Stereoscopic Image Compression and Transmission Using Disparity Information and MPEG-2′s Scalability (시차정보와 MPEG-2의 스케일러빌리티를 이용한 입체영상 압축 및 전송)

  • 3D image coding and transmission technologies are essential for transmitting 3D image information through the limited transmission channel, and very important in the area of information and telecommunication services using 3D image media. In this paper, we propose the 3D image coding and transmission methods welch use disparity information and MPEG-2's scalability. Left and Fight image sequences are coded in base layer and enhancement layer, respectively. The enhancement layer contains the disparity and prediction informations. In order to reduce searching time for disparity information, we propose a method in which the disparity information of previous image paid is used in the next image pair, and we adopt the bit rate control method proposed in MPEG-2 TM6. An experimental result showed that the proposed searching method considerably reduced the entire encoding time and reached the desired bit rates.

  • However, in order to create a stereoscopic 3D image, independently, it is required to spend expensive manufacturing costs and to have special techniques. As 3D display devices have been generalized, there is an increasing need for implementing a stereoscopic 3D image without a burden of expensive costs. This paper proposes some methods to implement stereoscopic 3D images easily by utilizing a marker tracking technology using a single camera. In addition, the study made it possible for the resolution of an image to be adjustable dynamically. This paper will be committed to the promotion of the field of UCC (User Created Contents) using stereoscopic 3D images by attracting the active participation of general users in the field of the implementation of stereoscopic 3D images.

  • 본 논문에서는 입체영상 기법과 파노라마 영상 기술을 접목한 입체 파노라마 영상을 애너그리프 방식의 실린더 형태로 구현할 때, 애너그리프 합성 후 파노라마 스티칭 하는 방법과 파노라마 스티칭 후 애너그리프 합성하는 방식 두 가지로 각각 구현 해보고, 두 결과 영상의 Depth map 을 생성하여 입체감 형성 정도 및 왜곡 정도를 분석한다.

  • The development of image technologies in such area as broadcasting and movies has recently increased our attention to 3D stereoscopic images. In addition, the development of stereoscopic image representation technologies in 3D contents becomes more active over time due to the representational limitations of 2D images. Without limitation to the above-mentioned area, stereoscopic image technologies have been developed and studied so that they can be widely accessed in diverse areas including medical services and education. Due to the refined production, however, required to represent a three dimensional effects and the fatigue caused by the perception of a three dimensional effects, the stereoscopic image technologies are not combined into real time systems such as games where environments change unforeseeably. In this study we design a technique to adjust the depth scaling that will enable efficient management of a three dimensional effects and to relieve fatigue through automatic view point interval adjustment in accordance with situations based on the geometrical structure of the DirectX SDK graphic pipeline. Through this, we would like to suggest a new alternative idea to activate the production of games combined with stereoscopic image technologies.

DEM Extraction from KOMPSAT-1 EOC Stereo Images and Accuracy Assessment (KOMPSAT-1 EOC입체 영상을 이용한 DEM생성과 정확도 검증)

  • We carried out accuracy assessment for DEM extraction from the KOMPSAT-1 EOC stereo images over Daejeon and Nonsan in Korea. DEM generation divided into two parts. One is camera modeling and the other stereo matching. We used Orun & Natarajan's(1994) model and Gupta & Hartley's(1997) model in the camera modeling step and checked the possibility using Orun & Natarajan and Gupta & Hartley's models in EOC stereo pairs. For stereo matching, we used an algorithms developed in-house for SPOT images and showed that this algorithm could work with EOC images. Using these algorithms, DEMs were successfully generated from EOC images. The comparison of DEM from EOC Images with a DEM from SPOT Images showed that EOC could be used for high-accuracy DEM generation.

  • 3D 입체영상은 영화관에서 시작되어 최근에는 방송, 게임, 테마파크에 이르기 까지 널리 확산되고 있다. 하지만 3D 입체영상에 대한 응용기술의 발전은 입체영상에 쉽게 접근하게 하였음에도 불구하고 3D 입체영상을 시청하는 사용자에 대한 근본적인 연구가 미흡한 실정이다. 이러한 문제로 인하여 3D 입체영상을 접한 대부분의 시청자들이 안구통증, 어지러움 증을 호소하지만 이에 대한 근본적인 대책을 제시하지 못하는 것이 현실이다. 따라서 이러한 입체피로를 해결하기 위한 3D Sweetenig을 다양한 연구방법으로 진행되고 있고, 그 중 4D 체감형 콘텐츠에 대한 감성연구실험 절차를 소개하고자 한다.

  • Interest in and study on 3 dimensional pictures has been continued since visual media showing moving images was invented. From simple anaglyph wearing glasses to hologram making perfect 3 dimensional objects by recording phase data of reflected light, as well as amplitude and wave, speed and scope of technical development are quicker and wider, respectively. However, despite such development of technology, there is still lack of study on aesthetical, industrial and contents developing area, except for technology of 3 dimensional images. Unlike the interest in 3 dimensional images, even a theoretical frame for the approach to theoretical areas of 3 dimensional images has not been established. Especially, few experiment and study on directing aesthetics have been conducted, with exception of areas in entertainment documentaries for 3 dimensional feeling or some latest 3D animations. As a result, this study will try to find alternatives to directing aesthetics of realistic 3 dimensional movies to be developed in future by studying directing grammar and aesthetics of digital 3 dimensional movies and finding and analyzing difference between 3 dimensional images and 2 dimensional images drawn on the plane.

Transformation of Stereoscopic Images for 3D Perception Improvement (입체영상의 3D 증강을 위한 입체영상 변환)

  • Recently, 3DTV and 3D displays have been released in the market. Accordingly, the production of stereoscopic images has gained much interest. Stereoscopic image being composed of left and right images are currently delivered to viewers without any modifications. The researches on the enhancement of depth perception using high-frequency components and the re-production of natural color by color compensation have been carried out for 2D images. The application of such 2D technologies to 3D stereoscopic images is an aim of this paper. This paper proposes the enhancement of 3D perception by color transformation. For this, we propose a stereo matching method for obtaining a depth map and two color transformation methods such as contrast transformation and background darkening. The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified through experiments.

  • In this paper, we propose the method for creating a stable stereoscopic 3D contents with the production guidelines by removing the excessive depth value and scene changes for high quality. We have developed a three-dimensional depth analysis tool for detecting the scene changes out of the production guidelines and the depth value changes excessively. The Scenes detected by depth analysis tool can be modified at the post production and it helps to make a stable stereoscopic 3D contents.
