The participants provided data via daily logs about information needs, written surveys about media use, and two times of in-depth interviews. The data gathered from these diverse methods were used in analyzing the participants' daily problem situations and attempts to satisfy information needs using media. The information needs of young adults with immigration background in their everyday lives included study, leisure, appearance, self-development, living, and career searching - study and leisure were the most needed information subjects. The young adults who participated in this study were actively using media to solve their information needs. For them, media was an emotional support, a tool to express their own identities, a solution that gives all the answers, and a good companion to spend time with. The proposed strategies about young adults' media use in this study could be used in planning library services for children of families with immigration background.

  • Transportation policy to facilitate the public mode use is of the foremost importance to the local governments of Metropolitan Seoul, regarding the economic and environmental consequences of the increasing use of car. Understanding the travel behaviour is essential to the establishment of proper policy to guide more people to the use of public modes instead of private. The paper reports a result of sequential analysis of individual travel behaviour in Metropolitan Seoul, using a multi-dimensional motif search technique applied to Smart Card data that integrates individuals' different public mode uses. Groups of travel patterns with similar sequential information identified distinctive travel behaviour between Seoul north and south and between metro and bus uses. Travel patterns are more bounded within north Seoul and south Seoul respectively than crossing Han River between north and south. Within north and south, travel patterns visiting northern CBD and southern CBD, respectively, as well as their local neighbour in north and south, often use metro and metro-local bus combination, while travel patterns visiting only the north and south locals without CBDs more use only the local bus line and even only the areal bus line.

It was primarily used to search for university life information, such as academic calendar, class, and graduation, and health, restaurants, and housing. In the case of the freshmen and sophomores who entered during the COVID-19 pandemic, their dependence on Everytime was high, and juniors and seniors who experienced university life before COVID-19 also responded that Everytime is one of the essential sources of information in university life. Although Everytime provides quick and valuable information, users mentioned the moral hazard as a major factor hindering the active use of Everytime. The results of this study are expected to be used as primary data for informatics research on the online community of college students and the development and operation of online communities for university students.

  • Multimedia needs and searching have become important in everyday life, especially in a younger generation. The characteristics of multimedia needs and searching behaviors are distinctive compared to textual information needs and searching behaviors in a wide variety of ways. By interviewing and observing multimedia needs and searching behaviors of college students from 20 areas in Seoul, this study aims to improve the understanding on users' multimedia needs and how users search multimedia. The findings are presented in terms of searching sources, multimedia needs, relevance criteria and searching barriers. For multimedia, the searching sources are found primarily as Naver and Google and the distinguished features are presented depending on the individual multimedia types. As multimedia needs are categorized into generic, specific and abstract, most of the needs are classified as specific needs rather than generic needs, but there exist differences depending on the types of multimedia. In addition, the aspects of relevance criteria and searching barriers are reflected with the characteristics of individual multimedia types. The findings of this study demonstrate that distinctive indexing and searching environments depending on the types of multimedia might be necessary to improve the quality of multimedia searching.
