We reviewed our 18-year surgical experience of biventricular repair for double-outlet right ventricle. Material and Method: One hundred twelve consecutive patients (80 males and 32 females) who underwent biventricular repair for double-outlet right ventricle between May 1986 and September 2002 were included. We assessed risk factors for early mortality and reoperation. Reoperation-free survival rate and actual survival rate were analysed. Result: Most common type of ventricular septal defect was subaortic (n=58, 52%) and non-committed type was second most common (n=32, 29%). Four different surgical methods were used: intraventricular baffle repair (n=71 , 63%): right ventricle to pulmonary ariery conduit interposition or REV with left ventricle to aorta baffle repair (n=24, 21 .4%): arierial switch operation with left ventricle to pulmonary artery baffle (n=14, 12.5%): Senning atrial switch operation with left ventricle to pulmonary artery baffle (n=3, 2.7%). Thirty four patients(30%) underwent palliative procedures before definite repair. Twenty three patients (21%) required reoperations. There were 12 (10.7%) early deaths and 4 late deaths. Age younger than 3 months at repair (p=0.003), cardiopulmonary bypass and aortic cross clamp time (p=0.015, p=0.067), type of operation (arterial switch operation) (p <0.001) and type of ventricular septal defect (subpulmonic type) (p=0.002) were revealed as risk factors for early death in univariate analysis, while age under 3 months was the only significant risk factor in multivariate analysis. Patients younger than 1 year of age (p=0.02), pulmonary artery angioplasty at definitive repair (p=0.024), type of ventricular septal defect (non-committed) (p=0.001), type of operation (right ventricle to pulmonary artery conduit interposition and REV operation) (p=0.028, p=0.017) were risk factors for reoperation in univariate analysis but there was no significant risk factor in multivariate analysis. Follow-up was available on 91 survivals with a mean duration of 110.8$\pm$56.4 (2~201) months. 5, 10 and 15 year survival rates were 86.5%, 85% and 85% and reoperation free survival were 85%, 71.5%, 70%. Conclusion: Age under 3 months at repair, subpulmonic ventricular septal defect and arterial switch operation were significant risk factors for early mortality. Patients with non-committed ventricular septal defect and who underwent conduit interposition or REV operation were risk factors for reoperation. With careful attention to chose best timing and surgical approach depending on morphologic characteristics, biventricular repair for double outlet right ventricle can be achieved with good long-term outcome.
Li-AGICs as a anode of secondary battery were synthesized by high-pressure method as a function of the Li-contents. The characteristics of these prepared compounds were determined from the studies with X-ray diffraction method, UV/VIS spectrophotometric and differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) analysis. From the results of X-ray diffraction, it was found that the lower stage intercalation compounds were formed with increase of Li-contents. The mixed stages in these compounds were also observed. In the case of the $Li_{30wt%}$-AGIC, the compounds in the stage 1 structure were formed predominantly, but the structure of only pure stage 1 for structural defect of artificial graphite is not observed. According to UV/VIS spectrophotometric analysis, $Li_{30wt%}$-AGIC shows distinguishable energy state spectrum with the position of $R(%)_{min}$ values, but the characteristic spectra of almost all Li-AGICs are not observed. The enthalpy and entropy changes of the compounds can be obtained from the differential scanning calorimetric analysis results. From the results, it was found that exothermic and endothermic reactions of Li-AGICs are related to thermal stability of lithium between artificial graphite layers.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of healing abutment height and measurement angle on implant stability when using Periotest and AnyCheck. Materials and methods: 60 implants were placed into artificial bone blocks. After implant insertion, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mm healing abutments were installed on 15 specimens, respectively. Insertion torque value, implant stability test, Periotest value were measured. Insertion torque value was controlled between 45 - 55 Ncm. AnyCheck was used for measuring implant stability test and Periotest M was used for measuring Periotest value. Implant stability test and Periotest value were measured at the angles of 0 and 30 degrees to the horizontal plane. Measured values were analyzed statistically. Results: Insertion torque value had no significant difference among groups. When healing abutment height was higher, implant stability test and Periotest value showed lower stability. Also when measurement angle was decreased, implant stability test and Periotest value showed lower stability. Conclusion: When measuring stability of implants with percussion type devices, measured values should be evaluated considering height of healing abutments and measurement angle.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to assess the clinical outcomes and radiological changes of arthroscopic augmentation with synthetic polyester ligament for posterior cruciate ligament injury Materials and Methods : The assessment was made among 60 patients who underwent arthroscopic augmentation with synthetic polyester ligament (ABC ligament, Surgicraft, U.K.) into the substance of ruptured PCL proper under the arthroscopic control from January, 1990 to January, 1996 and whose follow-up period was more than 5 years (average 7.8 years). The results were analyzed by using the posterior stress radiographs by Telos stress device, KT-2000 arthrometer and the clinical assessment by using Lysholm knee score. Results : The average difference of posterior displacement on stress radiographs were 13.2 mm preperatively and 3.6 mm at last follow up. Both knee showed minimal difference on KT-2000 arthrometer (0.7 mm on 20 lb) at the last follow-up. The mean Lysholm knee score was 49.2 preoperatively and improved to 84.3 post-operatively. Conclusion : Authors observed that long-term results of arthroscopic augmentation with synthetic polyester ligament for PCL injury were similar with those using human allograft. Taking these results into consideration, the synthetic polyester ligament is assumed to be a method of treatment of the PCL injury.
In this study, the electrochemical performance of Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composites as anode material was investigated to improve the low theoretical capacity of artificial graphite. Spherical artificial graphite surface was coated with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) amphiphiles material to synthesize Graphite/Silica material by silica islands growth. The Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composites were prepared by petroleum pitch coating and magnesiothermic reduction. The Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composite electrodes manufactured using poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and polyacrylic acid (PAA) binders. The coin type half cell was assembled using various electrolytes and additives. The Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composites were analysed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). The electrochemical characteristics of Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composite were investigated by constant current charge/discharge, rate performance, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The Graphite/Silicon/Pitch composites showed high cycle stability at a graphite/silica/pitch ratio (1:4:8 wt%). When the electrode is prepared using PAA binder, the high capacity and stability is obtained. The coin type half cell assembled using EC: DMC: EMC electrolyte showed high initial capacity (719 mAh/g) and excellent cycle stability. The rate performance has an capacity retention (77%) at 2 C/0.1 C and an capacity recovery (88%) at 0.1 C / 0.1 C when the vinylene carbonate (VC) was added.

Ridge orientations of fingerprint image are crucial informations in many parts of fingerprint recognition such as enhancement, matching and classification. Therefore it is essential to extract the ridge orientations of image accurately because it directly affects the performance of the system. The two main properties of ridge orientation are 1) global characteristic(gradual change in whole part of fingerprint) and 2) local characteristic(abrupt change around core and delta points). When we only consider the local characteristic, estimated ridge orientations are well around singular points but not robust to noise. When the global characteristic is only considered, to estimate ridge orientation is robust to noise but cannot represent the orientation around singular points. In this paper, we propose a novel method for estimating ridge orientation which represents local characteristic specifically as well as be robust to noise. We reduce the noise caused by scar using iterative outlier rejection. We apply adaptive measurement resolution in each fingerprint area to estimate the ridge orientation around singular points accurately. We evaluate the performance of proposed method using synthetic fingerprint and FVC 2002 DB. We compare the accuracy of ridge orientation. The performance of fingerprint authentication system is evaluated using FVC 2002 DB.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to make a report on the clinical prognosis of post traumatic lateral and posterolateral instability of the knee after LCL augmentation and popliteal tenodesis. Materials and Methods: The assessment was made among 21 cases who underwent augmentation of lateral collateral ligament(LCL) and popliteal tenodesis with allograft or artificial ligament (synthetic polyester, ABC ligament, Surgicraft, U.K.) at this Medical Center during the period from July 1996 to July 2003 and whose follow-up period was longer than one year. The authors recorded and analysed the physical findings (external rotation recurvatum test & posterolateral drawer test), stress roentgenograms(preoperative and postoperative) and Lysholm score. Results: The lateral and posterolateral instability of the knee were improved in 20 cases postoperatively, acccording to the clinical test and stress roentgenograms . Average Lysholm score was 52.5 preoperatively and 86.7 postoperatively .Conclusion: Our study found the surgery of lateral and posterolateral instability of the knee with augmentation of LCL and popliteal tenodesis using allograft or artiflcial ligament is simple technique. Taking these results into consideration, it seems to be one of effective methods of treatment.
This study focused on the constructional concepts, landscape design techniques and changes made of the Sandan(山壇) area in the rear garden of Changdeokgung Palace based on the spatial organization of the zone. The results of this study are as below. Constructional layers that have been maintained throughout the centuries from King Injo(仁祖), King Sukjong(肅宗), King Sunjo(純祖), the Japanese colonial period to the present, were found in the Sandan area. The Sandan area, which was developed with the establishment of Chuiseungjeong(取勝亭) during the ruling of King Injo(仁祖), was created as a resting place for the King, and its usage continued until King Sukjong(肅宗) built Nakminjeong(樂民亭). However, the whole area was reorganized to host ritual ceremonies, where ancestral rites were performed for the mountain gods, after Sandan and Baekunsa(白雲社) were built during King Gojong's reign, before the drawing of 'Painting of Eastern Palaces(東闕圖).' The architectural component used then appears to have been designed to serve ancestral ritual formalities for the god of land, or to satisfy the religious desires of the royal family not fulfilled by Confucian courtesy. These are characteristics that define the Sandan area. Meanwhile, the analysis of the ground plan of the Changdeokgung Palace revealed that the Sandan had been maintained until the Japanese colonial era, but was removed sometime after liberation. The area underwent extensive reform in the early 1970s, when the whole area was developed into a tourist destination called Bingcheon(氷泉). Then, a new road that runs through Bingcheon was laid, and the present condition reflects the construction result of the time. An interview with a person who had taken part in the repair work in the 1970s confirmed that the construction work at the time had the goal of establishing two drainage systems for drinking water and copied the Okryuchon(玉流川) well.

The purpose of this study is to interpret the landscape characteristics of Changdeokgung's rear garden with the idea of Yijing(意境) the way to have a sense of an imaginative object. A term of Jing(境) in Yi-jing means a boundary of man's consciousness. On the boundary of consciousness for an imaginative object, there is a situation of man's emotion to be called Qingjing(情境) to meet an object, and beyond Qingjing, there is Yijing, a consciousness of the idea and the truth. The Structure of the Yijing is an analytical framework in this study. It is clarified that the idea of Yijing and landscape characteristics of changdeokgung's rear garden to analyze works of kings and related historical documents. In result, there were three kings named Injo, Sukjeong and Jeongjo who played big roles to develop the rear garden. First, Injo had built physical structure of the rear garden, the second Sukjong enjoyed Qingjing with composing the poems of Sangrimshipkyoung(上林十景), Jeongjo clearly had made a boundary of idea of Yijing broaden. It is an effective way to interpret imaginative characteristics of our traditional landscape through the concept of Yijing the useful way to understand and systemize a subject of idealistic consciousness.
In this paper, I tried to analyze the image of bamboo from Chang Hyun-kwang's poetry. Especially I focused on defining the symbolic meaning of bamboo as a poetic material. To achieve this, I inspected his view of world and politic life. He considered his contemporary period as 'ethically corrupted' world. During his life time, he served for three kings and also suffered from the fires of war four times. That means, he had to undergo the political unrest and national crisis during his life time. Due to the chaotic state of affairs, all the people were busy pursuing their own interests. It made Chang had no choice but retiring from active life. While Chang revealed his attitude to life through writing poetry, he used the image of bamboo as a completion of one's mature character. And the image of bamboo what he used was somewhat different from general one. Chang used the image of bamboo in two ways. The one is seeking live in retirement, and the other is chasing completion of his own mature character in academic way.
