  • The geometric patterns of a stream network in a drainage basin can be viewed as a "fractal" with fractal dimensions. Fractals provide a mathematical framework for treatment of irregular, ostensively complex shapes that show similar patterns or geometric characteristics over a range of scale. GIUH (Geomorphological Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph) is based on the hydrologic response of surface runoff in a catchment basin. This model incorporates geomorphologic parameters of a basin using Horton's order ratios. For an ordered drainage system, the fractal dimensions can be derived from Horton's laws of stream numbers, stream lengths and stream areas. In this paper, a fractal approach, which is leading to representation of a 2-parameter Gamma distribution type GIUH, has been carried out to incorporate the self similarity of the channel networks based on the high correlations between the Horton's order ratios. The shape and scale parameter of the GIUH-Nash model of IUH in terms of Horton's order ratios of a catchment proposed by Rosso(l984J are simplified by applying the fractal dimension of main stream length and channel network of a river basin. basin.

  • In this study, with the assumption that the geographical characteristics of the river basin have selfsimilarity, fractal dimensions are used to quantify the complexity of the terrain. For this, Area exponent and hurst exponent was applied to estimate the fractal dimension by using spatial analysis. The result shows that the value of area exponent and hurst exponent calculated by the fractal dimension are 2.008~2.074 and 2.132~2.268 respectively. Also the $R^2$ of area exponent and hurst exponent are 94.9% and 87.1% respectively too. It shows that the $R^2$ is relatively high. After analyzing the spatial self-similarity parameter, it is shown that traditional urban area's moderate slope geographical characteristic closed to 2D fractal in Ara water way. In addition, the relation between fractal dimension and geographical elements are identified. With these results, fractal dimension is the representative value of basin characteristics.

  • This study is a life history on self-realization of woman in the abstinence of alcohol process. The purpose of the study is to explore the circumstance of female alcoholism, to expand the prospect of discussion for treatment and recovery, and to suggest social welfare intervention measures. The study involved a female alcoholic who had been recovering for more than seven years, and the text for life history analysis was divided into 'dimension of life', 'turning point' and 'adaptation' based on the life history analysis framework proposed by Mandelbaum. As a result of the data analysis, 'dimension of life' was analyzed into three areas, such as the personal level of life, the family level of life, and the social dimension. 'Turning point' is to escape from a father who drinks alcohol and uses violence, to give up his job to avoid boss's abuse, and to proceed one's own way of healing. 'Adaptation' was derived into good at studying, relieving anger by drinking alcohol, and referring to AA and self-realization. Based on these findings, this study presented the social welfare practice and policy discussion focused on self-realization.

  • Paradoxically, leadership has not only positive effects but also negative effects. The purpose of this study is to examine supervisors' dysfunctional leadership behaviors, antecedents and results in order to draw HRD implications for protecting organizations and employees from dysfunctional leaders and provide implications for leadership development. A qualitative research method based on semi-organized interviews with 28 employees from S-group was used. The results of this study show that the dysfunctional leadership behaviors were associated with ten behavioral categories: belittling and insulting the subordinates, authoritative and arbitrary behaviors, self-aggrandizement, biased preference for certain personnel, arrogance, micro-managing, inability to change and adapt, discordance between words and actions, over-dependance on supervisor, lack of ethics and values. Dysfunctional leadership behaviors were casually attributed to 'personal traits & experience', 'task characteristics', and 'internal & external environments of the organization'. Finally, the results of supervisor's dysfunctional leadership behaviors on employees and the organizational effects were 'increased turnover rate', 'declining work efficiency', 'collapsing morale', 'retraining innovative thinking', 'passive working culture', 'discouraging organizational vitality', 'discouraging organizational synergy', 'losing loyalty' and 'declining trust on supervisor'.

  • This study examines the conception of the self using indigenous, cultural and psychological analysis. The self is viewed from four aspects: (1) conception of the self as an entity (the self in general, the self as an unique entity and the self when alone), (2) conception of self in the context of family (the self when with mother, father, children and spouse), (3) the self with the context of close and working relationships (the self when with friends, teachers, work superior and work subordinate), and (4) the self in context of the larger society (the self when with strangers and foreigners). A total of 1,465 respondents (623 elementary, middle, high and university students and their parents = 842) completed an open-ended questionnaire developed by the present authors. The results reveal two patterns of results. First, the conception of self in Korea is influence by one's role. Second, the conception of self in influenced by relationship and context and there is an emphasis on the flexibility and adjustment of the self to relationship and context. Implications of the conception of the self in context of relationships, roles, and contexts are discussed, along with the importance of indigenous, cultural and psychological analysis.

  • The fractal geometry is a non-Euclidean geometry which discribes the naturally irregular or fragmented shaps, so that it can be applied to fracture behavior of materials to investigate the fracture process. Fractal curves have a characteristic that represents a self-similarity as an invariant based on the fractal dimension. This fractal geometry was applied to the crack growth of cementitious composites in order to correlate the fracture behavior to microstructures of cemposite composites. The purpose of this study was to find relationships between fractal dimensions and fracture energy. Fracture test was carried out in order to investigate the fracture behavior of plain and fiber reinforced cement composites. The load-CMOD curve and fracture energy of the beams were observed under the three point loading system. The crack profiles were obtained by the image processing system. Box counting method was used to determine the fractal dimension, D$_{f}$. It was known that the linear correlation exists between fractal dimension and fracture energy of the cement composites. The implications of the fractal nature for the crack growth behavior on the fracture energy, G$_{f}$ is appearent.ent.
