mediated the relationships between parental support and monitoring, and their school adjustment. Finally, we recommended the roles of parent education and home economics education in supporting school adjustment and elevating ego-resilience in multicultural adolescents.

The subjects were 250 students enrolled in G University and questionnaire survey was administerd. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS v. 21.0 statistics package program and the results are as follows: For the general characteristics of subjects, female students were more compared to male ones, mos of them were in 4th grade and specialized in public health and had no religion. For the relationship between self-management / self-resiliency and career maturity of university students, the self-management had significant positive effects on determination, confidence, and preparedness, which are sub-factors of career maturity (p<.001). In addition, it was shown that the controllability, positiveness, and sociability, which are sub-factors of self-resiliency had significant positive effects on determination, confidence, and preparedness, which are sub-factors of career maturity (p<.05, p<.01, p<.001). Considering that the self-management and self-resiliency are important factors in career maturity of university students, it is demanded for the university teachers to examine the measures to increase self-management and self-resiliency of students.

  • The purpose of the present study was to examine the structural causal relationships among problem drinking of elderly, depression, self-esteem and life satisfaction through structural Equation Modeling and also to investigate how these effects were influenced by the differences in the structural relationships between poor and non-poor elderly. The results showed the positive relationship between problem drinking and depression not also poor elderly group but non-poor elderlys'. According to Multi-group analysis, Latent means analysis where non-poor elderly are used as the reference group, poor elderly group showed higher latent mean values on the problemdrinking and depression, and lower latent mean values on the self-esteem and life satisfaction. Depression mediated the relationships between problem drinking of elderly and life satisfaction the only in a poor elderly group. The implications and limitations of this study were discussed, and the suggestions for further studies were recommended.

  • This study investigates convergent influence on Self Factors(SF), Stress Factors(STF), Resilience & Control Factors(RCF), Test Anxiety(TA), Learning Flow(LF) and academic burnout among Health College Students in TOEIC class(HCST). The survey was administered to 291 HCST from 1 college located in J area during the period from April 3, 2017 to April 14, 2017. The structured self-administered questionaries were used. With the analysis of covariance structure, we could confirm relationship among the six factors such as SF, STF, RCF, TA, LF and academic burnout. The results of the study indicate that the efforts, to manage these factors, are required to decrease the academic burnout of HCST. Squared multiple correlations, which explain the academic burnout related with the stress from economic pressure and job seeking, test anxiety, learning flow and self factors, were 98.8%. The results are expected to be useful for the development of TOEIC learning curriculum and course to decrease the academic burnout of HCST. In the following study, the analysis about additional factors of influence on academic burnout will be needed.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of belief in body control on appearance satisfaction using structural equation modeling. In the structural equation model, self-esteem was included as a common predictor variable of belief in body control and appearance satisfaction, and the ideal body type and perceived body type were included as mediator variables. The data was collected from 96 female college students in the State of Washington, United States, Using AMOS 4, confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to fit the measurement models, and then the fit of the structural model was examined. The results of this study are as follows: The indirect effect of belief in body control on appearance satisfaction through its negative effect on ideal body type was significant. Yet, the direct path of belief in body control to appearance satisfaction and the indirect path through their common relationships with self-esteem were found not significant. These results indicate that higher body control belief may lead to lower appearance satisfaction due to the decreased size of ideal body type.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of children's values, parent-child interaction, family cohesion and flexibility on paternal and maternal warmth and control parenting. Method: The sample used in this study included 806 parents of boys and 748 of girls who were first married couples and living together in the 6th wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children(PSKC). Hierarchical regression analyses were used to identify the effect of predictable variances on paternal and maternal parenting. Results: Variables found to have a statistically significant effect on parenting differed in terms of warmth and control parenting. Fathers who engaged in playing with their children were found to have a strong effect on paternal warmth parenting, whereas participation in children's activities has the strongest effect on maternal warmth parenting. Conclusions: This study suggested that there were differences in paternal and maternal warmth and control parenting according to the gender of the child. Further implications were discussed for exploring maternal and paternal parenting of young children.
