  • Flash memory based SSDs are currently being considered as a promising candidate for replacing hard disks due to several superior features such as shorter access time, lower power consumption and better shock resistance. However, SSDs have different characteristics from hard disk such as difference of unit and time for read, write and erase operation and impossibility for over-writing. Because of these reasons, SSDs have disadvantages on hard disk based systems, so FTL(Flash Translation Layer) is designed to increase SSDs' efficiency. In this paper, we propose an advanced logical address mapping method for increasing SSDs' performance, which is named HAMM(Hybrid Address Mapping Method). HAMM addresses drawbacks of previous block-mapping method and super-block-mapping method and takes advantages of them. We experimented our method on our own SSDs simulator. In the experiments, we confirmed that HAMM uses storage area more efficiently than super-block-mapping method, given the same buffer size. In addition, HAMM used smaller memory than block-mapping method to construct mapping table, demonstrating almost same performance.

  • The amount of data located in storage servers has dramatically increased with the growth in cloud and social networking services. Storage systems with very large capacities may suffer from poor reliability and long latency, problems which can be addressed by the use of a hybrid disk, in which mechanical and flash memory storage are combined. The Linux-based SSD(solid-state disk) uses a caching technique based on the DM-cache utility. We assess the limitations of DM-cache by evaluating its performance in diverse environments, and identify problems with the caching policy that it operates in response to various commands. This policy is effective in reducing latency when Linux is running in native mode; but when Linux is installed as a guest operating systems on a virtual machine, the overhead incurred by caching actually reduces performance.

  • Conventional file systems for harddisk drive cannot be applied to NAND flash memory, because the physical characteristics of NAND flash memory differs from those of harddisk drive. To address this problem, various file systems with better reliability and efficiency have also been developed recently. However, those file systems have inherent overheads for updating the file's metadata pages, because those file systems save file's meta-data and data separately. Furthermore, those file systems have a critical reliability problem: file systems fail when either a page in meta-data of a file system or a file itself fails. In this paper, we propose a self-description page technique and In Memory Core File System technique to address these efficiency and reliability problems, and develop SDFS(Self-Description File System) newly. SDFS can be safely recovered, although some pages fail, and improves write and read performance by 36% and 15%, respectively, and reduces mounting time by 1/20 compared with YAFFS2.

  • In a typical web environment, it is difficult to determine the update and re-computation status of WebView content or the transition of WebView processing included in web page. If an update to one of data is performed before a read operation to that, we could get a wrong result due to the incorrect operation and increase a complexity of the problem to process. To solve this problem, lots of researchers have studied and most of these problems at the single user environment is not problems. However, the problems at a distributed environment might be occurred. For this reason, in this paper, we proposed the extended state transition graph and algorithms for each status of WebView for explaining WebView state in the distributed environment and analyze the performance of using the materialized WebView and not. Additionally, also analyze the timing issues in network and effectiveness which follows in size of WebView contents.

A Tombstone Filtered LSM-Tree for Stable Performance of KVS (키밸류 저장소 성능 제어를 위한 삭제 키 분리 LSM-Tree)

  • With the spread of web services, data types are becoming more diversified. In addition to the form of storing data such as images, videos, and texts, the number and form of properties and metadata expressing the data are different for each data. In order to efficiently process such unstructured data, a key-value store is widely used for state-of-the-art applications. LSM-Tree (Log Structured Merge Tree) is the core data structure of various commercial key-value stores. LSM-Tree is optimized to provide high performance for small writes by recording all write and delete operations in a log manner. However, there is a problem in that the delay time and processing speed of user requests are lowered as batches of deletion operations for expired data are inserted into the LSM-Tree as special key-value data. This paper presents a Filtered LSM-Tree (FLSM-Tree) that solves the above problem by separating the deleted key from the main tree structure while maintaining all the advantages of the existing LSM-Tree. The proposed method is implemented in LevelDB, a commercial key-value store and it shows that the read performance is improved by up to 47% in performance evaluation.

Development of a Discussion-Centered Teaching and Learning Model (토의 중심 교수학습 모형 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a discussion-centered teaching and learning model for nurturing creative and convergence talents. Regarding the research method, a draft model on discussion-centered teaching and learning was devised, and the model was completed through expert validation. The final draft was revised and supplemented by verifying how valid the model was when applied in class by using the derived final draft. Compared with the draft on discussion-centered teaching and learning model, the final model focused on text-reading emphasis, methods of questioning, and question generation strategies, excluding jigsaw discussions. The discussion-centered teaching and learning model developed in this study is expected to help instructors foster creative and convergence talents. Three suggestions have been provided to effectively apply this model to the field. First, an attitude of listening and respect is required during a discussion. Second, a plan should be considered on how to induce active participation of learners participating in the discussion. Third, the importance of managing discussion time was emphasized.

The perceptual span during reading Korean sentences (우리글 읽기에서 지각 폭 연구)

  • The present study investigated the perceptual span during reading Korean, using the moving-window display change technique introduced by McConkie and Rayner(1975). Eight different window sizes were used in Experiment 1. They were 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 characters in size and the full line. Reading rate, number of fixation, saccadic distance, fixation duration were compared between each window-size condition and the full line condition. The reading rate was no higher in the full line condition than in the 15 character condition but was higher than in the other conditions. The number of fixations was no larger in the full line condition than in the 15 character condition, had a tendency to be larger than in the 13 characters condition, and was more than in the other conditions. The result pattern of the saccadic distance based on character was the same as that of the reading rate, and the saccadic distance based on the pixel was the same as that of the number of fixation. Similarly, for fixation duration, there was no differences between whole line condition and 15, 13, and 11 characters condition. The fixation duration had a tendency to be shorter in the 9 characters, and was shorter in the 7, 5, and 3 characters conditions than whole line condition. In Experiment 2, based on asymmetry of perceptual span, the 6 different window sizes(0, 1, 2, 3, 4 characters in size and the full line) were used. There was a difference only between the 0 condition and the other conditions in the reading rate, number of fixations, fixation duration. Considering the pattern of eye-movement measures above, the perceptual span of Korean readers extends about 6-7 characters to the right of fixation and 1 character to the left of fixation.

CFI Approach to Defend against GOT Overwrite Attacks (CFI(Control Flow Integrity) 적용을 통한 GOT(Global Offset Table) 변조 공격 방지 방안 연구)

  • In the Unix-like system environment, the GOT overwrite attack is one of the traditional control flow hijacking techniques for exploiting software privileges. Several techniques have been proposed to defend against the GOT overwrite attack, and among them, the Full Relro(Relocation Read only) technique, which blocks GOT overwrites at runtime by arranging the GOT section as read-only in the program startup, has been known as the most effective defense technique. However, it entails loading delay, which limits its application to a program sensitive to startup performance, and it is not currently applied to the library due to problems including a chain loading delay problem caused by nested library dependency. Also, many compilers, including LLVM, do not apply the Full Relro technique by default, so runtime programs are still vulnerable to GOT attacks. In this paper, we propose a GOT protection scheme using the Control Flow Integrity(CFI) technique, which is currently recognized as the most suitable technique for defense against code reuse attacks. We implemented this scheme based on LLVM and applied it to the binutils-gdb program group to evaluate security, performance and compatibility. The GOT protection scheme with CFI is difficult to bypass, fast, and compatible with existing library programs.

Processing of the Syntactic Ambiguity Resolution in English as a Foreign Language (외국어로서의 영어 구문 중의성 해결 과정)

  • 글을 이해하기 위해서는 어휘와 어휘간의 연결 및 전체 구조를 아는 것이 필요하다. 이는 비단 한국어뿐만 아니라 영어나 기타 다른 외국어에서도 마찬가지일 것이다. 본고는 두 가지를 고찰하기 위해 진행되었는데 우선 외국어로서 영어를 처리하는데 발생하는 구문적 중의성을 해결하는데 Garden Path Sentence(GPS), Late Closure(LC), PP의 세 문형에 따라 어떻게 해결하는지 알아보기 위한 것이다. 그리고 각 문형의 중의적 어절에서의 반응과 애매성 해소 어절에서의 반응에 따라 sysntactic module이 작용하는 것인지 알아보고자 한다. 예를 들어 "The boat floated down the streams sank"란 Garden Path 문장이 제시된 경우에 독자는 "sank"란 어휘가 제시되기 전까지 "floated"를 동사로 생각하게 되나 다음에 본동사인 "sank"가 제시될 경우 문장의 해석에 혼란을 갖게 될 것이다. 예문에서 "floated"가 문장에서 어떤 역할을 하는지 결정하는 것은 "sank"를 보고서야 가능하다. 이런 구문적 중의성을 해결하는 방식을 알아보기 위해 어절 단위로 제시된 자극을 읽는 자기 조절 읽기 과제(self-paced reading task)를 사용하였다. 각 어절을 읽는데 걸리는 시간을 측정한 실험 결과 GPS, PP, LC 모두 중의성을 지닌 영역이 중의성을 해소한 후와 각각 유형적으로 큰 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 다만 GPS, CGPS, PP와 CPP는 어절 후반으로 갈수록 반응시간이 짧아졌다. 이는 우리나라 사람의 경우 외국어인 영어의 구문 중의성 해소는 구문 분석 단원(syntactic module)에 의한 자동적 처리라기보다 의미를 고려해 가면서 문법지식을 이용해 추론을 통한 구문 분석이라 할 수 있다.에 의한 자동적 처리라기보다 의미를 고려해 가면서 문법지식을 이용해 추론을 통한 구문 분석이라 할 수 있다.많았다(P<0.05).조군인 Group 1에서보다 높은 수준으로 발현되었다. 하지만 $12.5{\;}\mu\textrm{g}/ml$의 T. denticola sonicated 추출물로 전처리한 Group 3에서는 IL-2와 IL-4의 수준이 유의성있게 억제되어 발현되었다 (p < 0.05). 이러한 결과를 통하여 T. denticola에서 추출된 면역억제 단백질이 Th1과 Th2의 cytokine 분비 기능을 억제하는 것으로 확인 되었으며 이 기전이 감염 근관에서 발견되는 T. denticola의 치수 및 치근단 질환에 대한 병인기전과 관련이 있는 것으로 사료된다.을 보였다. 본 실험 결과, $Depulpin^{\circledR}은{\;}Tempcanal^{\circledR}와{\;}Vitapex^{\circledR}$에 비해 높은 세포 독성을 보여주공 있으나, 좀 더 많은 임상적 검증이 필요할 것으로 사료된다.중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 추론할 수 있다.근관벽을 처리하는 것이 필요하다고 사료된다.크기에 의존하며, 또한 이러한 영향은 $(Ti_{1-x}AI_{x})N$ 피막에 존재하는 AI의 함량이 높고, 초기에 증착된 막의 업자 크기가 작을 수록 클 것으로 여겨진다. 그리고 환경의 의미의 차이에 따라 경관의 미학적 평가가 달라진 것으로 나타났다.corner$적 의도에 의한 경관구성의 일면을 확인할수 있지만 엄밀히 생각하여 보면 이러한 예의 경우도 최락의 총체적인 외형은 마찬가지로 $\ulcorner$순응$\lrcorner$의 범위를 벗어나지 않는다. 그렇기 때문에도 $\ulcorner$순응$\lrcorner$$\ulcorner$표현$\lrcorner$의 성격과 형태를 외형상으로 더욱이 공간상에서는 뚜렷하게 경계

A Study on the Development of Science Textbooks for the Implementation of Flipped Learning (거꾸로 수업을 지원할 수 있는 과학교과서 모형 개발 연구)

  • Flipped learning is generally designed to allow students to learn on their own in advance with the help of scaffolding material such as videos and text, and in the classroom, it is operated with the help of a teacher while the class is being learner-centered. For flipped learning, each of the teachers has to design the class, collect information, and prepare for scaffolding material, so they get to face a lot of difficulties spending much time to reorganize the curriculum and produce a video and so on. Accordingly, this researcher has developed flipped learning textbook models applicable to science class by analyzing Korean and overseas textbooks, conducting an in-depth interview to six science teachers practicing flipped learning, and also developing and applying the science textbook sample model. The elementary, middle, and high school science textbook models developed include not only the textbook-based model with no videos presented in advance but also the lecture-type model, experiment-based model, and inquiry and research-based model to realize flipped learning. This study is expected to present crucial implications to develop textbooks and science class as a class to perform learner-centered inquiry activity.
