  • Purpose: This study tested the effects of Nei-Guan acupressure on nausea, vomiting, and anorexia of lung cancer patients on chemotherapy. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre-post test design was used to identify the effect of Nei-Guan acupressure on nausea, vomiting, and anorexia of lung cancer patients on chemotherapy. The participants were 60 patients who were admitted to a hospital for chemotherapy from February 1 to October 28, 2009. The patients were randomly assigned to the control group (n=30) or experimental group (n=30). The data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney test. Results: Nausea, vomiting, and anorexia were significantly decreased in the experiment group compared to the control group on the day of discharge from the hospital. However, the levels of nausea, vomiting, and anorexia between two groups were not statistically significant seven days after the discharge. Conclusions: Nei-Guan acupressure is effective in decreasing nausea, vomiting and anorexia of the patients with lung cancer on chemotherapy on the on the day of the discharge while the effectiveness is not certain 7 days after the discharge. Further study is needed to confirm these findings.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to estimate the effects of a video low intensity exercise program provided during hemodialysis on fatigue, activity of daily living, positive psychological capital and blood pressure of patients being treated. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pre-post test design was used. Participants were 85 hemodialysis patients assigned to either the experimental group (n=41) or the control group (n=44). The experimental group exercised for about 25 minutes 3 times a week for 8 weeks. Data analyses involved descriptive statistics, $x^2$ test, t-test, multiple regression and repeated measure ANOVA using SPSS/WIN 23.0. Results: The exercise intervention significantly reduced post hemodialysis fatigue and significantly increased positive psychological capital. There was a significant interaction effect on time by group in blood pressure. Systolic blood pressure changes in the experimental group were stable but, changes in the control group tended to increase gradually. Conclusion: To reduce fatigue and increase positive psychological capital for hemodialysis patients, providing exercise during hemodialysis is recommended. Furthermore individualized exercise in terms of intensity, time, duration, etc should be developed and tested. Also, to reduce drastic blood pressure changes during hemodialysis, exercise should be provided.

  • Ulnar tunnel syndrome by anomalous muscles has not been reported in Korea because it is asymptomatic in most cases. The most common anomalous muscles are the accessory abductor digiti minimi and palmaris longus. This is a case report of a patient with ulnar tunnel syndrome at the wrist by the accessory abductor digiti minimi muscle. For patients with ulnar tunnel syndrome, it is important to consider that anomalous muscles can cause ulnar tunnel syndrome.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of nurse managers' conflict management styles on nurses' levels of leader trust and organizational commitment. Methods: For this study, a descriptive survey design was used. The participants were 165 nurses who had worked more than 1 year in a university hospital. Data were collected from September 1 to September 10, 2016, using a self-report questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Scheffe's tests, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Among the nurse managers' conflict management styles, the problem-solving style was positively correlated with both leader trust and organizational commitment. Concession-avoiding and control-leading styles were negatively correlated with both variables. Furthermore, the problem-solving style was found to have significant influence on both leader trust and organizational commitment. Conclusion: In order to more actively cope with conflict situations occurring in the nursing work environment, nursing managers need to exhibit more effective attitudes of conflict management. This study suggests that the problem-solving style is a desirable conflict management style in terms of increasing leader trust and organizational commitment.
