Plasma arc cutting is one of the most widely used processes in metal cutting fields and is a process that produces parted metal plates by cutting them with an arc plasma established between the electrode tip and the plate(workpiece). When the tip-to-workpiece distance varies during cutting, the cut quality, for example the kerf width, is deteriorated by the change of plasma arc. The variations of tip-to-workpiece distance are due to the different factors such as inaccuracies in setting the torch or workpiece, thermal distortions during cutting, and uneven surface of workpiece. The control to keep the tip-to-workpiece distance constant is thus indispensable to improve the flexibility of automatic plasma arc cutting system applications. In this study, an arc sensor which utilizes the electrical signal obtained from the plasma arc itself was developed. The arc sensor has an advantage that no particular sensing device is necessary and real-time sensing of the tip-to-workpiece distance is possible directly under the plasma arc. The relationship between plasma arc voltage and tip-to-workpiece distance was determined through the repeated experimental results. The model was used for developing an automatic tip-to-workpiece distance control system of plasma arc cutting. It could be shown that the proposed system has a successful capability of tip-to-workpiece distance control.

A novel rapid prototyping (RP) process, an automated transfer type variable lamination manufacturing process (Automated VLM-ST) has been developed. In Automated VLM-ST, a vacuum chuck and linear moving system transfer the plate type material with two pilot holes to the rotation stage. A four-axis synchronized hotwire cutter cuts the material twice to generate Automated Unit Shape Layer (AUSL) with the desired width, side slopes, length, and two reference shapes in accordance with CAD data. Each AUSL is stacked on the stacking plate with two pilot pins using the pilot holes in AUSL and the pilot pins. Subsequently, adhesive is supplied to the top surface of the stacked AUSL by a bonding roller and pressure is simultaneously applied to the bottom surface of the stacked AUSL. Finally, three-dimensional shapes are rapidly fabricated. This paper describes the procedure for generating the cutting path data (AUSL data) f3r automated VLM-ST. The method for the generation of the Automated Unit Shape Layer (AUSL) in Automated VLM-ST was practically applied and fabricated for a various shapes.
The clothing by bias-cut fabric are outstanding in their shilluettes mainly due to their high level of drapability. The clothing, however, need a specific cutting process for being even trimming line skirts. The 3-D trimming system developed in the study has been successful in making high-quality skirts with extremely even trimming line. The system is expected to make quality apparel in shorter manufacturing time.

The double-peak normal distribution function (DPDF) suggested by Cho et al.(2004) has the problems that the extremely high and low tidal elevations are frequently generated in the Monte-Carlo simulation processes because the upper and lower limits of the DPDF are unbounded in spite of the excellent goodness-offit results. In this study, the modified DPDF is suggested by introducing the upper and lower value parameters and re-scale parameters in order to remove these problems. These new parameters of the DPDF are optimally estimated by the non-linear optimization problem solver using the Levenberg-Marquardt scheme. This modified DPDF can remove completely the unrealistically generated tidal levations and give a slightly better fit than the existing DRDF. Based on the DPDF's characteristic power, the over- and under estimation problems of the design factors are also automatically intercepted, too.
In this study, performance of a developed automatic punching machine considering the planting density of soybeans was evaluated in the case of the operation speed of 0.18-0.28 m/s. The performance demonstrated a rate of 320-500 ㎡/h, 260-400 ㎡/h, and 210-330 ㎡/h for the 0.20 m, 0.25 m, and 0.30 m soybean planting density, respectively. One hundred percent punching capacity was confirmed in 30 mm distance between the ground and the blade. Additionally, in the 50 mm distance condition, the performance of round, square, and hexagonal blades were observed in the range of 16.7-25.2%, 33.0-42.3%, and 54.5-100.0%, respectively. Above all, the hexagonal blade with a 60° edge angle had the most superior cutting quality demonstrating a smooth and soft cutting plane of the plastic.

Since 1990s, the major recycling methods for mechanical recycling of FRP(Fiber Reinforced Plastics)boats has involved shredding and grinding of the scrap FRP in a new recycled product. But still it leads to secondary problem such as air pollution, unacceptable shredding noise level and few limited applications. This study is to propose a newly advanced method which is more efficient and environment friendly waste FRP regenerating system. As extracting FRP layer and making the recycled fiber for recycled-fiber reinforced concrete(RFRC) from waste FRP, the recycling process has some merits in a sense of the recycling energy and the environmental effects. In this study, for those tasks, spectro-chemical differentiation method and coloring water-soluble dye treatment makes the roving layer more distinguishable photophysically. Also that has remarkably reduced safety hazards and energy. Using the mechanical properties of polymers and composite, FRP with the orthotropic and laminated plastic structure has been easily separated in the new extracting system. Also the new method has introduced five kind of separating manuals for the some different compositions of FRP boats. The roving fiber of laminated glass-fiber layer is as good as the polyvinyl fiber which is cost-high commercial fiber to increasing strength of concrete products. The early study has shown the effectiveness of laminated glass-fiber layer which also is chemical-resistant due to the resin coating. These results imply that more efficient and environment friendly recycled glass fiber can be better applied to the fiber reinforced concrete(FRC) substitute and this study also has shown wide concrete applications with RFRC from the waste FRP boat.

The automatic generation of circuit diagrams has been practically used in the HDL based design for decades. Nevertheless, the diagrams became too complicated for the designers to identify the signal flows in the RTL and system level designs. In this paper, we propose four techniques to enhance the roadability of the complicated diagrams. They include i) the transformation of repetitive instances and terminals into vector forms, ii) an improved loop breaking algorithm, iii) a flat tap which simplifies the two level bus ripping structure that is required for the connection of a bundle net to multiple buses, and iv) the identification of block strings, and alignment of the corresponding blocks. Towards validating the proposed techniques, the diagrams of an industrial strength design m generated. The complexity of the diagrams has been reduced by up to $90\%$ in terms of the number of wires, the aggregate wire length, and the area.
Nd:YAG single crystal widely used as solid state laser was grown by Czochralski method. <111> single crystal with 0.9at% of $Nd^{3+}$ was grown from the Czochralski furnace with a automatic diameter control system. The vertical temperature gradient in the liquid was the major factor that influence the crystal quality, and the crystal diameter was controlled by the home made computer program. The crystal boule with $\phi$50mm$\times$ι100mm effective size was cut, polished, and antireflection coated. The optical evaluation such as absorption spectrum, fluorescence spectrum coincide with typical features of Nd:YAG single crystal. The laser rod was assembled into the CW laser generator with a Kr lamp. The maximum CW laser output was 70 W and the threshold power and efficiency was 1.3kW and 1.64% respectively.
In anatomical aspects, magnetic resonance image offers more accurate information than other medical images such as X ray ultrasonic and CT images. This paper introduces a method that recognizes disk diseases from spine MR images. In this method, image enhancement, image segmentation and feature extraction for sagittal plane and axial plane images are performed to separate the disk region. And then template matching method is used to extract disease region for axial plane imges. Finally, disease feature vectors are integrated and disease discrimination processes are performed. Experimental results show that the proposed method discriminates between normal and diseased disk with a considerable recognition ratio.

This paper suggests a new object-oriented methodology, ESBD(Evolutionary Simulation Based Design), for the development of an automated manufacturing system in shipbuilding. The target system, AHMS(Automated Hull-piece Manufacturing System), is a virtualized and distributed system controlling the manufacturing processes of storing, surface-pretreatment, cutting, 1st and 2nd curvature generation of material plates. The control and product-flow simulation is applied for the real-time product monitoring and product data management(PDM). The prototype system of AHMS also outlines the layout of the new automated factory.
