The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between fathers and children with Internet addiction. To achieve the goal, researchers chose face to face interview methods with 12 children who had been considered'at risk'with Internet addiction. More specifically, examiners conducted individual in-depth interviews with 12 children associated with Internet addiction for 30~40 minutes during four sessions through structured questions and non-structured questions. After collecting data, examiners conducted a categorical analysis based on collected data. Finally, the research results, discovered in this research, were as follows: First, the Internet set up the inter-generational barrier in the relationship between father and child, second, children took an interest in the Internet instead of their busy father, Third, the Internet played the role of a place to escape from the awkwardness with their father, fifth, fathers were not able to control the Internet use of their children. Based on the research results, this study suggests a desirable behavior pattern for fathers which can be conducive to children with Internet addiction and their fathers along with a follow-up study.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of psychobiographical intensive interview(PII) on the parent's insight, parent-child relationship characteristics and counseling session. For this, the PII was conducted to 10 mothers with school age children. PII was semi-structured form that included the intensive interview for exploring psychobiographical information and interpretation counseling of it. The results showed that the level of insight into parent's child problem and relation to parent's own problem was significantly increased. On the other hand, parent-child relationship characteristics (parental efficacy, parenting attitude, and parenting stress) were found to be significant only in some of the parenting stresses. We investigated the possibility as a counseling tool for PII through counseling session impact assessments. As a result of that, we confirmed that there were positive results in task impacts, relationship impacts, and helpful impacts.
The purpose of this study was to examine the ambivalence of adult children to their elderly parents. 410 adult children who married and having alive mother or father were included. First, direct measurement for asking ambivalence was developed and the relationship between direct and indirect measurements of ambivalence was tested. Next, the influences of parental, children, and relational characteristics on ambivalence were examined. Nine items were selected as direct measurement of ambivalence through the exploratory factor analysis and item response theory. The relationship between direct measure and indirect measure was from .543(p<.000) to r=.625(p<.000) based on gender and generation. The effects of indirect ambivalence on conflict was bigger than direct one for both sons and daughters and the influences of direct measurement on intimacy and relational satisfaction were bigger than indirect one. In case of sons, caregiving obligation was the biggest predictor on ambivalence for mothers and value differences was on ambivalence for fathers. For daughters, age of self was the biggest predictor on ambivalence for mothers and age of fathers was the one for fathers. These results were discussed on the meanings of ambivalence for elderly mothers and fathers in Korea comparing with Chinese and Western cultures.

The purpose of this study was to provide better understanding of longitudinal effects of early maternal employment on mother-child relationship using 1364 families participating the NICHD Study of Early Child Care in the U.S. Based on the information on maternal employment from 6 months after the child's birth, three employment groups were created: mothers who had always worked more than 30 hours per week, mother who had worked part-time or had been inconsistently employed, and mothers who had never worked. At 36 months, mothers who had extensively employed for the first 36 months showed significantly lower level of supportive presence compared to mothers who had never worked. Mothers who had partly employed for the first year of child's life displayed higher level of supportive presence at 36 months compared to mothers in the other two 12 month employment groups. No other significant employment group differences were found in the mothers' respect for child's autonomy and hostility at 36 months. At first grade, mothers in three employment groups were not different in their relationship with their child. The findings suggested that maternal employment, specifically early extensive maternal employment, does not consistently predict lower quality of mother-child interaction in two or three years later.

This paper investigates effects of family size on private tutoring expenditures, using a data set drawn from the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women & Families (KLoWF). To deal with endogeneity of family size, the paper employs an instrumental variable (IV) method in which the sex of the first-born of the family is used as an IV. The results suggest that quantity-quality trade-offs of children within a family function in a way that varies by the sex of the child. While the effect of an increase in family size on private turoring expenditures of a second-born daughter is negative, the effect for a second-born son is indeterminate. The result for daughters implies that high costs of raising a child are likely to explain low birth rates of Korea.

This study aimed to develop a model to explain the factors influencing father's parenting stress, and to verify the appropriateness of the model. The participants included 1609 fathers with a 5-year old. The study used 2012 Panel Study of Korean Children (PSKC) by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE), and analyzed with SPSS and AMOS programs. The analysis showed that first, father's income and parental efficacy were negatively related with parenting stress and father's depression and marital conflict were positively related with parenting stress. Second, father's parenting stress was directly and indirectly impacted by parental efficacy and their child's temperament. These results suggest that father education are needed for promoting positive paternal mental health and parental efficacy, to reduce parenting stress of fathers.
