Estimation of Traffic Safety Improvement by Applying a Traffic Control Device (교통통제장치 적용에 따른 교통안전도 향상에 관한 연구)

  • Speeding is one of the major causes of traffic accidnets in urban areas. Driver feedback sign(DFS) is a traffic control device that can be used for many traffic environments including work zones, school zones, and roadways. In this paper, the effectiveness of DFS was evaluated through a field study using speed data collected from before and after study periods. In addition traffic safety improvement was also quantitatively estimated using the variance of speed data collected. Staistical test results showed that the speed difference was statistically significant, and the distribution of speed data was also shifted greatly. Therefore, it was concluded that installing the DFS in roadways might lead to unifomity of speed of traffic flow, thus, potential safety improvement might be expected.

Regional Traffic Information Acquisition by Non-intrusive Automatic Vehicle Identification (비매설식 자동차량인식장치를 이용한 구간교통정보 산출 방법 연구)

  • This paper describes about non-burial AVI (Automatic Vehicle Identification) system using general vehicle as probe car for obtaining more accurate traffic information while conserving road pavement surface. Existing spot traffic detectors have their own limits of not obtaining right information owing to its mathematical method. Burial AVI systems have some defects, causing traffic jam, needing much maintenance cost because of frequent cutting of loop and piezo-electric sensors. Especially, they have hard time to make right detection, when it comes to jamming time. Therefore, in this paper, we propose non-burial AVI system with laser trigger unit. Proposed non-burial AVI system is developed to obtain regional traffic information from normal Passing vehicle by automatic license number recognition technology. We have adapted it to national highway section between Suwon city and Pyong$\~$Taek city(9.5km) and get affirmative results. Vehicle detection rate of laser trigger unit is more than 95$\%$, vehicle recognition rate is 87.8$\%$ and vehicle matching rate is about 14.3$\%$. So we regard these as satisfying results to use the system for traffic information service. We evaluate proposed AVI system by regulation of some institutions which are using similar AVI system and the proposed system satisfies all conditions. For future study, we have plan of detailed research about proper lane number from all of the target lanes, optimal section length, information service period, and data fusion method for existing spot detector.

  • For the automation of a evaporation process, computer based evaporation system was built and applied to acquisition of the process variables with an centrifugal thin film evaporator(Centri-Therm, CT-1B). Controls of the process conditions were performed by computer system for pressure, feeding rate, steam, evaporation temperature and flow rate of cooling water. The data acquisitions were also performed by computer system for the changes in the concentration and temperature readings for steam, evaporation and cooling water at the both inlet and outlet. The control and the acquisition variables were collected through the interface device and analyzed by programs using the PASCAL language. To control the feeding rate during the concentration process, inverter was used. The cooling water for the vapor condensation was controlled by the valve controller and should be supplied with the flow rate of 125 kg/h. The maximum vapor condensation rate was 41.7kg/h at the feeding rate of 125 kg/h.

  • Air Data Recording System (ADRS) is the flight data recorder for the SmartUAV development. ADRS of the low cost designed for the SmartUAV has been developed and tested through the ground test. ADRS is the reconstructing data acquisition system and can be programmed automation controller. This paper focuses on the design aspects of the hardware and software. The hardware aspects of the ADRS include details about the hardware configurations for the interfaces with the Digital Flight Control Computer(DFCC) and sensors, components modifications. The software section describes the ADRS Operating System(OS) and data flow for archived files. Finally, ADRS-based results of the SmartUAV that include the Iron-bird test, system interface test and ground test are presented.

  • Most online monitoring systems of running currently based on the wired network and local area wireless network generate an increase of administrative costs such as synchronization of data protocol conversion, flexible operation of measurement devices and maintenance. To solve this problem, this paper proposes the SMS data transmission protocol which allows multiple data collecting device to manage effectively including implementation method of cdma-based environmental information monitoring system. Also this paper shows operational safety of the proposed protocol and analyzes efficiency of data transfer and operating using SMS.

  • Real-time Aerial Monitoring System (RAMS) is to perform the rapid mapping in an emergency situation so that the geoinformation such as orthophoto and/or Digital Elevation Model is constructed in near real time. In this system, the GPS/INS plays an very important role in providing the position as well as the attitude information. Therefore, in this study, the performance of an IMU sensor which is supposed to be installed on board the RAMS is evaluated. And the integration algorithm of GPS/INS are tested with simulated dataset to find out which is more appropriate in real time mapping. According to the static and kinematic results, the sensor shows the position error of 3$\sim$4m and 2$\sim$3m, respectively. Also, it was verified that the sensor performs better on the attitude when the magnetic field sensor are used in the Aerospace mode. In the comparison of EKF and UKF, the overall performances shows not much differences in straight as well as in curved trajectory. However, the calculation time in EKF was appeared about 25 times faster than that of UKF, thus EKF seems to be the better selection in RAMS.

A Study of Relative Feeder-Cable Length and Vehicle Detection Length of Loop Detector (루프검지기의 휘더선길이와 차량검지길이의 관계 연구)

  • Loop detection systems have been used in real-time signal control system to collect traffic information for estimating queue lengths. The queue length algorithm uses speed as a key variable estimated from occupancy time and average vehicle length. The measurement of average vehicle length is affected from the lengths of feeder cable, but their effects have not yet been evaluated. In this study, the variability of average vehicle length due to the lengths of feeder cable is assessed through a field study, and a practical guidelines is proposed. By applying this result, the operational performance of real-time signal control system could be improved.

  • The eye measurement to observe the sea surface condition and estimate the wave height has been used in the open sea or the ship. The experts in the eye estimation can measure the wave height very accurately. The Beaufort wind scale is most widely used as a standard index of the eye measurement. However, more definite reference data such as the representative images by each wave heights must be necessary because the appearances and explanations in the Beaufort wind scale are not enough to understand the sea surface condition far the researcher and the public. The modern field data acquisition technique has been developed to measure wave heights, ocean weather data and even images of the sea surface in real-time. In this study, the wireless field image transmitting system for wave heights and images is installed in the real-time ocean measurement system of Chodo light tower near Sokcho city in South Korea. The wave heights and surface images acquired from the real time system in the field are compared with explanations of the Beaufort wind scale. The wave heights and images measured with the precision ultrasonic wave sensor and the scientific sea surface image transmitting system should be helpful to obtain more precise and definite information than the data from the Beaufort wind scale.

  • 슈퍼나 소매점등에서 판매되는 상품의 포장을 자세히 살펴보면 흑색과 백색의 줄무늬가 인쇄되어 있는 것을 볼수가 있다. 이것을 bar code라고 하는 데 국명, 메이커명, 상품명등을 수치화하여 하나의 코드로 만들고 그것을 독해하여 가격을 산출하고 정산업무를 신속하고 정확하게 처리하면서 자료를 모아 해석하여 재고 관리, 발주, 매입 업무를 합리화하고 이를 정보 네트워크에 의하여 수요에 대응한 판매를 전개하는 등 물자의 유통관리에 폭넓게 이용되고 있다. 즉 bar code system은 흑색 또는 백색의 굵은 bar와 가는 bar의 구성에 의하여 하나의 성질 (숫자, 기호, 알파벳 문자)을 나타내고 그 연속을 광학식 입력수단을 통하여 하나의 코드에 정리한 자동화된 데이터수집(Automated Data Collection)방법으로 활용되고 있다. 본고에서는 이러한 bar code의 동작, 구성, 인식장치의 원리와 활용사례를 기술하였다.

  • 최근 들어 전력량계는 기계식에서 반도체 소자를 사용하는 전자식으로 점진적으로 교체되고, 외부 통신 장치와의 데이터 통신 방식에 있어 국제 표준 규격인 IEC 62056을 기반으로 표준화하고 있다. 그리하여 표준화된 데이터 통신 방식으로 수집된 전력 정보를 취합하고 통합하는 운영 시스템 구축이 대두하게 되었고 사용자 중심의 HMI(Human Machine Interface) 관점에서 다양한 고객의 요구와 분석 자료 그리고 방대한 데이터 관리를 제공하기 위한 편리한 운영자 환경을 제공해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 전력량계에서 측정된 전력 정보를 저장하고 운영할 수 있는 시스템 개발에 관하여 연구하였다.
