  • This study was conducted to identify factors affecting depression in junior nursing students(JNS). The number of the participants was 144 at a college in S and G city. The data were collected using questionnaires about somatic symptoms(SS), sleep quality, stress, adaptation to college life(AC), depression. Mean score of depression was 18.89, 58.3% are experiencing depression that requires clinical treatment. The significant predictors of JNS were levels of depression AC(β=-.503, p=.000) and SS(β=.263, p=.000) respectively, explaining 58.9% of variance. In order to control the depressive symptoms of JNS, it is necessary to diagnose basic learning ability from the beginning of admission and provide guidance management plans to help students adapt to academic activities by providing customized programs for each level to improve learning ability. It is necessary to develop and apply various intervention programs to alleviate physical symptoms such as fatigue/low energy experienced by JNS.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the preliminary effects of applying a developed web-based video education program in patients with cancer receiving chemotherapy. Methods: A one-group pre-post test design was used. The web-based video education program to prevent infection consisted of 5 subjects. The program was confirmed to be valid by an expert group of doctors and nurses. Convenience sampling of 23 subjects was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of the web-based video education program. Data were analyzed based on nonparametric statistics using SPSS 25.0 software. Results: Per the results of the study, knowledge and self-management behavior of infection prevention significantly improved after application of the program; however, there was no significant difference in self-efficacy. Conclusion: It was confirmed that the web-based video education program is effective to improve the knowledge and self-management behavior of infection prevention. However, as a preliminary study, this study did not have external validity. Therefore, it is necessary to verify the effectiveness of the program through randomized controlled trials and confirm the true infection prevention effect that was not considered in this research design.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of preoperative patient-controlled analgesia(PCA) education program on older patients with spine surgery. Methods: A quasi-experimental research with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was conducted to investigate the impact of a PCA education program before surgery on postoperative pain, pain knowledge and attitudes, and frequency of additional analgesic use. The sample size for experimental and control group was 55 respectively. Results: The experimental group, which underwent the PCA education program, had lower postoperative pain scores compared to the control group. Furthermore, the experimental group exhibited a higher level of knowledge on PCA (p<.001) and more positive attitudes toward analgesic use (p<.001). While there was a significant difference in the use of opioid analgesics for additional pain relief between two groups (p<.001), there was no significant difference in the use of non-opioid analgesics. Conclusion: The implementation of the PCA education program was found to increase knowledge and positive attitudes on the use of PCA. Moreover, it significantly alleviated pain, particularly during physical activity, within initial 48 hours after spinal surgey in older patients. Therefore, the findings of this study supported that the PCA education program could be used as a preoperative intervention to alleviate postoperative pain for older patients with spinal surgery.

  • Purpose: This descriptive study is aimed at understanding how clinical nurses' terminal care attitude and spiritual health affect their terminal care stress. Methods: Data were collected from self-reported questionnaire filled by 238 nurses at a general hospital in G Metropolitan City. Results: The study showed that nurses' attitudes toward terminal care, spiritual health, marital status, and clinical experience largely affect their terminal care stress. In particular, the higher they scored on terminal care attitudes, the lower they scored on terminal care stress. These variables accounted for 52.3% of the total variance. Conclusion: The study shows terminal care attitude is an important factor for terminal care stress perceived by clinical nurses. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an educational intervention program to improve nurses' terminal care attitudes and spiritual health, which in turn would lower their terminal care stress or help them effectively cope with it.

Linear regression analysis was carried out to assess the factors related to the improvement of their knowledge and attitude. The findings indicated that oral health knowledge and attitude of occupational health nurses were significantly improved by oral health education. A factor of the improvement of knowledge and attitude was concern for oral health. And they would like to be provided primarily oral health education for occupational health nurses. In addition, there were significant increases on quality of life (F=8.08, p=.002) and significant interaction effects (F=4.89, p=.016) in the intervention group over the three measurement points in time. Conclusion: This study revealed that a Self-management program can be used as an efficient nursing intervention for women with knee osteoarthritis.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of developing and applying taping therapy combined with heat and exercise therapy to reduce dysmenorrhea and menstrual discomfort and improve daily living ability of female college students. The study consisted of 46 female college students complaining of dysmenorrhea at K University in D city, 23 in the experimental and control groups. Questionnaires were collected and data were analyzed using SPSS statistics. The comparison of kinesi taping with heat and exercise therapy showed that taping therapy with heat and exercise therapy was more effective in reducing dysmenorrhea (t = -3.034, p = .004). The combined heat and exercise taping therapy developed in this study was found to be a more effective nursing intervention for relieving dysmenorrhea and improving daily life performance of female college students. This taping therapy is a simple method. It suggests a study to develop self-nursing education programs for girls in the community with menstrual pain and to verify the effectiveness by applying individualized education programs.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of a self-management program on patients with thyroid cancer, particularly during the time of waiting for surgery after cancer diagnosis. Psychological distress, biological responses of immune cell counts, and quality of life were the variables of this study. Methods: One group pre-post test design was used with the nature of a pilot study. Ten newly diagnosed thyroid cancer patients were recruited through physicians' referrals. After drop out of 4 participants, final data were collected from six participants. Small group technique, a one and half hour-session per week for one month (total 4 sessions, 6 hours) was used. Relaxation techniques, meditation training, and strategies to reduce distress were provided by researchers. Standardized questionnaires and an established bio-assay were used for collection of data. Results: Participants showed significant lowering of psychological distress (p<.05) and improvement in global quality of life (p<.05). Biological responses of immune cell counts did not show statistical significance. Conclusion: The self-management program may reduce psychological distress and improve quality of life of patients with thyroid cancer between the time of diagnosis and surgery. The self-management program would be a valuable approach for patients with an unexpected cancer diagnosis to prepare for their disease experience in a community setting.
